Lecaf Oz Changes Name to Hwaseung Progame Team
From January 31st, Lecaf Oz is changing its name to Hwaseung Oz.
'Lecaf Oz' which was created by sponsoring the "Plus" gameteam back in March of 2006. Since then, it has become a reknowned game team by winning the Shinhan Bank Proleague (2nd half) in 2007 and the Grand Finals.
The name change occured because Lecaf wanted to increase its advertisement capacity and territory of influence. The idea is to improve Hwaseung image brand image in products from not only Lecaf but K Swiss, Murrel (not sure of the exact spelling) as well.
Hwaseung Inc.'s representative, Lee Gye Joo, has said "Through this name change, the Oz gameteam will become an even greater marketing communication channel for Hwaseung instead of Lecaf", and "I believe that the members of the team will be able to have more pride and loyalty to the team" and revealed the reason for the name change.
On the other hand, Hwaseung will have various fan events in light of the change in team name. First, on January 13st (Sat), they will give out custom-made cheering instruments for the fans that come to the Hero Center in Moon-Rae Dong. On the gameteam home page, fans will be able to interact with new sections, such as "Dart game", "How I became a Hwaseung Fan", and "Dinner with the players" to provide events to celebrate the name change.

+1, I am just happy that it looks like Hwaseung still values their pro-team sponsorship as an advertising tool. Oz's future looks pretty secure, all things considered.
I just read in the Economist that South Korea's economy shrunk by over 5% in 4Q2008...that's ridiculous. Hang tight, Korea!

I doubt anyone not fluent in korean would be able to pronounce the new name correctly.
They'll probably pronounce it Hway-sung, just like how they butcher Hwasin's ID.

Can you please let me know how to correctly pronounce both of these (Hwaseung, Hwasin)?
Edit: and note that you probably could have devoted your post to remedying these pronunciation problems, rather than just berating people for them.

damnit. Lecaf was one of the easier names to say, now, like Woonjing, we will have no idea how to pronounce/spell/shorten down, a teams name. hurrah...

....or you could just say "the Stars" or "Oz"...
Also, it's Woongjin. Come on, man. And people have been shortening it "WJ" for months now.

Huh. Well I guess we can still call it Oz.
On a sidenote, I wonder what Hwaseung actually means, because in Chinese it means peanut :p
