this only works for insane... and I guess it still does, otherwise we'd have more reports of it by now.

I don't think it works. Last time I played, my friend and I gas rushed and they didn't pull, and we were like "daaaamn how we gonna win now?"

I'm talking about insane...

Well done guide. I got the achievement when doing the protoss example a few times hah :D

I think they changed the how AI reacts to cheese.
|
Yup, changed the AI. You have to 6pool + drones and hope for the best w/ micro now.
|
Wow... so you really can't pylon/depot/extractor harass them anymore? THANK GOD I ALREADY DID THESE ACHIEVEMENTS! Good luck to everybody else who didn't yet (you're fu$%ed :D).

what i did with zerg is ZvZ spine crawler behind minerals to bottleneck drones like someone previewsly suggested.
6pool worked for me against Z and T but not P, zealots tear them down. also com wont give gg and it takes 10 min to raze buildings.

Me and a buddy were whoring achievements for lolz yesterday in 2v2 VS insane AI, I was wondering why they didn't gg, so you saying if one player left then the AI would gg and we would still both get the win? Should save us alot of time :D
For the record, all we did was cannon rush from the low ground (make a pylon + 2-3 cannons low ground) then send your dude up just as cannon was finishing and start building shit on high ground. Keep edging towards their mineral line, and if they are zerg just throw down 2 gates and chrono zealots to finish them off (actually we usually throw down 2 gates to speed things up anyway).
On a favourable map took us about 10 game minutes, but that's because we had to finish off all of their buildings...if one of us leaving is gonna make them gg we should be able to cut that time down a lot...

With okay mechanics and good defense you can beat any insane AI race with normal builds, at least with Terran. It's good practice doing your build vs insane AI just to make sure it's flexible. Obviously won't be much like a real game, but it's a more stable environment to practice your mechanics and build order flexibility since your are basically getting All Ined every 4 minutes.
Granted this will never be as quick as OP's option suggests.
|
OP's intention was under 5 min achievement witch can't be done with zerg, except vs zerg, right now
|
Some tactics from the 1v4 Very Hard AI thread also work against single insane opponents, for those interested. I like this guide, I did not notice it before (appearantly its an old OP).
|
My goodness, I'm glad I've moved on from achievement hunting... playing against real people is so much more fun
|
The Insane AI stopped reacting to gas steals at the commencement of 1.4.
|
Great guide, this is probably one of the better ones out there. Definitely amongst my favorites along with this.
|
For anybody struggling with the vs 2 Insane AI, I'd suggest a gosu cannon rush on Twilight Fortress.
|
Its actually pretty amazing beating the AI without abusing them

Thanks for the responses all! I'm really sorry to hear about the extractor not pulling workers anymore; I'll be sure to update if/when I find an alternative. For the time being, I'd guess that using a spine to pull vs. another Z would work, but you'd have to wait for your pool to finish... Kinda a bummer

I grinded these things out awhile ago, and you can actually win with faster methods. I used Steppes of War every time, against Zerg for all three races.
For Zerg, 6 pool, send 2 drones when pool is halfway done, build 2 Spine Crawlers behind the mineral line at the "choke points". Both will finish, one at like 20-30 Health, and you'll get a GG about 10 seconds later.
For Protoss and Terran, you want to abuse the AI so they get in a loop of trying to kill your buildings and running away from the attacks. The trick is to have an offensive building on the lowground, any building on the highground in range, and it needs to hit before the AI has any offensive units being produced (so that workers are the only things that can defend).
Protoss, Cannon Rush works best. Send a Probe at the very start, build a Pylon and a Forge ASAP right at the base of the ramp. Build a cannon so it can hit the ramp and the top of it. Drop a second cannon as soon as you can (not necessary, but it doesn't hurt the timing and it makes things more fail-safe). Once you have the minerals, drop a Pylon just above the ramp, in range of your first cannon (which will be finishing in a few seconds). Enemy will pull workers to kill the pylon, see the cannons, try to kill that, then get stuck in AI loop and GG.
Terran works the same, essentially. Send an SCV to enemy ramp ASAP, build a supply depot. Build a Barracks next. Send another SCV once the Rax is about halfway done. Start a Bunker next, in the corner of the ramp and the wall (still on lowground) and then build a Marine (rally Rax into Bunker). Once Bunker is about 75% done, get second SCV to start a supply depot on highground in range of Bunker. Build a second marine ASAP.
Terran is a bit trickier, because the workers will actually attack the bunker for a bit until second marine pops. Ideally, you want the Rax and Depot to create a semi-choke for your Bunker.
EDIT: Apparently I had replays saved. Toss and Zerg can win in ~3 minutes, Terran takes ~3.5.

for the multi achieve you can beat like 6 or 7 or however many the max is of insane ai by simple choosing a map with an island floating your cc out there (need to be terran) and teching to BC and mass them, let the computer kill eachother off while you do this then go in and clean up the one or 2 left with the BCs. then you get a cool portrait of that guy from the campaign that you hire a mercenary army to kill orl-somthing..arl-somthing i dunno
