Anyways, a while back Xxio started doing interviews with TeamLiquid luminaries. The “Community Interview” highlighted TeamLiquidians who give so much to our little community but aren’t lauded like Day[9] or Tastosis. I idly read Sayle’s interview just because he was such a personality.
Later as I started trolling the Brood War forum, just to get a taste of the scene, I stumbled upon this awesome post named English Proleague Commentary! And there it was; Saylebw on YouTube and later his blip.tv account? Oh my god.
Sayle drew me in because he just because he is a fanboy who loves the game: Someone who genuinely gets excited when he sees a storm drop or a plague hit. Oh, and even though he does English commentary? I still get to hear STORMMMM or PLAGUEUUUUUU. As per most fanboys, he’s also incredibly dedicated. I actually didn’t write this up as fast as I wanted to because of the copyright issues that nevake and Sayle ran into on YouTube. But instead of being defeated, Sayle switched from YouTube to blip.tv and soldiered on.
Sayle educated me in tons of Brood War build order knowledge, pro-gamer history, and all the little things. Like during Best versus Crazy-Hydra when he explained how hydralisks do less damage versus zealots because of the damage type versus armor type. Or during Action versus Bisu where we were informed of Action’s little micro trick (that it takes 3 hits from zealot to kill one zergling). And how about the little fun fact about scourge micro in the same game?
This guy is a fucking riot...again during Best versus Crazy-Hydra, as the camera cut to the audience and we saw SeltzerPlease, he decided to come up with a new game. “Guys, instead of me casting, we’re gonna play this game called name the white girl.” LOL. And of course I had to watch this at work so my co-workers were not happy.
But best of all, all the casts are Brood War-noob friendly. He’s exactly what I wanted: bridging the gap between StarCraft2 and Brood War. Readers please, if you find yourself in my former position, please check out Sayle. Since I’ve started watching him, I find myself watching more and more Proleague. And isn’t that what it’s all about?
Edit: Sayle has been interviewed in the Week 3 write up for SPL! Please check it out if you read this post for a more indepth glimpse of Sayle and show him some love.
