TL Mafia is the best part of TL.
I had like 100 posts or something on TL until 4 months ago when I discovered the TL Mafia sub-forum. I have been less productive in everything since then.
This game is amazing and it breeds very interesting social relations. I think more people should check this out, as long as they're willing to dedicate themselves to playing this.
I'm not one of those artist-y type, so I'm not going to write you an epic piece of music, but here you go guys, a group picture of the TL Mafia gang. Sorry to everyone I didn't know well enough to represent, and sorry if you don't like your representation.

i've wanted to get into mafia, but I can't find any guide that explain it from the ground up. All of the guides that are linked to are pretty much just added knowledge on top of the basic game. Or am I just not looking hard enough?

The basic game is really simple, like I can explain it in one post, this is pasted at the start of every mafia game:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
There are two teams. One of the team is town, the other is mafia.
The town generally outnumbers mafia greatly, but the mafia knows each other's identity and may communicate privately.
The game has two phases, a day phase and a night phase.
Day phase consists of everyone in the game discussing who they should kill at the end of the day. The objective is to find out who is mafia, and kill that person. Every member of town has one vote, and can vote for whoever they want to see dead. The person with the most votes get killed, (or lynched, in mafia terms) at the end of the day. His alignment then becomes apparent to everyone.
Night phase consists of the mafia plotting to kill members of the town. Depending on the size of the game the mafia may have one or more night kills. When night ends, the player(s) mafia decided to kill will die and their alignment revealed.
Then the game continues until either there are no mafia left (they've all been lynched), or the mafia outnumber the remaining town, and thus the town can't gain majority to lynch mafia.
It's that simple! And yet it's the most complicated thing you'll try!
