But here I am, a 18 months in to my TL career, at three thousand posts. Although to me, this pretty moderate. On another forum, my first, in fact, and just as large scale as TL, I hit almost 8k in the 3 months I had there. Of course, I had more zeal for Pokemon when I was 13 than I do now, for Starcraft when I'm 18.
I've been here a while (of course, not compared to a lot of the members now) and I've never really posted anything about myself, except in sporadic posts spread about in threads I frequent (KMD). I also Live Report for GSL games a lot of nights.
So hey, TL. I'm Juliette (not my real name), from California, and I'm 18. In the fall, I'll be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, majoring in Biology, and hopefully being active in the CSL team there.
+ Show Spoiler [history] +
I found Team Liquid when I was looking for a forum to learn about Starcraft II. I found Starcraft II watching youtube VODs of Halo 3 - seeing as this was 2010, during beta, and H3 was still alive, this whole RTS thing was new to me. I remember watching a game where tanks were sieging the top gold of metalopolis from the watch tower, with vikings in the sky (Beta TvT lol) and going, "woah, this is NOT halo."
Since then, I actually bought the game a few weeks on launch, messed around, learned how to play a little bit, on and off. I picked Protoss, I remember, because it was the only race to not have to sacrifice a worker's mining time to make buildings. During what was left of 2010, when H3 was dying and Reach came out, and blackops was launched, I played very sparingly. I was in my junior year of high school and I wasn't used to the workload, so I blew off homework and played xbox like always. When I realized my grades weren't good enough, I made a choice to quit xbox for the first half of 2011 and focus on studies. Naturally I found video games to replace that - LoL and SC2. Since then I haven't really played shooters a lot.
Hell, I remember I enjoyed watching SC2 so much I shifted my sleep schedule around watching GSL for an entire semester. After that I started losing my passion and went back to a more normal teenage schedule (as in, what sleep schedule lol), but I still try to watch what I can.
I made a good friend, OmniEulogy on TL, by making a blog, learned how to play protoss, got into diamond from bronze in about a month and a half, and stopped because AP testing for my junior year was coming up. I said i'd play in the summer. Senior year came and I was still floating around in diamond, playing games here and there. One day I said "fuck this shit" and smurfed, played terran and got to diamond as a terran. Then i said ok fuck this I'll random on my main account. I got demoted and I still haven't been playing, really.
Anyway, my point here is that time flies. Somehow I've gotten to 3k posts - and actually the last third of that was within the past 4 months. Its because of the LRs I've been doing during that time, and while I did stop to finish up my AP exams and finals, I'll continue again next week when GSL's ro8 kicks into gear.
I'd just like to thank TL for being such a wonderful place. I've met a lot of new friends, several in person through the two MLGs in my area, and kept a ton online. I visited New York and through the magic of the internet, spent a night with the BW crowd watching one of their cybercraft tournaments and having dinner.
The internet is actually so awesome once you're immersed in it like our generation. For example it was a person I met from my pokemon days that convinced me to apply to UIUC, and here I am heading there to study in 6 (7) weeks.
KMD is not a scary place, you guys, its actually a wonderful place as long as you stay away from ranking SNSD members. I've been posting a lot in Men's Fashion recently, as well as keeping up with my GSL.
There's so many more thoughts I have to write about but I really don't know how to organize them, and where I want to begin. So if anyone would like me to talk about something in particular; say, recommend them music I enjoy, or whatever, please do!
I really feel like I should be contributing more to the forum, but there's very little in terms of skill sets that I have to be able to do so. I'll continue to LR, as that's how I see myself contributing, but in the mean time, have a picture i drew really fast
Cheers,
Juliette
