I've been hoping he would get 30 over 3 with an injury clause this entire off season. 34 over 3 is pretty damn close to what I was thinking.

maybe in a couple years they add a few players to the bench and could make a decent playoff run?

The argument for saying that he's now overpaid isn't necessarily because he isn't talented enough.. I think it's because with all the UFAs that the Celtics have this year they aren't seen as a team that has a shot at a championship, so why pay KG all that money when you know he's going to be retiring before they make another run? Personally I think it's money well-spent if he can mentor their younger centers, but with what KG has shown personality wise I don't know. For all we know he could tell the rookies to go fuck themselves.

The only criticism anyone could have is that he is 37. Celtics fans would say that age doesn't matter though and that he is still a great player, which I agree. If anyone at 37 deserves this kind of deal it is KG! It is just paying that $12 million on that third year when he is 39/40, with the new CBA in full-swing, that might hurt them a little. If they are not in contention then, it might hurt them if having to rebuild under the salary cap (and trying to sign FA), depending on other contracts they have on the books. It will be interesting to see if that 3rd year is guaranteed though. If it isn't, then I would say this is almost a steal for the C's (if he stays healthy ofc) TLDR:great deal for next 2 years if he stays healthy, but depends on C's contender-status for that 3rd year imo. Overall, good deal though even if it turns out to be a guaranteed 3rd.
