It seems a bit more odd to me you were trying to give the guide a negative stigma :/ its illegal and tl.net does not allow you to post links to illegal downloads. so, yes, i do find it odd that you would start a beginner's guide by linking to a place to steal the game. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=112137#1 btw, the reason iccup.tv is no longer called iccup for sc2 is because blizzard does not in fact agree with what they did with sc1. i could link you to hundreds of posts where people complain that sc2 doesnt have lan support. any idea why there is no lan support?

You don't know anything about the sc1 scene do you. Almost all servers that were ever competitive (going back to 2001) were 2nd hand servers. or illegal as you call them. The fact that I think nobody condones to download it illegally. The fact is we want people to buy the battlechest (which is less than $20) we want people to support sc1. We know a lot of people don't want to spend the money. So we link to where you can download the game.

Almost everyone, Korean pros, Foreign pros, TL, etc, everything was on ICCUP. The Brood War scene was based around it. TL condones against pirating, I'm sure they do, and I know you've mentioned that, but not enough to be against ICCUP. every pro who has played on ICCUP has probably used or downloaded it from there before. Blizzard has also supported some small ICCUP league before at the beginning of 2010 if i remember correctly, even if thats just the private server, and I know you're not making claims on that but it is illegal too, it still implies to people to go on their website, and people can still download off it sorry if its rambly or whatever >.< Also to add to this. TSL2 and from what I gather TSL1 were both ran on iccup

TSL2 and from what I gather TSL1 were both ran on iccup this will be my last post on the matter. the point of the thread is to bring more people into the sc1 scene (i.e., a beginner's guide); this is also apparent from the new clan the op is making for that purpose. i just found it odd that someone would try to promote sc1 by linking to an illegal version of sc1. because, obviously, if you want to promote the sc1 scene your first order of business is to make sure the developer of the game loses money and has no reason to continue to support the game (e.g., patches). i am not sure why you guys turned this into a me vs. iccup discussion. i have no qualms with iccup; i only have a problem with the link to a pirated version of the game. nevertheless, tl.net can decide for itself whether to continue to allow a link to an illegal version of the game. their site, their rules. if they want to allow the link, that's their decision.

The developers have already stopped supporting this game. They've moved on to SC2. The last balance patch SC:BW had was 2001. The last patch SC:BW had was early 2009. Unlike the SC2 scene, SC:BW really doesn't need the support of Blizzard to survive. It just needs Blizzard's indifference. This fact doesn't seem to be well known or intuitive in the SC2 community though. And I agree, it's the TL mods' decisions to allow it or not. The fact that they haven't asked for a change or shut down the thread should signal something to you.

It sucks that he came here and derailed the thread really fast, it only harms the purpose of the thread to keep arguing. C'mon, let's bring more people into BW.

It is Starcraft. #2 Isn't that how everything goes in life? I'm pretty sure your entire persona is stolen from somewhere. #3 That makes it not odd.

Windows 7 needs a fix explorer.exe fucks with the colors on Brood War, and will make everything discolored and harder to see. Here's how to fix it: 1. Open Notepad 2. Type in (remove the quotation marks) "taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 rem Wait for the game to quit, press Enter to continue pause start explorer.exe exit" 3. save as StarCraft.bat This this will start up a command prompt window that will kill explorer.exe, and when you want to start explorer.exe up again you just click on the window and hit any key. There's one floating around on iccup that automatically starts up the iccup launcher, but I use both Minilauncher and Iccup so this is what I use, and supplement it with my Rocketdock, because it doesn't get closed out with explorer.exe
