I was surprised when I read that TL would add DotA 2 to its main site. It seems too fast, and with no warning whatsoever. I kind of miss a featured vote with the users on wether or not this should be. Or any way for us to give oppinions on it. I think its ok to add a wiki for it, a forum for it, but adding it to the news and thus watering out the Starcraft news is sad in my oppinion.
This was/is my place for Starcraft, I've played LoL, DotA and other games that have had subforums here, but I have always felt TeamLiquid is a place for Starcraft. GosuGamers added so many games that it lost its attraction for me, now TL is doing the same. I would be very supportive of making a sister-site for it, with its own layout and stuff, like with the site for the TL team, but just adding Dota 2 into TL as it is, that just ain't cool. Or maybe even doing like on GG.net, that you can choose the different games, and exclusively get that.
Am I the only one who has this oppinion?
I was worried when SC2 came that the community would grow sour, filled with haters and trolls, but TeamLiquid survived that really well. Its still a great community, where people who wants help gets help, where one respect oneanother, and get the update on Starcraft that one craves. But it sadly seems like the site itself has changed. It doesn't have the same philosophy as it did back when I first started to read here, back when Nal_Ra was my biggest hero, and had just the basic understanding of the game. It takes money for sponsored threads, it has commercials, it's feels more like a business than a down to earth community for gamers now. This last addition is just what made me feel like TL is not itself anymore.
I feel like an era is over. I am sad...

Oh, and what's up with the layout around the DotA 2 news? It does not synergize with the TL layout at all. It looks like a goth has crashed the place o_O
I know I sound like a PMSing bitch atm, but it hurts me to realize that TL is loosing its appeal to me. I have loved TL for soooo many years. It's so sad.

maybe they can add checkbox option in profile to not see dota 2 news?

You're such a vinegarpisser OP,
If you don't like the Dota2 sections, you can just turn that off and you won't even know it's there.
Also, TL is ruled by the mods/admins, not by the users. You don't have a vote here.
|
There's a cog top left to hide DOTA 2 stuff as per the article. The rest can be turned off here and here.
I have no interest at all in TL DOTA stuff, and it does seem a little bit of an odd choice to me, but it's easy enough for us to keep our focus on StarCraft and let those who do like that stuff enjoy it with an awesome community.

I've always felt TL was a place for the community, and that the mods/admins listened to us. And that it is not anymore is one of the sad things. Why should a community site NOT have a vote with the community, or inform us of its plans over such things?

You can just remove Dota 2? Everything stays the same.

At the very top left there is a settings icon, and you can deselect Dota 2 if you desire. If that's what you meant. It does look different but change is sometimes for the better. Still my favorite format and layout of any forum I've been to ever.

If you deselect everything Dota 2 related, you'll remove every trace of Dota 2 from TL.

Yeah, the ability to turn of all that stuff is handy. I've done it, and it works fine with everything except the news thingie on the front page it seems.
But I still don't like the idea of implementing it into the site. I want a good site where I can get DotA 2 news, I just don't think its a good combination with SC and TL. TeamLiquid is Starcraft, Starcraft is TeamLiquid. At least that was my impression before.

It hasn't been fast, either. We've been working on this for months.

Thanks for this. The customization is pretty nifty, as I just removed a bunch of stuff.

If anything it's going to help get me more interested in Dota2 which I know is quite a good game. As always TL is amazing with allowing to customize out Dota if a user so desires. You can literally filter ALL Dota news, streams, calendar entries and forums out if you want to, effectively removing Dota out of existence...
Now if TL chose LoL over Dota I might have had some issues.

I feel like an era is over. I am sad... sc2 news is continuing like ever, not getting watered down. sc2 writing staff are still going to write sc2, dota2 stuff is a seperate thing

I just don't understand, why you would be so sad about a thing that gets added to TL, which you can turn COMPLETELY off.
By the way, the mods actually listened to the users, if you actually read the article, then you see it says that there already was a Dota2 community within TeamLiquid. Now TeamLiquid just decided to give some extra support to that subcommunity. I seriously don't understand why you would be sad about that.
Like, I came here after the sc2 beta. Brood War didn't hold so much interest for me, so I didn't really post there anyway. I don't know where you got this "contamination" idea from. Another thing why TL isn't like the battle.net forums is because of the strict moderation in this place. I don't think you will have to worry about shitposting or whatever. You should go see the closed thread section once in a while for shits and giggles. Then you see what actually gets removed all the time.

I felt the same way when everything switched to sc2 ((,

There is this convenient preference option to not be able to see anything DOTA 2 related! Also, e-sports is a thing now, a real, living, breathing monster of a thing that is just growing. It is bigger now than it has ever been, and what is spearheading this? SC2 and MOBA games. I knew it was a matter of time before they picked up a moba game to have for here, and I think that they waited an appropriate amount of time to let these games develop, and they chose right. I have played a bit of DOTA 2 and am very excited for the future of it.

While we're talking about getting everything dota2 removed from TL, can someone tell me how to get the dota2 news out of featured/community news? I can't find a way to do that D:
