We call it... All The Way North
So I was talking with my friend Keon on skype last week, and in the amidst of other things like him going to Korea for a very extended period of time soon, we somehow hatched the following crazy idea.
Backstory: He is a Jeep fanatic. His previous car was a 1996 Jeep of some model that I can't really remember, and his new car is a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer. See normally people get newer cars as time passes but apparently older Jeeps are just sexier. Yes, he is actually 100% Korean. Don't ask me where the Jeep fetish comes from.
One of us, I don't remember who, randomly wondered, wouldn't it be cool to drive as far as possible in that 23 year old Jeep? That Jeep that's the same age as us.... incredible. So we checked to see how far north the roads go, and we figured out we could go from where we are in the middle of the east coast of the United States up about ~4400 miles to Inuvik, Canada, which is actually 200 miles above the Arctic Circle.
But a straight drive is not so crazy. So, we hatched a plan to stop by many places on the way there, some detours etc that drive the total one way length to about 5000 miles, and of course we've also got to camp along the way, visit all sorts of interesting places, and in general extend the trip to about 40 days.
Of course this is not cheap. Actually we calculated the costs and it came out to about $8-9k, might be lower if we camp really a lot, but eh gotta guesttimate. Also his Jeep gets horrible gas mileage, the brute, and Canadian gas is apparently not cheap like American gas. Because American gas is "cheap".
So where to get all that funding from? Well, we don't have that much ourselves though we could probably put in 1-2k combined. Shit the gas alone is nearly $3k, not even counting food and all that other stuff for ~40 days.
And that's when we decided to give it a shot, made an introduction video with the shitty camera my friend had with him (we're a state apart), and put it on Kickstarter. Of course this means we have to actually produce something, which also ups the cost a bit, and then you have to factor in Kickstarter/Amazon's take, and other things, so it all came to $14k.
We think this will be the last opportunity for us to do something epic like 40 day 10,000 mile journey for quite a few years. We also think this would be an interesting journey to follow. We're on a really tight timeline, had to set the timespan on the Kickstarter to 30 days to give time for Amazon to process payments and then also to start the trip on time, and get back before he leaves for Korea for the next few years.
So, help us out by spreading the word and/or pledging something on Kickstarter if you are interested and think this is something worth doing! We won't disappoint you. Assuming this project actually gets funded, it will be my primary focus for the duration of the project as specified over on Kickstarter.
If we can get things rolling we can even get featured on the daily front page or Discover page on Kickstarter! That and being on the Currently Popular list would be a great aid!

Um.. good luck.. but
I dont think many people are going to donate for you to go on an unneccesary road trip for $15k. Maybe if you had cancer and it was your last chance or something....but there's not even a sympathy factor.. Only thing going for you is the fact it might be great for anecdotes.
I might as well start one to raise money for me to go progaming.
Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a great idea and would be life changing and a great experience.. but $15,000 for some guys to go on a vacation? :O
edit: Can you even drive that far north with normal car? That's pretty North bro.

HA HA your Jeep won't last, its carbourated and old. BTW pioneer is a trim option...
Your trip seems like its going to be boring, what you should really do is, go to Wyoming, through Yellowstone park and then follow the Rockies north.

Yes we can drive that far north. And we're not just going to be taking a trip, though it would have if it weren't for the fact we decided we can't fund it ourselves.
There have been similar film projects on Kickstarter before - we're going to do it as more than just a documentary that is put together at the end of the trip, as we're also going to have constant updates through blog/youtube along the way, and also attempt to be as interactive as possible with supporters if we can run into them along the way.
Seriously though this actually has a decent shot of working on Kickstarter if we can actually get it started so that they might feature it for a day in the documentary section, or it filters into the currently popular section so that people who are casually browsing on Kickstarter can see it.

Rocky Mountains are in Canada too you know, and we're actually going to be following them for a while in Canada.

There aren't any roads once you get far enough north. You'll have trouble making any progress through thick forests unless you go during the winter when you can drive on frozen lakes and rivers. There are very few places to stop for gas, too. You'll need to take a LOT of extra fuel with you.

We've already checked the route and we know. We can actually drive to Inuvik, which is that last point you see about 100km from the Beaufort Sea.

That's kinda what I meant with driving that far North..
Did you really research this or just look on MapQuest and say "oh it ends there I guess"?
Honestly though, between a 23 year old jeep, and a 30 day deadline to raise $500 per day....
The blog title "Crazy Idea" says it all...
Well good luck... if you get the money go for it.

Yes we did research it, we can get there. And actually no further than there. That's where the road ends, as far as how far we can go.
And hey, I did say it was a crazy idea.

I could of been stupid and proposed the Appalachians...
Your current route just seems lackluster until you reach Canada, which I proposed the detour in the first place.

That's just the main route, we haven't decided completely on which diversions to take yet. That won't be the final route.
