EPTAs I’ve said before, Fallen and I are very close and we headed out together to MLG Winter Championship; him to compete as part of the compLexity Academy and me to support him. And per usual, I went to be a fanboy.
As soon as we arrived, Fallen went to meet NoCreativity and Goswser, who are both with the compLexity Academy. Fallen picked up his compLexity mouse pad and jerseys. And then the boys sat down to practice. I hung out and walked around, watching people ladder. I then notice NaNiwa walk by me….and the fact that he has a pair of Love Pink sweatpants on.
We eventually met up with Alex, the compLexity writer, and Scott, the compLexity player manager. And they’re really cool guys, we shot the shit and just chatted about the chances that compLexity has and who might take it all. Secretly, I did a happy dance inside because here I am, a gold league baddie, and I got to hang out with a pro-team and its staff. It felt so amazing.
Scott, being the busy guy he is, disappeared and I didn’t really notice. Being oblivious, I ask like 45 minutes later where he had gone. It turned out that Scott had gone to the hotel to grab the Koreans to usher them to their matches on Friday. Ignoring how awesome that is, we just keep plowing through our conversation. All of a sudden, Scott appears with a huge Korean guy and a guy in glasses. And Scott introduces them as
Killer and Heart respectively. Holy. Shit.
So Heart introduces himself to Fallen and NoCreativity. And then me?? Then
Killer does the same. Totally speechless.Saturday comes and again I was chilling with Fallen and NoCreativity just because I got to know them. As we moved around to the player feature station to watch
Killer vs Symbol and Idra vs Jinro. Alex brought over Heart to watch his new teammate and we started chatting. NoCreativity asked him who he liked better: Idra or Jinro. And Heart told us, in very good English, that he would love to see a fistfight between Idra and Jinro. Idra is always angry and he swore that Jinro smashed his keyboard with his head at an MLG. And Jinro is a gorilla so it’d be a good fight. I asked which broke: the keyboard or his head. Heart taps his forehead. We then ask him about Drewbie’s chances against Rain. And Heart tells us that Drewbie is a level below Rain, but that he still wants to cheer for his new teammate. We have a good laugh; turns out Heart is hilarious. Heart was actually a really good ninja too and often disappeared and reappeared. At this point, I felt pretty good. I got to hang out with these cool compLexity guys. I got to hang out with some of the Korean trio that coL picked up. Little did I know that Heart is also an animal and has really sick micro.
Side note, did anyone watch Heart versus HuK? Heart goes for a 1/1/1 on Metalopolis and stutter-stepped his marines AND kited with the banshee at the same time. It looked really cool on screen and then I realized….unreal micro is going down.
So Heart started to smash his way through the open bracket and I keep getting updates from the coL guys. But since it’s his debut, I didn’t really pay much attention. To be fair, SeleCT and ThorZaIN were around so my attention was a little occupied. Turns out
Heart made it into the Championship bracket to play DRG. Obviously I had to watch.Poor Heart got beaten 2-0, but to be fair, it is DRG. What I remember most is, again, Heart’s micro is unreal. When DRG surrounds him on Shakurus against the cliff on the third and SOMEHOW, Heart still stuttersteps? Unreal. But my favorite moment came next. Again, I’m in the bathroom. Apparently all my cool MLG moments are bathroom related. I’m washed my hands and realized that Heart is next to me.
Me: “Heart, your micro is so good”.
Heart: “Oh, Hi! Yeah, but no good to win though”
As he walked out, I realized that this big bad Korean who ends up having this breakout tournament and getting third place, remembered little plebian me. Can I please squee now?? And yes, I did feel a little bad that I caught him at a bad time but on the other hand…Heart RECOGNIZED ME.
So yeah, no big deal, but Heart knows who I am and I got to hang out with him at MLG. New favorite Korean terran? Absolutely.
