For some reason I kept wondering if they had had their tetanus shots while I watched that video, especially when they put down the needle things and laid on them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanus For the most part it's pretty rare, but since these people may or may not be poor and since they probably do this for a living, there is a good chance they'll contract it. An interesting statistic:
Mortality rates reported vary from 48% to 73% And since they're in India it's probably closer to 73%

Watched the whole thing, it's pretty obvious that they probably underwent a lot of conditioning when preparing their bodies for that stuff. Also, when you're getting hit by something, if you have the chance to tighten your chest to prepare for the oncoming hit, its not as bad.
Not to say that shit isn't super brutal and crazy, but they certainly prepared quite a bit. Definitely fits under a "do not try this at home" thing since the average person would break many bones and get impaled by a few nails by this sort of shit.

I've seen a lot of these feats of strength and endurance kind of things and the blood really isn't all that out of the ordinary, nor is it particularly worrisome. They expect it to happen and plan accordingly. Seriously though, these are some of the most badass guys I've ever seen. If you know how to distribute a blow like that correctly, the human body can do some pretty amazing stuff and take an incredible amount of punishment with little or no permanent damage. They aren't just hitting themselves and each other with stuff. They are very precisely controlling the contraction strength and speed of their various muscle groups to redistribute the force in order to minimize damage. Its not something new but it takes a lot of training to learn to do it correctly and it takes an equally large amount of training to learn how to how to apply that force in a way that will cause the least damage. Its an incredible example of what can be achieved through self-discipline and it is most definitely a form of potentially beautiful and astounding art.

That was pure and continuous insanity. I don't even know what the fuck I just saw.

Hhahahaha, what the fuck was that?
Those guys are freaking crazy, I would probably never do something like that.

Man, I had the opposite thought. I thought it looked like a total clusterfuck, with guys waving off "stunts" midway through and putting their arms up for defense from unexpected (or unwanted) strikes.
I thought it looked like a bunch of meatheads who think breaking stuff and getting hurt in the process makes them look tough. I'm not sure where the "talent" here is. Hardly anything seems to go according to plan and when it does, they suffer the same sort of injuries that anyone else would. I don't even.
I spent a lot of time in India. The total clusterfuck of the way this was staged does not surprise me.

Wow...real life Chuck Norrises.

What I loved was how the camera kept switching over to the female judges horrified reaction, rofl. Other than that, it was fairly... weird. Almost painful to watch at some points, so much self-inflicted pain.

SIKH representing!!!
(No, I don't got the balls to do the crazy shit these guys do)
holy shit wtf did I just see?
|
This act requires an amazing amount of preperation and skill IMO. These guys know exactly what they are doing...That was totally crazy and amazing!

Mm, so you spent a lotta time in India, and therefore you aren't surprised about the apparent and seeming disorganisation of the show? I dont see why you feel the need to generalize an entire nation, just cos of a show?

Some of these stunts aren't actually all that impressive. If you put somehing heavy on your chest and hit it with a sledge-hammer you won't get hurt because of the inertia of the thing on your chest, rather the hammer will bounce back. Our professor even did it in class and he's probably a total pansy. But still quite impressive overall. I especially liked the horrified look on the female judge's face and the tower of neon tubes.

Honestly, the part that finished it off for me that just made this the funniest thing ever was when the car was driven over him, and then out of nowhere, the motorcycle.

Basically, some extreme situation where I'd be forced to take part in an act like this, take your pick. :p

This isn't my usual piece of entertainment. A lot of things nowadays just make me feel confused. Actually I am confused to whether I should feel confused. Confused...
