Due to the popularity of the Tribes Ascend Thread and the competitive nature of TL I thought I would inform everyone about an open tournament in a difficult yet entertaining game. The tournament sign ups are open to everyone, and the previous 2 have had players who never played prior to the tournament enter and have a blast in doing so. Matches are streamed live and vods posted afterwards.
Tribes 2 itself is a futuristic sci fi fps that features freedom of movement through a mechanic known as "skiing". All this does is enter your character into a frictionless state, and through use of a jetpack and terrain you can move pretty quick. The majority of competition (including this tournament) and pub play is in the game type Capture the Flag. Whichever team either reaches the capout limit (normally 8) or has more captures than the other at the end of the time period (30 minutes) wins. Players play various positions and teamwork is crucial to success.
The game features three armor types, light, medium, and heavy. Heavier armors allow access to heavier weapons and more health at the cost of manuverability and to a certain extent, speed.
If you're interested in playing in the tournament you'll need to first follow the instructions in that thread, and also download the game (FREE) at http://www.tribesnext.com/ Goonhaven is the only server that regularly has people playing in it.

It's really too bad there doesn't seem to be populated euro servers. I too used to play in ancient times, and trying out Ascend only made me want to pick this up again. But alas, I cannot be bothered to try and relearn the game at 150ms.

Nothing good interpolate settings can't fix :D. Besides, you can always farm or cap, neither of those positions require a low ping.
As one of the admins of these tourneys. I really hope we can get some more players to participate. They really are a lot of fun, plus the game is free and awesome.
