I was a victim of that. As a regular "high"-diamond player I found myself not getting the viewers I wanted to (but then again, don't we all). I figure since I'm one of so many, the chances of me getting more then 5+ viewers would be rare.
So I put my stream on Facebook, the Starcraft group in my area (604Starcraft <3), Skype, told my friends to watch...I ended up having 7 viewers on my Sunday stream! Woo! So exciting, isn't it. Of course, no one was in chat, all were guests, and they were probably just bored. They left after a win, which I'm not surprised they left, because (A) I wasn't "good" at the game, (B) I wasn't commentating, and (C) Why watch this stream when a pro player's is on?
So I was talking to my friends last night (the only two who were watching me stream) and then an idea hit me -> EMBARASSMENT.
I figure if I embarrass myself in front of everyone, I would get more viewers. Holy crap, I'm so stupid LOL. I decided to end up having this chart:
5 viewers = commentary (if people want, i doubts lol)
10 viewers = i'll do a build by majority on stream chat (any cheese with any race)
20 viewers = i'll sing a song or hum to an instrumental
30 viewers = hear me sing japanese/korean (LOL)
50 viewers = doing a dance (um, right)
100 viewers = tour of house (coo)
Apparently k-pop is big in my group of friends...so them hearing me sing k-pop (which I can't, I'm Chinese and I JUST STARTED KPOP LIKE, A MONTH AGO..) was gold. I'm usually the geek that's always talking about Starcraft (and them, League of Legends) and they're like, wtf.
So my friends start gathering around. They WANT me to stream. They WANT me to play Starcraft. So I'm like, "hey, whatever, 30 viewers, like THAT's ever possible. I'll just play Starcraft, as usual, with my friends watching"
So I go home at around 4:00 (take the bus home from 3) and that's when I started my stream.
5 minutes in -> 5 viewers.
"Wow, already? Snap...I don't want to sing"
5 minutes later -> Denied protoss expansion on xel'nega, he contains me on base with FF
10 viewers.
"wow, double digits, first time, woo! at least I won't get to 30 any time soon"
....
17 viewers? omggggggggg
26 VIEWERS? PLEASE NO PLEASE NO
5 viewers "Whew...thank goodness -whew"
...
...
"THEY'RE BACKKKK"
26 viewers
As you can probably tell, this was really making me nervous. I can't speak Korean OR Japanese and I was suppose to sing to one of those songs (I have em, I don't understand em, but it's catchy, you know?) and I'm like..."FINE LETS GET THIS OVER WITH"
Fast forward a bit -> TvZ on Shattered Temple.
"YO YOU GOT 30 VIEWERS ITS TIME TO SING" - friend on Skype
"wat i no believe you. tell them to talk on chat"
On my other monitor: People talking on my stream chat. "SING"
Me: *facepalm*
me
I'm like, "okay, whatever...I'll sing Japanese first, I know the song a better better."
I then sing Rolling Star from Bleach...horribly...you know...stream quality and stuff, yeah. righttt.
I was laughing though, out of chills and nervousness because it's really cold here in Vancouver now D:
I then win the game due to some epic marine control (loljk) while everyone on my stream was watching. I dropped to around 28 but I still had a decent lot of viewers...
Friend: "hey everyone wants to hear you sing k-pop"
Me: "get more people"
-Tal'Darim Altar, cross positions, TvZ- (i obviously lose lol)
Friend: "YO 37 VIEWERS TIME FOR YOU TO SING GEE"
Me: "really. ._."
I figure it's all in good fun, so I sing the song (like a boss), then I look into the chat....turns out my mom and uncle were watching from work and commenting and I'm like "LOL"
I had 37 viewers...and then as soon as the song FINISHES (not while DURING) I HAVE 5 viewers left. Everyone was just wanting to hear me sing awesomness. That is freakin hilarious LOL.
yeap, I originally wanted to stream another hour but everyone already left, I got tired from singing, and my mom was talking to me on Facebook telling me "not bad :D" and stuff, keke. It was really funny, the aftermath.
Friend: "wow you got balls LOL"
Other friends: basically the same thing with more lols
Cousin (university): "LOL"
Cousin's friend: [hey you were watching (le me)?]: " AHAHHAHAHAA I JUST DID LOLOLOL"
My mom told me my uncle was laughing really, really, really, really hard with the KAKAKAKAKAKHAKAHKAHKAH laugh.
Yep, overall this experience has taught me various things:
1. Posting your stream on Facebook with family members added = awkward moments
2. Most of my friends like to see you embarrass yourself, and not your interests
3. I should turn on the lights when it's dark
4. I can't sing (well, derp)
