I've never really known what the avg dpi / mouse sensitivity was, but i feel like mine is kind of far above avg (after going to a lan and seeing how far people move their hand to move their mouse).
My concern is that because it is so high I will never be able to achieve the level of precision that say IdrA has. I play at 1800 dpi, (23 inch ish monitor 1920 x 1080 settings) 71% in game sensitivity, Windows settings are set to 1 to the right of the middle setting (so instead of 6 out of 11 it's at 7). No enhanced pointer precision. Also, my scroll speed is at about 96% lol.
As I said I have no clue what is average but i feel like mine is pretty high. Should I tone it down a bit? What I like about my settings is that my multitasking/ apm is very fast, about 125 new-sc2 apm at the end of a long game.. but my precision does lack occasionally compared to someone like idra (for example, sometimes I'll have to click twice to get my probe back on a mineral field, rare though)
So yeah.. what are your mouse settings at / what's your skill level / do you think I should tone mine down a bit?

2k dpi same monitor, same res, 80% ingame sensitivity, windows 7/11.
Never really struggled with precision, game in masters league. Think its probably high compared to your avg gamer but not by much. I like the very sensitive side a lot.
EDIT: Spelling.

rule no 1: 1:1 settings, means 6/11 windows & ~53% in sc2 rule no 2: use what you feel good with. if you feel like you can handle all well and just need to improve then stick with it. if you cant and feel like the mouse is a problem for you then test other settings. i play at 3.3l dpi at 1680x1050, friend whos also masters cant do shit with my settings. so outside of pixelskipping etc its all down to how YOU fell about it.
if you can control it well then It's fine. If you see your going to far then lower it. I play on 800 dpi with 56% ingame sensitivity. Its kind of low because i use to play fps and have a big mousepad to move with.
you'll get used to it eventually dw, i'm diamond 1800 dpi, 100% in game sentivity
if you like it, keep it if you feel it's messing you up change it
If you can't accurately do what you need to do (like selecting individual units) with a reasonable amount of practice time then you're using too high of a sensitivity. My recommendation is to start at 6 for windows mouse settings and scale your mouse sensitivity up on sc2 until you can mouse your mouse across the screen diagonally comfortably without struggling. What constitutes moving it across the screen without struggling depends on whether you're a low, avg, or high sens gamer but in this way you should have found whats most comfortable (and accurate) for you to use. Don't force yourself to use something you're not comfortable with if its clearly not working for you.

is there such a thing as too far above average? If you can control it, it feels good, and you have precision that's all that matters. when i got my first "gaming" mouse, i set it to 1200 dpi, once it felt slow i made it higher little by little.
I run at 1920x1080, 22.5inch monitor, 32inch tv, and my mouse is at 0% mouse acceleration and 3000 DPI.
I can control it fine, it feels great, i have no issues. I dont think there is a "too far" so long as you can control it without a problem.
And besides, if you enjoy your sensitivity high - its hilarious when someone else uses your computer, grabs your mouse, and cant click anything lol. i get a kick out of it every time. I have the in-game sensitivity off (cuz they have that option now :D), when it wasn't off i had it at like 54% or something.
If your precision is lacking and you cant control the speed turn it down, if its fine and your comfortable with it, keep it. Just because you are not as precise as someone like Idra, doesn't mean its the mouse and the settings.. it can very well be that he is just better at controlling a mouse than you, just like some people can shoot a gun with more accuracy.
and i would turn the windows sensitivity to 6, and change your mouse speed through drivers or the in-game slider aswell =o

i wouldn't say its above average, I know lz, Artosis, and incontrol have ridiculously high mouse sensitivitys, as do others like Nada, Kawaiirice, Moonan, and many others just from seeing them play on like a featured station at MLG, they barely mvoe their mice and zip around all over the place.
It sounds like your have more numbers than you know what to do with. Just put it at a comfortable level and leave it...don't worry about what's "average" or whatever...
Post above me is correct. There is no "correct" mouse sens, only the ones which you are the most comfortable with!
Personally use a deathadder on 1800 dpi and 52% ingame sens
I play at 6/11 and 1800dpi. Had some problems with precision but then I set different dpis for x and y axis and it's all good now.
One goodway to try/train your precision is pressing shift and trying to select all your workers into same group in the starting minutes of the game. You can come from different angles and click on them in different orders.
6/11 windows - 1600dpi. Get that good blood flow. But I mean you can play with a lot higher, its doable.
if you have a problems with percision why not you lower your game sensitivity ?.
I use all 5600 DPI, and Windows-default, 50% for Starcraft. There was a thread about changing the speed was skipping pixels or something...? I play pretty good at this, not too fast, not too slow, took around 2 days to get use to though.
Who cares about what's average. Stick with what you're comfortable and efficient with.
6/11 windows, 55% in game, 1800 dpi, 1920x1080
Everything I found said you MUST put windows at 6/11, no pointer precision/acceleration, and 51-55% in game. After that it's usually preference with regards to DPI and other settings.
It all depends on the person.
I personally use: 7/11 Windows ~80% SC2 2000 DPI Razer Orochi 1920x1080 24" Monitor Enhanced off
6/11 windows 61% SC2 1000 DPI Logitech G500 1080p 23" monitor
I've never had any problems with this stuff. I always set my ingame stuff to 100%. I set my mouse to the 2000dpi and off I go. I also put the weights in my mouse so it's heavy. I have a g9
