Now TeamLiquid just decided to give some extra support to that subcommunity. I seriously don't understand why you would be sad about that. Well, if thats all there is to it there should be a ton of other games supported more by TL too, but there is not(And I'm glad for it).

I don't know where you got this "contamination" idea from. Another thing why TL isn't like the battle.net forums is because of the strict moderation in this place. I don't think you will have to worry about shitposting or whatever. You should go see the closed thread section once in a while for shits and giggles. Then you see what actually gets removed all the time. I was afraid of that when the switch came for sc2, because there were alot fewer mods, and it could have turned into a situation where it would be too hard to moderate everything. But it turnerd out fine, and I'm not worried about the community side anymore. I kind of stated that already in the blog. And I know, reading the banlist and stuff is really entertaining stuff. =]

But I did not like the decline of BW content and interest that followed, even thoug I'm over it now, mostly because there practically is no more BW. But I would certainly not approve if a similar thing happened in this case.

SC2 portal, DOTA2 portal, nothing for BW but the old forums. If there was any doubt that TeamLiquid is after eyeballs...anyway it's just a few tweaks here and there from feeling more like a general video games community than a StarCraft one.

I am personally a huge fan of this addition, I love DotA 2. I think its one of the most rewarding games out there if you take the time to master it.

TL is a site for Esports. SC2 got added before it was even out.

Why isn't Dota2 simply in the games & sports section?

meh, i don't play moba games. i too enjoyed the fact that this was a dedicated sc site. but the money seems to be with moba games now.

Come on man. You don't get to choose everything that gets displayed on this site, no matter how much you want to believe that you do. There's good news though: Team Liquid is a great website with great people administrating it, and their aims don't need to align perfectly with yours for the site to be great. People have worked their ass off to make this site a money making venture, and it's not like the Dota 2 section is replacing the SC2 section. If they added the Dota 2 section in the interest of making money, doesn't that nurture the longevity of the SC2 section? Appreciate what you have, because one day it might not be here anymore. It's amazing what TL has accomplished.

I liked it when this site was a dedicated BW site. But even since that changed I don't really see any reason for TL not to take on Dota2.

Most of you guys seriously need to lighten up. With all the options they have build in you can see as much or as little from Dota2 as you wish.
I personally applaud TL for adding another game to their coverage section. TL hasn't sold you out but instead chose for the game they though would fit the feeling of TL best. With this I mean that they added a game in which the skill gap plays a big role. Meaning it isn't about grinding but about understanding the game, and acting upon your insight.
Sure, they could have confined themselves to only covering SC(2) but let's be honest here. Do you want to see your favorite E-sports site prosper or die within 5 years? If you chose "prosper" you need to accept that diversity has to be a part of this dream. You can't confine yourself to 1 game while trying to maintain an objective stance in the developing world of E-sports imo. E-sports how I personally understand it, is about how hard a game is to master. Not about how cool it is to nuke a ling.
If you really believe TL has to stay away from anything else as SC(2) you automatically condemn them to an early grave as there is no way imo that a single game will stay in the race forever. In the volatile world of E-sports concepts change, players change and even formats change. The one thing that keeps the same and that binds us together is the love to watch a game where a players creativity can make the difference. Creativity is also the main reason top players can switch between games. It's their ability to think outside the box instead of being confined by the mechanics of a single unit / hero / etc.
In the end a game is just a game and it can only rise and fall as far as the developers want it to go. The developers need to have the heart (and balls) to make something the (top)player can run amok with. With this I mean that the developers are responsible for the sound foundations and have to make sure some form of balance is present, but leave enough room for the players to experiment and come up with new ways to achieve things the developers couldn't even dream of.
That's why I personally have a love for E-sports and especially TL. Both are trying to find new boundaries to develop the coming years. Sure, this community could lay back and just absorb what happens around it. But imo this community has always been the leader of the pack. So lets go out there and find those games worth watching and playing on a high level. Lets dream big and see a future before us that involves E-sports as a stable part of our existence.
If you only want to see TL covering SC I have nothing against you as it was the game that brought you here and served you a lot of pleasure and entertainment, but please instead of voicing your grieve this way, just check the right boxes so you wont see anything from Dota and still enjoy everything you had before.
I for one just hope TL with it's great moderation and community can just keep growing and adding games where appropriate.
ps. Quake live really opened my eyes about how another genre was able to be a real E-sport imo. It was all about timing the artifacts and reading your opponent. What will he go for or what will I go for and in that case where is he waiting for me. It really was an eyeopener for me that a first person shooters could have the same feeling as I had within SC. The only sad part was that I came way to late to the party and it was already dieing when I learned to appreciate it.

Same, I think that LoL, Dota 2, and CS GO should be the top three pickup choices for TL, in reverse order.

But then TL would be just the average gaming site, just with a better forum. But for sure, if one should pick up one game, it makes sense to pick up several others that people have interest in as well.

I'm not so sure. There are STILL people playing BW, streaming it, commentating it, and loving it. The people wih dedication and love for SC would still stick around, and still make TL the best site. And I would rather keep it like that, instead of having the site still being there, but the users change greatly.
In addition: the discussion between hardcore gamers of different games always end up showing some hatred. One can clearly see it in most of the threads/blogs discussing the DotA 2 addition already. I and others question it(even if I like DotA) and the DotA fanboys give some massive hatred back every once in a while. They are not understanding or supportive, just straight out bashing people that don't support it. Not in a way that gets one banned, but enough to make people feel bad, and not wanting to post anymore. And thats not cool.

Not in a way that gets one banned, but enough to make people feel bad, and not wanting to post anymore. And thats not cool. I agree with you that there most likely will, for a long time, be a passionate group of people still involved with BW. The problem however is that this group is not big enough to sustain TL as a business. Sure, as a comunity it can survive and perhaps with a few donations here and there it can pay for the server costs. And in essence that is all you need for a small thight knit community.
However the people who work hard at making TL what it is with all it´s newsposts, site maintenance and countless other features also need to eat and live and that means they need money for working (fulltime) on the site. And for that to be possible you need something on a bigger scale as the tight knit BW enthousiasts.
My conclusion would be that although TL could survive with only the small BW enthousiast, I believe it would be a rather static website with infrequent updates and more often then not the news would be scattered in the forum and rather hard to find. Kind of like the early days of TL
ps. and I can only hope that everybody who is disrespectfull of the other games gets a good wake up call. I you don´t like a game please just stay away from it. You can customise TL through the little cog on the top left so you don´t have to see anything related to that specific game.
On top of that you can customize how you want the sidebars to look like. Below the left side bar is a link called "customize sidebar" where you can swap around / hide the different blocks and what you want to see in them. For the right side the link is called "sidebar settings".
