I'm sorry I've taken so long to write about basics of BW - I just .... realized that I actually don't know the metagame anymore T_T haha.

So if anyone has any question about of what to expect in BW match ups, or wants some history, context or rivalries, I will do my best to answer!

Proleague seems to be very important in the BW scene, much more important than teamleagues in SC2. Was this always like that and what is more important, Starleague or Proleague? Personally I love teamleagues because they are great for rivalries and new rising stars as well. By the way, thanks for doing that, great initiative to bring the communitys together. I recently(a few month ago or so)I tried watching some BW and even though I did not really understood what was going on I enjoyed reading live reports(how surprising readable they are compared to the fast SC2 ones!) and trying to figure out what was going on.

A short summarization of a few match-ups would be greatly appreciated, but your personal outlook on the upcoming season would be as well. I really want to try to get into BW here - , I don't believe I'll get any in-depth knowledge in time, but better now than never eh? TvZ : About veryone's favorite match-up, as it is very dynamic, even though the matchup tends to favour terran nowadays. Terran have the initiative and can go bio, mech, or fast tech, usually off two base. Against mech, zerg willl tend to mass expand, make hydra/muta then tech to queen defilers ultralisk depending on the situation. But the most solid gameplan is the following : 1 rax expand against 3 hatch muta, zerg takes a third about when muta pop try to keep it and maybe to harass a bit, terran tries to deny it. Then zerg makes lurkers to defend until they get defilersn take a 4th, and transition against ultra. Terran make tanks/science vessels, and at one point use vulture to transition into mech. Overall multitask heavy and very tactical (go read Ver's article about sAviOr if you haven't yet). ZvP : Usually forge fast expand against fast 3 bases. Nowaydays the trend is to make quite a few corsairs and zealots before taking a third, then dragoons, templars/archons. On the other hand, zerg try to take a fast 4th, defend it with sunkens, then make hydra lurk and finally hive tech. Midgame armies usually favor zerg, very lategame protoss, even though ultra/ling/defiler is very strong. Very macro oriented, but zerg tend to hydra bust a lot^^ Oh yeah, numerous drop often happen. PvT : Protoss tends to expand faster than terran. Usual compo is dragoon zealot then arbiter + templar, sometimes a carrier transition (map dependent). Terran always mech and can either do a two base timing or go 3 base and try to push with good upgrade and a near max army. They can vulture harass all game long, toss have DTs/reavers at the beginning, and then recall after. ZvZ : you probably won't like it much, you need to play it to understand its beauty^^ Very fast paced, short, low drone count mirror, involving almost always only muta/scourge/ling. There's a bit of rock paper scissors mechanic depending on the opening, but micro and tactics are very impoortant. TvT : the opposite. Often compared to chess with explosive pieces. Involves mainly tanks, but often vultures early game and after for harass, and then goliaths. Two tendencies : drops or mass air (wraith valkyrie). Highly strategic, I love it even if some people think it's a bit slow paced (never the case with top terrans). PvP : Hope for reaver macro =) Dragoons vs dragoons at the beginning, then tech to either dts or reavers/observers. Lot of early game bust possible, but when it comes to macro games it's a bit of ball vs ball, with storms and reavers thrown in, and of course harrassment. For this season, I expect lots of cheeses and bad games on the bw side... Wait and see though. Maybe try to watch a few vods of one or two match up to get it better. Sayle is a good commentator, and he knows how to be noob friendly. Don't listen to his ZvZ commentary though :p On May 19 2012 03:38 CrazyBirdman wrote: @IntoTheWow: I already asked this in the Flash interview thread but it washed away but Protoss complains, so I take my chance here. I think it used to be different back then, but yeah nowadays PL>>>individual leagues. Player practise for individual leagues on their free time on most teams. Sorry intothewow, but maybe two different outlooks will help more people, and nice idea =)
