A comedian obviously wouldn't be removed from the stage for making a similar joke. oh ok, what you have to do here is just flick that switch in your head that turns you from super serious mode in to funny ha ha mode, if stephano had only given you a 15 minute warning and charged you $10 for a ticket. youd be rolling on the floor holding your sides. Go tell a rape joke about a minor to 100 customers/staff at your work. I'd love to hear how its goes for you. That's not even close to being the same situation. He thought it was a PM between him and bling. It's not like he intended to broadcast it to everyone in the community. Even if you find his humor in poor taste he still has a right to joke about things he himself finds funny between him and a friend.
So if I tell a joke to my friend in an office while he happens project it over the loud speaker to everyone in the store I somehow have immunity? I don't think my employer would give a damn about my misfortune and would gladly throw me under the bus to take the heat off his business.
I think its actually a funny situation, mostly because of BlinG's face which accompanies the text. I've got nothing against utterly fowl jokes, bad words etcetc. HOWEVER were I to say something inappropriate at work or have my carelessness in what I thought was private conversation come back to haunt me, then I fully understand that I'm going to be in the shit for it.

Lol. What ridiculousness...
On October 13 2012 09:14 Mblak wrote: 14 used to be age of consent in Canada
The age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years. It was raised from 14 years on May 1, 2008 by the Tackling Violent Crime Act.
However, the age of consent is 18 years where the sexual activity "exploits" the young person -- when it involves prostitution, pornography or occurs in a relationship of authority, trust or dependency (e.g., with a teacher, coach or babysitter). Sexual activity can also be considered exploitative based on the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the young person's age, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed (quickly, secretly, or over the Internet) and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person.
People are so quick to forget lol

EG making a bigger deal out of this than needed, and losing money from potential tournament wins Stephano could have had. Dumbasses.

Hey want to clarify what I meant. I interpreted what he wrote as he got arrested for something related to rape. That this was more than a joke but actually circumstantial evidence in a more serious accusation of pedophilia.
So to clarify, he has not been accused nor investigated for any rape. As far as we know, this was a joking statement not some mistaken confession.

He made a joke which was obviously bad taste. Yeah bad taste can be funny, it's still bad taste. He also did it in a public place, which forced EG to respond because that's how people like their SC2 these days..
This pretty much sums up everything.
It doesn't matter if it was supposed to be private. It isn't right now, is it? It doesn't matter if it was supposed to be a joke. It is in bad taste. It doesn't matter if it is "normal" for people to joke like that. It doesn't change the fact you really shouldn't.
EG's only option was to respond this way. It would be incredibly stupid of them not to.

I don't know young kids these days, but I never considered PM in SC2 private. You say something on the internet, then it is public for christ's sake. It is on record, especially if you know the other guy streams from time to time. I might joke about the same thing, but never on the internet, only face to face among friends. Never joke about inappropriate stuffs on the internet among friends or not. Destiny, Stephano etc...why these youngsters make this mistake....internet is never private, man. At least, that's how I look at it.

This is the problem I have with mixing the community scene with the professional scene. Everyone goes crazy about controlling stuff, and its not their fault they have to. But lots of people joke about stuff worse than this and they aren't punished. I feel that by having the scenes so entangled it takes a lot of the freedom the players have away.

I assume Stephano's trolling, but I'm also quite glad that he was immediately punished for such a stupid thing. A comedian obviously wouldn't be removed from the stage for making a similar joke. Honestly I don't get the difference. You say you "assume he was trolling" but you go into a comedy show assuming the same thing right? You wouldn't be laughing if you seriously thought the comedian on stage had actually done some of the things he was joking about, so why would you be upset with Stephano for making a joke and not someone else? Is it just the setting that you didn't like? Also he never used the word "rape" so I wish people would stop saying that.
Sorry, you're right that he technically said he abused a 14 year old girl and that he's interested in kids. Of course, anyone can put 2 and 2 together and figure out that that kind of abuse would be sexual (rather than hitting her or something), but he did not use the word rape. But he clearly implied it. I think people are justified in using the word rape to describe the situation though.
And again, it comes down to his profession, the context of the situation, and how he behaves in general. He's not a comedian, and the environment appeared to be private (as far as Stephano knew/ said he knew: "fuck just noticed you were streaming"). It's often times very hard to tell whether or not someone is being sarcastic over the internet without some sort of cue (like a winking face), and so I'm going to assume Stephano's trolling, but the joke is a lot harder to get across than if it was a known comedian on stage telling it verbally with the right set up and circumstances. It was in bad taste, and Stephano should have known it would have been received poorly.

Yeah, I really hope he was too. Regardless he knows he fucked up (guilty or not), EG knows he fucked up (suspension is a very reasonable punishment, same thing many professional sports teams would do), and the sponsors are likely placated. People here are just being ridiculous about it as usual. This is probably one of the best handled PR screwups by a player and everyone is losing their shit over a month's suspension. Stephano will be back and he will be coming off a month of training in Korea.

Violentacrez approves of Stephano's joke (as he cries that his life is now ruined now that he's been outed). I find all of those funny.
