But recently I've felt as if all the good times are past.
Between talking with my best friend about something we need to do together, and all these pokemon blogs, I can't but feel that I took all the best times for granted, and I'm stuck in this present state. I wonder, too, if in the future I'll look back and realize I took this for granted, and here I am looking for a way out.
This whole thought process was sparked by the 2 pokemon threads in the blogs section. Sure they're all gen1/2 based, and I made my day in gen 4, but it doesn't matter. Here we are in gen5 - mind you I'm not even opening a smogon tab because I'll get too nostalgic - and there's all this crazy shit and I just miss the old days.
Gen4 pokemon was basically my first gateway to the internet. Before I knew how to work a forum (I learned, though), IRC, play anything but Halo CE, make friends online... Strangely a lot of the best friends I made were ones that I played pokemon with over the internet. Talk about pokemon being the game of one's childhood.
I was thinking about it in bed - and one of the memories that came up was a clanwar (shoutout if you remember those, the marriland vs seribii ones, gamefaq, pe2k, pokebeach...) against a smaller forum, and I hadn't played on my site's lineup beforehand because we'd always had our other guys play. I don't remember the score of the whole war, but I remeber getting home and playing mine before the deadline, predicting his flygon switch (post chomp ban, when scizor was getting very popular) with an ice shard from mamo, ohko, and winning something like 3-0.
What I mean to say is that those were some of the most memorable times of my life, and though nothing lasts forever, I wish I'd have more of those kinds of memories. I should probably just be patient though.
Pokemon's just an example though. I'm drifting away from my best friend and I don't know how to fix it. We just have different interests. I found Starcraft, he stuck with Yugioh and I remember back in the day when we used to just play that together for hours. All that's gone, and every attempt we've had at reconnecting in that way - he got MW3 cause I loved shooters, but i phased it out for sc2, i got him sc2 but he wasnt interested, he offered me a wh2k army but I declined because i knew i wouldnt have time, and most recently, I never got D3 - have failed.
I wanna find something new - hopefully pokemon TCG will be it.
On a happier note, TCG makes me think of pokemon VGC, which is really the only pokemon I follow remotely at this point. All the events have happened this year except for the world championships at Hawaii, but at any point in the season next year, we should have a TL meetup. I did post a blog about the nationals from last year (wow its been a year???), and the next one I go to I'll make sure to do the same.
Cheers to pokemon, childhood, and late nights when I have to be up in 4 hours to go to the airport ^^
okay first, by Haxx do u mean HaXXspetten? second YAY pokemon TCG, all my childhood memories are basically TCG from pokemon to yugioh and finally magic ofc i dabbled a bit in those side-card games like the digimon and harrypotter and some others i cant remember the names of but pokemon was the of it all for me, and even at the end of my highschool years i remember buying pokemon firered off a website and playing it, oh the joy of having my charizard by myside again (first pokemon game was red and ofc i chose charmandar) i also recenty got*(dled) the first season of pokemon tv series because i knew i had missed a couple of eps on those morning I'm also always so jealous of TL-meet ups because they're always held in the us and well lol being in australia its a bit hard for me to attend them LOL Tho one day i hope i get to meet you all, everyone on TL (probaby not everyone but as many as i can ) edit: I also see u reaching 4k posts, maybe a girlblog for the 4kth one hm? lol i see sometimes in the girlblogs so it would be nice to hear one ur yours! lol good luck!
I know that feel man. I don't know if it is or was like this for you... but going to college and all of sudden realizing that your childhood is essentially over, if it hasn't been over for a while...it's just....whoa. I got into pokemon a lot too probably around gen II, but never really went competitive or onto forums. For me it was mostly that sense of adventure you get going into the game, and for some reason I don't really feel it as much because knowing about IVs and EVs and movesets and everything killed that sort of wonder I think.
Childhood is something that feels like it moves so slowly when you're a child, but then all of a sudden you're supposed to be going to college and be a adult and enter the world and everything, and suddenly the world is moving so fast. I dunno, sometimes I feel that way. But in general, never get old yo. Sort of rambled there but yeah...I could perfectly imagine that one 3-0 win you described. Must have feel like pure win (and it was).
I know the feeling, basically my childhood revolved around Playing Pokemon Gen1 and 2 with my Gameboy color and watching the show coming from the TV and playing Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 on my PS2, the power of nostalgia is amazing.

KH2 is probably my favorite game of all time or something. That nostalgia is just unbelievable from that game.

Oh man I've always been a HUGE Nerd and TCGs were always my favorite! I never played any tournaments with pokemon sadly T_T I spent my time playing the Gameboy and collecting and trading with my friends. (I even remember when they got banned from school back in the day) End of middle school start of High School I started playing yugioh and magic. I actually got really into the tournament scene for yugioh for like 4 years and placed top 10 at a couple regional tournaments (always so close but never able to make the top 8 to compete at Nationals T_T) A couple years ago at the start of college my youngest brother and his friends started being magic cards which reignited my love of TCGs and i've gone above and beyond collecting and building decks. I've gotten all my friends into including my girlfriend. Between her and I we have probably 14 top decks that can compeite with eachother. Of course a couple of them are designed for 2v2s or FFA but still I haven't brought them to any tournaments yet sadly I uselly will just watch them on Twitch.tv I just don't have the time with all the Starcraft stuff I have to do but maybe some day
Back to the whole pokemon TCG I actually saw a couple comics/news post pop up on Penny Arcade the other day ( http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2012/07/18 ) And this made me really curious about the the tournament scene. If you start to play more please make more post about it because I love hearing about the TCG community and scene :D
