No. I was Gold Terran, switched to Zerg, dropped down to Silver and now I'm Master. But actually I don't think it's that hard. And I think it's definitly possible to do it much faster. It's just important to think what you do, and watch streams. I'm always watching Stephanos vods taking notes. On August 31 2012 14:33 FataLe wrote: It's possible! Plat to GM in one season here. The skill difference between a low master and a grandmaster is already like the difference between bronze and platinum. And let's not forget that in between high master and grandmaster it's already hard to learn because it's mostly not the bad macro and micro that's holding you back but actual strategy and decision making which is much harder to master and usually you need some natural talent in there too. So Plat to GM in one season is really hardly hardly possible especially with no previous rts experience.

So I played more. I've won 195 games this season and it payed off. After 20+ months in platinum league I've finally moved up. And now I'm diamond terran on EU :D Finally! I was begging to have strange ideas like getting US account or going the ezmode

I've never played an rts game online before, and I've never been lower than diamond since the game released, and now I am mid master, and i didnt have to analyze replays or have high apm to do it either. I'd say one of the keys to getting master league, if you really really want it, is to play cheesy and aggressive. The longer the game goes, the more decisions you have to make, which makes playing a longer game more difficult than palying a shorter one. Spoken as a true NA server player. :D

Although, it is certainly quite the accomplishment. I started playing last season and went from silver to plat, then this season I went from plat to 1400+ masters. Next season, I will be aiming for GM since the momentum is in my favor. Now, I really did play about 12-16 games per day however there wasn't a single cheese. No pools ever before 14, and never a 14/14 build. I never went for any speedling or ling/bane busts. I would not recommend cheesing to gain rank because you will hit a brick wall much more than someone who simply got really good at macro and timings in a very short period of time. Then again, I'm an old BW player so that probably helped out a lot. *edit* I switched the very day KeSPA officially switched. I clung on 'till the end~

I clung on 'till the end~ unless you are protoss then you can just 2-base your way to GM if you are good enough. With Zerg I feel is more of a defensive race. Always being macro and less cheese. There are always opportunities though to be aggressive when you see a weakness (a third not being protected or runbys) So I feel Zerg takes a lot more skill. I know i'm only Gold league but I feel i'm pretty decent and have come a long way this season. But seriously I play some tosses and terrans and I think how did you get into gold league just making mass marines?

There's even a guide to 6-pooling to GM in the strategy section. You can get into gold league by making mass marines because the scouting and macro in gold league is subpar. Zerg is more reactionary, but I don't think there is a good case for arguing that it is harder to play than the other races on any level. If anything, playing terran at the low level is probably the hardest.

Yes, I left out that I was once mid master but took an 8 month break and came back at plat level T.T True Plat --> GM in one season would be really sick but I suppose I cheated a bit with prior experience + game knowledge.

I have seen in the past some numbers blizzard provided for near guarenteed promotions, but I cant find them -.-, are all seasons the same length/ will old numbers be applicable to this season?
