Okay, so my current PC specs are this
Intel i5 3500K
geforce GTX 560
8Gb 1600 ram
750watt psu
Basically, my friend plugged in a space heater into my power strip and it tripped the circuit. After we fixed that and rebooted my computer will load, but cannot complete even the simplest of processes. I cant even get the computer to open task manager it is moving so slowly.
If i right click the desktop it takes at least 30 seconds to load the dialogue box and needless to say I am completely unable to open a program
I have tried restarting multiple times and changing my OC settings on my motherboard to no avail.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Some notes - yes it DOES boot up, I cannot open programs, or at least I havent waited the hour or so for them to open yet. My DMW.exe (the desktop background + icons) likes to stop responding every few seconds
Explorer.exe seems to be lagging as well.

Can you reset cmos, or go into bios and reset to optimized default settings? Does stuff run fine outside of windows? (in bios)

BIOS runs completely fine. I have tried optimized default settings. Windows still refuses to run reliably well enough\
EDIT: Apparently Startup repair decided that it would like to run

Did the CPU heatsink fall off and not have good contact?
I don't know what else to suggest other than "install windows again and see if it works" sadly

I dunno maybe your ram is fucked up? Or your harddrive got messed up? Though I would assume both of those would show other things as well.

I just honestly can't imagine what could have caused this problem.
Also everything inside the PC is safe and sound. just opened it up and checked.

Are there extra things running on startup? Don't know what this would have to do with your circuit going off but it's about the only thing I can guess.

You could try checking your RAM.

Electronics are sensitive to power fluctuations and you mentioned your circuit tripped so the power outage would be the cause of the problem. It could be corrupt file(s), damaged component(s), or something else entirely. It's why you should use a UPS for your computer and other electronics.
If repairing windows does not work and you have already cleared CMOS along with reseating the RAM then the next easiest step would be to test the boot drive in another computer.

This is probably true. Time to reformat.
I heard in school that when this happens usually you will get a bsod when you load windows because of a corrupt filesystem. It's kinda lucky that it didn't mess up the boot sector. Hopefully you can pull off files you need. For personal reference.. was it an SSD or HDD?

If you open an admin command prompt, this command should repair all Windows files:
sfc /scannow

Its actually been bluescreening. I have a feeling what FoxShine said was correct. The power outage caused my HDD to corrupt.

For any people who have a similar issue with your PC lagging so much after a power outage, check your ram! Reinstall it, and maybe replug your PSU cable to be safe. My computer is working back to normal after doing this

I guess you should just unplug your RAM at first and than plug it in once again, turn PC on and see if there is any changes.

Re-seating everything, replacing thermal paste and blowing compressed air to clear the dust bunnies will do wonders. Try to do it a couple times a year.
