Samsung KHAN, once fallen to 5th place, has climbed back up to 2nd. Though they’ve played fewer matches than the other teams, once they did start playing they marched to three straight victories. The revived protoss line in particular is buoying Samsung above a 60% win rate.
Samsung Khan’s Stork and RorO, who helped sweep Team 8 3-0, wondered how their team got so good. RorO felt bad about beating his old teammate BaBy with early game shenanigans, but said, “We’re all just trying to pay the bills. I hope he understands,” making everyone laugh.
Q: It seems like it’s been a while for you two to win
Stork: Our team’s played fewer matches and we had that long break, so it really did feel like we hadn’t played in forever. Thankfully, because the match didn’t drag on and the builds played to my advantage, I won.
RorO: It’s my first match in a while, and my first victory in a while (laughs). It feels even better since our team won with a flawless 3-0.
Q: Your team had fallen to 5th place
Stork: Since we had fewer matches, our ranking kept moving depending on the other teams’ results. But because our ranking was out of our control, we’re thinking of this as the beginning. If we play well, we’ll keep winning, no?
Q: You guys would always win two games, but lose.
RorO: I kept wondering why we only did well at the beginnings. And the buff from our fast starts never lasted long. I couldn’t do anything because I kept losing. Since they were ZvZ losses, though, I didn’t get too frustrated or depressed.
Q: What race do you want to avoid facing?
Stork: Of course I dislike mirrors. But since I kept coming out on Jade, except for the terran matchups, I kept losing, to zergs. So I was hoping not to meet a zerg. I was confident against protoss since I had a build prepared.
Q: Was it because you didn’t want to face Jaedong?
Stork: To be honest, I wasn’t exactly itching to face him (laughs). But watching their match against Woongjin Stars, I felt cheated. He plays like that against other teams, but he unleashes his true skill against us. I guess it’s fun to watch those games, but it seems like he’s particularly good against our team – especially me. I wish he’d go easy on us.
RorO: I wish he’d make those kinds of mistakes against me. I feel like he always plays better against me (laughs).
Q: What would happen if you blocked half your units at your choke
Stork: It would be a disaster (laughs). Protoss units can never get through chokes anyway (laughs). I felt sorry for Flying. He must’ve been trying so hard… My family and Flying’s know each other so I want him to do well. I hope he uses the game as a learning experience and gets better.
Q: You faced off against your ex-teammate BaBy
RorO: We all ate from the same table at WeMade FOX, and I was a bit uncomfortable when I heard I’d be facing BaBy. But, because he knows me so well, I thought my strategy might work. I usually like management games, so I didn’t think he’d expect an all-in.
Q: You used a dark templar strategy for once.
Stork: I learn a lot of builds from watching SKT tosses. Best often uses dark templars in mirrors, so I figured they might be the latest trend and tried it. It’s not bad (laughs).
Q: Last words.
Stork: I saw our standings after the match and wondered if we’d ever been this good. We’d always done well and collapsed in the second round, but this time, since it’s only three rounds, we’re already halfway to the end (laughs).
RorO: I feel bad for using a despicable strategy against BaBy, but I’ve got to make a living, too. It was hard to not get sent out, or always lose. Everyone must’ve been looking forward to seeing the transfer players face off so I feel really bad for BaBy. When I meet an old teammate, for some reason it feels like a desperate all-in (laughs).
