- Day One Recap
Day two of the MLG Winter Championship began with a series of upsets in the Open Bracket that gave hope to the notion that perhaps, everyone did have a chance of going all the way. Liquid`Sheth's victory over TSL_Polt came as a surprise to many, but was overshadowed soon after when Sheth was himself defeated by lesser known American pro KawaiiRiceLight in the final round of the Winners Bracket. Yet, even that upset was trumped, as GoSuOstojiy overcame vast underdog odds to defeat GoldenLight and EG.PuMa, joining KawaiiRice in pool play.
In the Losers Bracket, the hitherto unknown YaTa's run through Destiny, Shew, Killer and Drewbie confirmed its place as the longest upset streak of the tournament. Even the recently dismal IdrA got in on the fun, taking out TSL_Inori, right after the Korean Protoss had eliminated Mill.Stephano in the previous round.
Unfortunately (and inevitably), things turned sour for hopeful hearts – whether they were competing in the tournament or watching at home. All momentum was halted violently, with Ostojiy and KawaiiRice going went 1 – 4 in their groups, IdrA getting knocked out by by Polt, and YaTa getting taken out by PuMa. Even HayprO, the surprise star of day one, found himself taking a step back after suffering two straight defeats to end his group with a 2 – 3 record.
The Truth, Like it or Not
More so than any individual story, a general aura of Korean invincibility permeated the day's proceedings. Forget MKP & DRG's perfect 5 – 0 scores – that was expected. Heart, a so-far bit player in the GSL, came in from the open bracket and dominated a distinctly foreign (spare us the details) group C with a 5 – 0 record. Two top foreigners in ThorZaIN and SaSe found themselves sitting at the bottom of their four Korean group. There were four last gasp tickets at the end of the Losers Bracket, and they all went to Korean players who defeated foreigner opponents. 16 of 24 remaining players are Korean, and many of them reside in the upper part of the bracket. With four Koreans topping the group, the GSL's home country is guaranteed at the very worst, a second place finish.
A Dramatic Finish?
It's no secret that the level of interest of the foreign audience – the very audience MLG must live and die by – is heavily influenced by the success of non-Korean players. While personable players like DongRaeGu and MC are still hugely improved alternatives to the seemingly heartless winning automatons such as IMMvp or ST_Bomber, they cannot carry a crowd like a single foreigner superstar. The successes at Orlando and Providence, and the surge of momentum to end MLG's year owed a good deal to the involvement HuK and NaNiwa in those respective finals.
Luckily for MLG, both of them are waiting high in the Championship Bracket.
Live Update Log
+ Show Spoiler [Update Log] +
02:17 GMT (+00:00): Golden 2 - 1 ThorZaIN. A devastating zergling runby combined with a failed double drop was too much for ThorZaIN to overcome. While ThorZaIN played a long game, Golden was ahead the entire time and eventually won with brood lords.
02:12 GMT (+00:00): SeleCT 2 - 0 Grubby. Daybreak, Grubby @ left SeleCT @ right. Grubby went for a 5 gate timing, but when SeleCT held he played from behind all game and couldn't catch up.
02:01 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 1 - 1 Socke. Entombed Valley, Socke @ 7 Socke @ 2. Socke proxied a robo after expanding but can't kill PuMa with his attack. The game went long but PuMa's held his lead and killed with a big marine and marauder army.
02:00 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 1 - 1 Golden. ThorZaIN's creeping tank push reached Golden's territory before the Korean Zerg had enough the tech or army to hold it off effectively, and ThorZaIN was able to keep pushing for the win.
01:58 GMT (+00:00): Polt 2 - 0 Ostojiy. A one base hellion - banshee build was enough for Polt to advance to the next round.
01:53 GMT (+00:00): SeleCT 1 - 0 Grubby. Antiga, Grubby @ 5 SeleCT @ 10. SeleCT won in a long macro war with better multitask, army control, and faster 3-3.

01:45 GMT (+00:00): Golden 1 - 0 ThorZaIN. ThorZaIN tried to play his patient spoon style on Antiga Shipyard, but Golden showed he was a great late game player as well. Golden committed to protecting his brood lords with infestors and a huge corruptor contingent, and ThorZaIN simply could not break that force.
01:44 GMT (+00:00): Socke 1 - 0 PuMa. Antiga, PuMa @ 7 Socke @ 2. Socke got to 3 bases on the back of gateway units, and then quickly teched to both templar and colossus. PuMa was unable to do damage with drops in the midgame and rolled over to the lategame Protoss army.

01:08 GMT (+00:00): Polt looks ready to attack into Idra's main and try to end it, but then the game lagged out. They unpaused and tried a second time, but lag once again struck. Currently unknown status.

00:51 GMT (+00:00): Rain 2 - 1 aLive. aLive accepted Rain's challenge after scouting a proxy factory and starport, but it turned out he wasn't up to it. 00:48 GMT (+00:00): Meanwhile, off-stream, PuMa beat Axslav 2 - 0 in Championship Bracket first round.
00:48 GMT (+00:00): Heart 1 - 1 Ret. Stream died again!
00:47 GMT (+00:00): Polt 1 - 0 IdrA. Shakuras, IdrA @ 2 Polt @ 7. Polt made 2 starports, canceled them when they were scouted, and then rebuilt them. It didn't matter though because he ran in with his first dozen marines and killed Idra's natural, forcing a GG.
00:37 GMT (+00:00): ThorZain 0 - 2 CrazyMoving. Antiga, ThorZain @ 10 CrazMoving @ 5. CrazyMoving started pumping pure roach on 17 drones and killed ThorZain straight up, busting through the wall and hitting his early army.

00:25 GMT (+00:00): DongRaeGu 2 - 1 JYP. Antiga, DRG @ 7 JYP @ 2. JYP tried a 2 base blink stalker +2 all-in, and DRG held with roaches and later infestors.

23:56 GMT (+00:00): aLive 2 - 0 Grubby. aLive was able to pick apart Grubby with drops, being everywhere Grubby wasn't and caused him endless misery.
23:55 GMT (+00:00): NaNiwa 2 - 0 Ostojiy. Metalopolis NaNiwa @ 12 Ostojiy @ 3. Ostojiy started 2 base infestor/ling and killed some void rays. Game went into long macro war and NaNiwa got an army too big to kill, finished him off with a mothership.

23:51 GMT (+00:00): DongRaeGu 1 - 0 JYP. Daybreak JYP @ left DRG @ right. JYP harassed with some void rays and killed a lot of queens, but DRG built roaches and then switched to mutas to take and keep control of the game.

Golden 2 – 0 Symbol
Axslav 2 – 0 Minigun
23:45 GMT (+00:00): MKP 1 - 0 ThorZaIN. At the end of one crazy game where ThorZaIN tried to switch from bio into battlecruisers, MKP won out with the perseverance and efficiency of mech Terran.
23:41 GMT (+00:00): aLive 1 - 0 Grubby. aLive followed his rax FE open with a five-rax, mass marine strat that caught Grubby off guard and hurt him badly. From there, aLive had no problem playing safely until he won with relative ease.
23:32 GMT (+00:00): Grubby vs aLive starts up!
23:22 GMT (+00:00): MKP vs ThorzaIN begins, with ThorzaIN having seeding to consider, while MKP has nothing to gain.
23:15 GMT (+00:00): MC 2 - 1 CrazymovING. MC used stargate tactics + a low ground pylon warp-in to do a severe amount of damage to CrazymoviNG early on and coasted to a victory.
23:12 GMT (+00:00): PartinG 2 - 1 Rain. Tal'Darim PartinG @ 7 Rain @ 10. Rain had the lead for much of the midgame, but got his army trapped in between a cliff and storms and lost it all. PartinG's late game macro can't be stopped.
23:04 GMT (+00:00): Ostojiy defeats HayprO 2 - 0 in a Group B off-air game.
22:54 GMT (+00:00): Inori defeats Stephano 2 - 1 in the Losers Bracket, knocking him out of the tournament.
22:52 GMT (+00:00): Heart 2 - 0 Socke. Heart straight up defeated Socke's fast expansion with a 2-rax marine and marauder push.
22:50 GMT (+00:00): PartinG 1 - 1 Rain. Entombed Valley, Parting @ 7 Rain @ 2. Rain proxied a stargate and did void ray all-in, went in with 2 void rays and couldn't break throgh Rain's marines.
22:48 GMT (+00:00): viOLet 2 - 0 Kawaii. Entombed Valley with Kawaii @ 5 viOlet @ 10. Kawaii couldn't stop viOLet from getting to brood lords and viOLet ran him over with a late game army.
22:44 GMT (+00:00): Crazymoving 1 - 0 MC. CrazymoviNG hit with a great hydra-roach timing as MC tried to secure his third base, managing to destroy the Nexus. When MC tried to retake it with colossi added to his army, Crazymoving hit with another force, with corruptors added to the mix to finish the game.
22:44 GMT (+00:00): Heart 1 - 0 Socke. Heart showed he had a strong standard TvP game as well, using drops to pick apart Socke after a regular rax FE.
22:42 GMT (+00:00): PartinG 1 - 0 Rain. Shakuras with PartinG @ 7 Rain @ 5. Rain did the 1-1-1 variant with a hellion drop to start, but diddn't do enough damage. PartinG had 2 colossus by the time the attack came and he held on by keeping colossus alive.
22:32 GMT (+00:00): Socke vs Heart starting, and PartinG vs Rain
22:30 GMT (+00:00): viOlet 1 - 0 Kawaii. Daybreak Violet @ left Kawaii @ right. Violet played with typical violet aggressiveness, and ram mutas, lings, and banelings down Kawaii's throat until he had no army.
22:30 GMT (+00:00): MC vs Crazymoving begins!
22:28 GMT (+00:00): Off-stream update: TheStC defeated Rain 2 - 1 in Group D.
22:15 GMT (+00:00): JYP 2 - 1 DeMusliM. After taking some damage from JYP's early pressure, DeMusliM tried to push the advantage while he had stim and medivacs, and JYP didn't have late game tech. However, JYP was able to hold out fine, and once he had upgraded gateway units and templar tech, it was all over for DeMusliM.
22:00 GMT (+00:00): DeMusliM 1 -1 JYP. DeMusliM fought off JYP's 2 base colossus timing with good positioning, managing to go up three bases to two in the process. DeMusliM then leveraged this economic advantage for a win in a drawn out game.
21:51 GMT (+00:00): Off-stream update: HuK defeated KawaiiRice 2 - 0.
21:51 GMT (+00:00): SaSe 2 - 0 ThorZaIN. SaSe hacked apart ThorZaIN's 1/1/1 with extreme ease, closing out the series.
21:41 GMT (+00:00): CrazyMoving 0 - 2 GanZi. Metalopolis, GanZi @ 3 CrazyMoving @ 9. GanZi kept CrazyMoving scattered around the map, tattered Zerg army never had enough to contest GanZi's third or fourth and GanZi won war of attrition.
21:39 GMT (+00:00):Oz 0 - 2 aLive Tal'Darim Oz @ 2 aLive @ 10. Typical long PvT on Tal'Darim, aLive weathered the storm of high templars and kept the Protoss army small enough to deal with. Micro'd well in battles and won.
21:38 GMT (+00:00): JYP 1 - 0 DeMusliM, SaSe 1 - 0 ThorZaIN. In two games on the same map, with the same races, at the same positions, eerily similar games occurred: In a macro war on Entombed Valley, the Protoss player was able to secure his bases safely and put together a perfect deathball which the Terran player was unable to deal with.
21:25 GMT (+00:00): CrazyMoving 0 - 1 GanZi. Dual Sight CrazyMoving @ left GanZi @ right. GanZi pushed up through center while dropping the main before CrazyMoving had enough fungals to deal with it.
21:24 GMT (+00:00): Heart defeats viOLet 2 - 1 off air.
21:19 GMT (+00:00): Demuslim vs JYP, and Ganzi vs Crazymoving begin! And ThorZaIN vs SaSe soon.
21:18 GMT (+00:00): Oz 0 - 1 aLive Antiga with Oz @ 5 and aLive @ 10. They split the map and bashed armies into one another repeatedly for half an hour. Alive came out ahead in the later battles with some nice EMPs.
21:00 GMT (+00:00): KawaiiRice defeated Socke 2 - 0.
20:57 GMT (+00:00): Oz vs aLive starting. Antiga with Oz @ 5 and aLive @ 10.
20:40 GMT (+00:00): Oz 2 - 1 Rain. Finally, the two played a relatively normal macro game. Rain was unable to deal with Oz's templar well enough, and lost the series.
20:31 GMT (+00:00): Off-stream result: MKP 2 - 0 Crazymoving.
20:28 GMT (+00:00): DRG 2 - 0 Ostojiy. Shakuras DRG @ 5 Ostojiy @ 10. DRG 6 pooled and made an offensive spine. DRG kills all but 2 lings with his initial attack, Ostojiy concedes when the second round came in.
20:27 GMT (+00:00): Oz 1 - 1 Rain. Rain tried a marine-marauder-hellion attack early, but Oz defended his 1-gate expansion with relative ease. It was a simple affair for Oz to ride that advantage to a win.
20:26 GMT (+00:00): Parting 2 - 1 aLive. Tal'Darim PartinG @ 7 aLive @ 10. aLive opened 3rax, then expanded immediately. PartinG 1 gate nex into 5gate pressure and killed him with his first army.
20:24 GMT (+00:00): Some off-stream results from @MLGSC2Scores. JYP defeats HayprO 2-0 in Group B, while TLO defeats Machine in the losers bracket.
20:22 GMT (+00:00): DRG 1 - 0 Ostojiy. Dual Sight, DRG @ left Ostojiy @ right. Ostojiy tried to open with roaches, DRG went for ling baneling play and got too big of an advantage for Ostojiy to overcome.
20:20 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 2 - 0 MC. MC tried to cut some corners after faking two base pressure, taking his third base with a skeleton force. ThorZaIN managed to exploit this with an attack before MC had storm or zealot legs, destroying the third base and taking a big lead. ThorZaIN played it slow and safe from there, and later defeated MC in an decisive engagement, using a carpeting of EMPs.
08:17 GMT (+00:00): Parting 1 - 1 aLive. Entombed Valley, PartinG @ 7 aLive @ 2. 1 gate expo vs 1-1-1, cloaked banshee first variant. Alive has too many banshees and PartinG can't stop the push.
20:15 GMT (+00:00): Ostojiy vs DRG begins.
20:14 GMT (+00:00): Rain 1 - 0 Oz. Rain used a heavy marine follow-up after a fast expansion, and was able to do a lot of damage after Oz messed up his defense with force fields. Oz struggled to overcome this initial disadvantage all game, but was eventually overrun.
20:11 GMT (+00:00): Parting 1 - 0 aLive. Metalopolis, PartinG @ 6 aLive @ 9. Game started with 3 gate immortal vs 2 rax expand. There was a long period of 1 base vs 1 base play, and when they finally expanded aLive harassed a lot with drops. Alive couldn't stop PartinG's third base however, went all-in with SCVs and couldn't kill PartinG's main army.
20:04 GMT (+00:00): Oz vs Rain begins!
20:02 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 1 - 0 MC. ThorZaIN went for a cloak banshee 1/1/1 while MC went for a void ray all-in. The end result was all of MC's probes dying, while ThorZaIN held off the MC's attack fairly well.
20:01 GMT (+00:00): Heart 2 - 1 HUK. Entombed Valley HuK @ 2 Heart @ 10. Heart 1-1-1ed again, against HuK's proxy 4 gate. 1 base vs 1 base play for a long time, HuK finally expanded and lost when Heart pushed out with tanks, banshees, and marines.
19:59 GMT (+00:00): Off air, Rain defeats Grubby 2 - 1.
19:54 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN vs MC begins, while PartiNG vs aLive is also under way.
19:49 GMT (+00:00): Some non-stream (how??) game results from @MLGSC2Scores. Ganzi 2 - 0 ThorZaIN, and DeMusliM 2 - 1 Ostojiy.
19:46 GMT (+00:00): Heart 1 - 1 HUK. Antiga HuK @ 10 Heart @ 5. Heart opened 2 rax but couldn't put on much pressure, tried to move into drops which also didn't do enough damage. HuK moved out with big colossus and gateway army and won.
19:34 GMT (+00:00): Heart 1 - 0 HUK. Metal, HuK @ 6 Heart @ 12. Heart 1-1-1ed, the first attack came to a standstill but round 2 with more SCVs busted through.
19:34 GMT (+00:00): aLive 2 - 0 TheStC. A long marine-tank battle on Daybreak saw both players trade armies, go for backdoors, and swap population leads many times. However, aLive was more efficient in later exchanges, and eventually rolled a small advantage into a win.
19:30 GMT (+00:00): MC vs ThorZaIN coming up :O
19:27 GMT (+00:00): Ret 2 - 0 KawaiiRice. Antiga Ret @ 7 Kawaii @ 2. Ret made a lot of bases, and Kawaii couldn't stop him before he got a huge army of broodlords. Ret plows through the Terran army.
19:25 GMT (+00:00): NaNiwa 2 - 0 JYP. Both players opted for blink stalkers and robotics to begin with, but NaNiwa switched to colossi first. JYP got stuck in a situation where it was too late to try and catch up on colossi, and found himself making more and more blink stalkers while being unable to really do much. Though he forced NaNiwa to chase him around the map for a while, he eventually fell to the colossi ball.
19:24 GMT (+00:00): HuK vs Heart started!
19:11 GMT (+00:00): And it's time for TheStC vs aLive!!! TheStC starts down 0 - 1, because he was late. According to @sullyrabbit "STC went to get his jacket bc he was cold and was late - starts out 0-1 against alive TT"
19:08 GMT (+00:00): KawaiiRice 0 - 1 Ret. Ret macrod up and got to broodlords without much trouble, Kawaii couldn't handle the late game assault between fungal and broodlings.
19:06 GMT (+00:00): NaNiwa 1 - 0 JYP. JYP went for a fast expand with a robo, while NaNiwa went for a one base colossus build. NaNiwa had no trouble taking down JYP before his expansion kicked in.
18:59 GMT (+00:00): And Nani vs JYP begins as well.
18:54 GMT (+00:00): Ret vs KawaiiRice begins!
18:42 GMT (+00:00): SaSe 0 - 2 CrazyMoving. Shakuras SaSe @ 10 CrazyMoving @ 5. SaSe started with gateway and void ray pressure, but didn't do enough damage and CrazyMoving won by countering with a nydus network into SaSe's main.
18:36 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 2 - 1 BlinG. Devastating EMPs from ThorZaIN allowed him to crush BlinG's gateway unit + templar army with his first major attack, winning him the series and putting him in pool play.
18:25 GMT (+00:00): SaSe 0 - 1 CrazyMoving. SaSe got an early third, then the game went to a familiar blink stalker vs muta dance with SaSe sprinkling in DT. When the stalkers went after the fourth it triggered a base trade CrazyMoving won.
18:21 GMT (+00:00): Heart defeated ddoro 2 - 0, also making it into pool play.
18:13 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 1 - 1 BlinG. ThorZaIN managed to beat back BlinG's 2 base timing attack and counter attack for a victory.
18:12 GMT (+00:00): SaSe vs CrazyMoving starting, Daybreak SaSe @ left CrazyMoving @ right.
18:08 GMT (+00:00): Rain 2 - 1 Symbol. Rain went for a strong two base push against Symbol, first with blue flame hellions, and then with a heavy marine-tank push. Symbol couldn't keep up with the pressure, and eventually cracked.
18:00 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 1 - 2 Ostojiy. Tal'Darim PuMa @ 5 Ostojiy @ 10. Ostojiy baneling busts and tears through PuMa.
17:58 GMT (+00:00): BlinG 1 - 0 ThorZaIN. The game went super long between the two renowned vP and vT players, and they both got to show their late game chops. After several inconclusive trades during the game, ThorZaIN made the final mistake by allowing his army to become cornered as he hunted expansions, and was slaughtered by psi-storms and a twenty-zealot warp in.
17:52 GMT (+00:00): JYP 2 - 0 IdrA. Shakuras JYP @ 7 IdrA @ 2. JYP got to 3 bases off the back of some void ray harass, IdrA went for mutaling again and died after comitting to an attack against a stalker and colossus army.
16:50 GMT (+00:00): The first set of Winners Round 6 victors are in!
Crazymoving 2 - 0 SeleCT
KawaiiRice 2 - 0 Sheth
aLive 2 - 0 Minigun
16:48 GMT (+00:00): Symbol 1 - 1 Rain. In a reverse of the first game, Rain went for a greedy fast expansion and welcomed Symbol to play a long macro game against him. However, this proved to be Symbol's forte more than Rain's, and his relentless expanding and good use of hive units overwhelmed Rain in the end.
16:40 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 1 - 1 Ostojiy. Dual Sight PuMa @ left Ostojiy @ right. PuMa crept out and denied expansions with marine tank and ostojiy could never make enough units to properly flank.
17:35 GMT (+00:00): BlinG vs ThorZaIN begins.
17:33 GMT (+00:00): PuMa vs Ostojiy starting on Dual Sight. PuMa @ left Ostojiy @ right.
17:32 GMT (+00:00): JYP 1 - 0 IdrA. Idra stopped early gate pressure easily but when he transitioned into muta vs stalker he lost the initiative, and infestors were far too late to save him.
17:30 GMT (+00:00): As if he suddenly remembered who he was playing, Symbol starts scouting for proxy barracks.
17:22 GMT (+00:00): Rain 1 - 0 Symbol. Rain channeled the spirits that allowed him to once be a GSL finalist, performing a marine-scv bunker rush, followed by a 4-rax marine-scv rush to take the first game.
17:15 GMT (+00:00): Rain vs Symbol, IdrA vs JYP in progress!
17:09 GMT (+00:00): Off stream update from WR5: Crazmoving 2 - 1 Illusion, Ostojiy 2 - 1 Golden, SeleCT 2 - 0 Axslav, Ddoro 2 - 1 Glon.
17:07 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 2 - 0 NonY. ThorZaIN played a patient half map game against NonY on Shakuras, slowly spooning his opponent to death.
16:56 GMT (+00:00): Another off-stream update from winners round 5: Bling 2 - 1 Goswser
16:55 GMT (+00:00): JYP vs IdrA coming up on mainstream, so it seems??
16:46 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 2 - 0 dde. dde tormented PuMa's SCVs all game, taking down over sixty during its course. However, PuMa persevered and waited, building up a huge army and waiting for a chance to turn the tables. All it took was one poorly engagement from dde, where his tanks were caught sieging far too late, without the support of point defense drones, for PuMa to maul dde's army and take the game.
16:46 GMT (+00:00): ThorZaIN 1 - 0 NonY. NonY went for a tricky blink-stalker harass into expansion build, but ThorZaIN held off the harassment with ease. ThorZaIN then followed with a counter-attack before NonY had enough defenses, winning the game.
16:40 GMT (+00:00): Heart 2 - 0 Inori. This time Heart expanded after 2 rax, and harassed in the front and back with drops constantly. After being annoying for a while, he killed Inori's first 2 colossus with vikings and killed him with marines and marauders.
16:38 GMT (+00:00): And NonY vs ThorZaIN begins on gameplay stream 3. TSL2 champion vs TSL3 champion!
16:26 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 1 - 0 dde. After a few harassment exchanges, dde went for an ill-advised push that PuMa surrounded and crushed easily. dde could not recover from this army loss, and PuMa was able to simply counter and win the game.
16:24 GMT (+00:00): Heart 1 - 0 Inori. Heart 1-1-1'd against Inori's 1 gate expand. Inori had 2 colossus for the push but they tied to tank fire before killing enough marines and Heart ran over him.
16:19 GMT (+00:00):Symbol 2 - 1 Killer. Symbol laid on the pressure with a roach attack against Killer's forge FE, but Killer held his ground. However, Symbol had an even deadlier follow-up, using nydus worms and hydralisks to destroy Killer from the inside out.
16:13 GMT (+00:00): Some more winners round five results, off the air: KawaiiRiceLight 2 - 0 GosuWbc, aLive walkover Artist
16:02 GMT (+00:00): Symbol 1 - 1 Killer. Killer FE'd with stargate and tried to secure a third, but Symbol's use of zerglings, and then hydralisks made it a losing plan. Killer eventually did secure his third, but lost too many units and wasted too much time in the process. Symbol expanded freely, and was able to easily overwhelm Killer later.
15:59 GMT (+00:00): Update from open bracket winners round 5:
Minigun 2 2 - 1 RuFF
Rain 2 - 0 Drewbie
JYP 2 - 1 State
15:54 GMT (+00:00): Sheth 2 – 0 Polt. Sheth made sure to keep Polt off balance on Antiga Shipyard, using drops and burrowed infestor tactics to deal damage while taking the his crucial fourth and fifth bases. This put him a good position despite inevitably giving Polt control of the center, and he was able to overpower Polt with a medley of hive units.
15:51 GMT (+00:00): Idra 2 - 0 Jinro. They both took a lot of bases and maxed out again, Idra's broodlords and infestors overran Jinro in the end.
15:39 GMT (+00:00): Killer 1 - 0 Symbol. Killer rarely ventured outside the borders of his base for most of the game, content to slowly take bases and only move out when he had deadly army. This approach worked out perfectly, as Symbol spent most of the game on the offensive without making any real dent. Eventually, Killer moved out with a giant army, and due to good control on his part, and perhaps some sloppy micro on Symbol's part, he easily crushed a large ultralisk/broodlord/infestor army to win the game.
15:33 GMT (+00:00): Idra 1 - 0 Jinro. Both played extremely passively, and after they each had 4 bases Idra's maxed out army beat Jinro's.
15:32 GMT (+00:00): Sheth 1 - 0 Polt. In a crazy back and forth war on Daybreak, Sheth barely managed to come out ahead and defeat Polt. The early phase of the game saw Sheth take a nice lead with a simultaneous defense + backstab attack, but Polt patiently turtled and macroed his way back into an even situation. At various times, Polt looked to be ahead as his forces went around the map killing off Sheth's expansions, but Sheth managed to keep rebuilding bases while getting together a powerful hive tech army. Eventually, Sheth was able to use his brood lords and infestors to destroy Polt's bases while securing enough of his own, forcing Polt to GG.
15:23 GMT (+00:00): And we join Killer vs Symbol midway on Daybreak, gameplay stream 3.
15:13 GMT (+00:00): And abruptly, Polt vs Sheth comes on on gameplay stream 1, Jinro vs IdrA on gameplay 2.
15:06 GMT (+00:00): From what we can tell right now, looks like Jinro vs IdrA coming up on gameplay 2, and Symbol vs Killer on gameplay 3.
14:38 GMT (+00:00): Mmhmm

Losers Round Two
Socke vs PuMa
- Game One: Antiga, PuMa @ 7 Socke @ 2. Socke got to 3 bases on the back of gateway units, and then quickly teched to both templar and colossus. PuMa was unable to do damage with drops in the midgame and rolled over to the lategame Protoss army.
- Game Two: Entombed Valley, Socke @ 7 Socke @ 2. Socke proxied a robo after expanding but can't kill PuMa with his attack. The game went long but PuMa's held his lead and killed with a big marine and marauder army.

ThorZaIN vs Golden
- Game One: Antiga, ThorZaIN @ 12, Golden @ 6. ThorZaIN tried to play his patient spoon style on Antiga Shipyard, but Golden showed he was a great late game player as well. Golden committed to protecting his brood lords with infestors and a huge corruptor contingent, and ThorZaIN simply could not break that force.
- Game Two: Shakuras, ThorZaIN @ top right, Golden @ top left. ThorZaIN's creeping tank push reached Golden's territory before the Korean Zerg had enough the tech or army to hold it off effectively, and ThorZaIN was able to keep pushing for the win.

- ThorZaIN 1 – 2 Golden
Polt vs Ostojiy
- Game One: Antiga, Polt @ 6, Ostojiy @ 12. Polt played a textbook Antiga game, denying his opponent a fourth base while abusing the low mobility of brood lords. Polt remained mostly unscathed throughout the game, while Ostojiy was slowly worn down.
- Game Two: Dual Sight, Polt @ right, Ostojiy @ left. A one base hellion - banshee build was enough for Polt to advance to the next round.

JYP got stuck in a situation where it was too late to try and catch up on colossi, and found himself making more and more blink stalkers while being unable to really do much. - aLive 2 - 0 TheStC
Oz vs RaiN
- Game One: Entombed, Rain @ top right, Oz @ bottom right. Rain used a heavy marine follow-up after a fast expansion, and was able to do a lot of damage after Oz messed up his defense with force fields. Oz struggled to overcome this initial disadvantage all game, but was eventually overrun.
- Game Two: Antiga, Rain @ 6, Oz @ 12. Rain tried a marine-marauder-hellion attack early, but Oz defended his 1-gate expansion with relative ease. It was a simple affair for Oz to ride that advantage to a win.

Bling vs ThorZaIN
- Game One: Antiga, ThorZaIN @ 6, BlinG @ 12. The game went super long between the two renowned vP and vT players, and they both got to show their late game chops. - Game Two: Entombed, ThorZaIN @ top right, bling @ bottom right. ThorZaIN managed to beat back BlinG's 2 base timing attack and counter attack for a victory.
- Game Three: Tal'Darim, Thorzain @ bottom left, Bling @ bottom right. Devastating EMPs from ThorZaIN allowed him to crush BlinG's gateway unit + templar army with his first major attack, winning him the series and putting him in pool play.

Killer vs Symbol
- Game One: Daybreak, Killer @ right, Symbol @ left. Killer rarely ventured outside the borders of his base for most of the game, content to slowly take bases and only move out when he had deadly army. Killer eventually did secure his third, but lost too many units and wasted too much time in the process. Symbol expanded freely, and was able to easily overwhelm Killer later.
- Game Three: Tal'Darim Altar, Killer @ bottom left, Symbol @ bottom right. Symbol laid on the pressure with a roach attack against Killer's forge FE, but Killer held his ground. However, Symbol had an even deadlier follow-up, using nydus worms and hydralisks to destroy Killer from the inside out.

Polt vs Sheth
- Game One: Daybreak, Polt @ left, Sheth @ right. In a crazy back and forth war on Daybreak, Sheth barely managed to come out ahead and defeat Polt.
- Game Two: Antiga Shipyard, Sheth @ 9, Polt @ 3.
- Polt 0 - 2 Sheth
IdrA vs Jinro
- Game One: Both played extremely passively, and after they each had 4 bases Idra's maxed out army beat Jinro's.

- Game Two: Daybreak, Puma @ left, dde @ right. dde tormented PuMa's SCVs all game, taking down over sixty during its course. However, PuMa persevered and waited, building up a huge army and waiting for a chance to turn the tables. All it took was one poorly engagement from dde, where his tanks were caught sieging far too late, without the support of point defense drones, for PuMa to maul dde's army and take the game.
- PuMa 1 - 0 dde
