I just entered facebook to see this link shared. I'm sorry it is in German, so the majority won't get it. This blog post is from a famous host of the MTV show GameOne. In his post he is relating to a piece of footage shown on the German tv station RTL.
The RTL footage was about this years GamesCom in Cologne and depicted gamers in general as stinking freaks, with no live, no girlfriends and just being the worst scum there is. The broadcast in question had a German model visit the GamesCom and get asked her opinion about various visitors the RTL crew interviewed. Oddly enough the picked just they nerdiest people around and made one snide comment after the other.
I feel sick and ashamed that Germany is producing this bullshit.
In case you're interested to investigate and see the footage use the keywords "rtl explosiv" and "gamescom" on youtube. That'll be enough. But expect a lot of banned videos, RTL seems not to like their footage being put to criticism.
youtube deleted all these videos, despite some of them are mirror inverted. i always thought mirror inverted videos couldn't be deleted due to a copyright infringement claim.
hahaha just found this in a comment below the article you posted. you might recognize her
@Jacen That's right, but let's face it, a big part of the German speaking folks keep watching RTL, Pro7 and the like. This leads to a pretty biased way of thinking if they take the stuff RTL spits out for real.
RTL is for people who either are or want to become brain dead, don't take it too seriously. They are just sensationalists, who figure "Gamers smell and have no girlfriends." is easier to sell to the German amoeba population than something more intelligent. (A black or test screen.)

A big part is also reading the "Bild", so who cares?
Media is media, they never care about what they write about or what they film, they just want viewers. Talking bad about things gets viewers, so they'll keep doing it and that won't change in the next 50 years. They don't know what they are talking about, so do it like you should do it with forum trolls (which are suprisingly similar): Ignore them.

it is RTL - what do you guys expect? It is a trash TV station (DSDS, fake talk- and courtshows, Bauer sucht Frau (farmer looking for wife) ...) and aims for as many views as possible. Of course they dont show a neutral and for the masses "boring" piece, but serve stereotypes. I saw the Video and it totally fits RTL, it is trash. Budis blog was the right response.
edit: sadly RTL has a huge range and in this years first quarter RTL had the highest market share (even beating ARD, Germanys biggest public TV Station)

You know private stations gain shares relatively but lose watchers absolute for quite some time. Thats the reason for all these "Teenager werden Mütter", "Saturday Night Live" and "Willkommen im Gemeindebau" (sorry, 2 Austrian shows there, but you know what i mean). They are desperately trying to polarize their audience to generate some relevance for themselfs that really isn't there.
Due to rating restrictions only viewable after 10pm CEST.
So it's not ALL bad.
the problem with that show was that they showed no SC2 at all. But instead we got Fifa, Trackmania and CS:S. Probably the 3 titles that have the lowest viewer numbers compared to HoN, LoL, SC2 , Dota 2
yeah chill out, you develop an immunity to these shows when you played counter-strike for 10 years and every year there is that time where people talk about those bad bad shooters and whoever plays them is going to rape prostitutes and hitting them with baseball bats because that's happening in all those video games all the time. Or kill your whole fucking school because that's obviously on everyone's mind when you just can't beat that Blobby Volley AI
it's simple for me right now: ZDF aired the ESL.... smart people will watch ZDF rather than RTL whoever prefers RTL over ANYthing is simply not worth talking to

it's a thing on youtube so some videos won't get removed as quickly. I think maybe?? to trick some software that is being used to recognize copyrighted stuff maybe?

It's more than most tv stations in europe can do. Also Sc2 Dota and Hon are much harder to "jump into" for a broader audience. You just have to accept that. I bet you if they would have showed SC2, you would have argued that they didn't cast right because they explain to much.

People are dumb and mirror videos vertically wrongly believing they can fool the content algorithm of youtube. Of course mirrored videos still are being detected and promptly deleted based upon copyright claims.

To circumvent copyrights violation the user mirrors a video with an video editor so its technically not a copyroighted video anymore since the original was changed. If you watch the video you can see names and text on the bottom is mirrored.
If aliens would land on on this planet they'd be like .. damn that Diablo game looks awesome and damn your chicks are ugly. On our planet we have females with 5 vaginas and they excrete a substance into the air that gets you so high all the time. But seriously I have almost all german television channels listed by probability of finding something good to watch and RTL is around 23rd spot. First is 3sat. Also the organizers of the event should have predicted the fact that it can get hot under those costumes and spare some extra coolness i mean air conditioners. And if you're going to hire models, make sure they can relate with the folk and not be stuck-up bitches. And don't hate the moderator of the show .. she is doing it for the money and had her fair share of sucking cock to get there. It's the Marketing bosses and ex-BWL students with rich parents who now occupy the elite corporate ladder positions who hate their life and have to make other look miserable in order to compensate for a tiny penis.
People who watch RTL or stuff like Pro7 and RTL II are just dumb...That report was a total disgrace and it does not reflect the real picture of the gaming community as well as the Gamescom event. I personally just watch ARD, ZDF, WDR and 3sat (all of these are pivate tv broadcasting channels), because they mostly broadcast shows which show reports objectively.
@HuerHang I think you've got that wrong. ARD, ZDF and WDR at least are the public channels we got. They get financed by our monthly fees. I agree with you that the report was a disgrace and that it doesn't reflect the reality.
I just wish there would be more shows like ESL Tv and GameOne on a broader scale. GiGa was fine too.
@CounterStrike I feel like bad reports on CS are getting out of style. I'm seeing less and less of these. But I remember the heated discussions all the time, and coming from a background of Unreal Tournament I always felt highly sympathetic to our CS communities.
