Effective immediately compLexity Gaming is announcing that we have parted ways with Steven “Destiny” Bonnell.

Due to the fact we so recently announced him as a coL.SC2 player, we feel obligated to explain to the coL Community what took place. Mr. Bonnell was invited to join compLexity as part of the ROOT acquisition. He agreed and on June 11, 2011 executed a legally binding contract with our organization. Then, despite being fully aware of what would be expected of him, he decided that he didn’t want to be part of a “big organization.” He refused to honor any of the terms in the contract.

This behavior left us in a difficult position as a management team. Despite Mr. Bonnell’s agreement to exercise solid judgment and professionalism in his trade, some of the polarizing opinions being expressed on his stream were in direct opposition the values compLexity has stood for since 2003. This behavior made our decision clear and Mr. Bonnell has been released from any and all contractual obligations. We apologize to our fans for this situation but strongly believe this is in the best interests of everyone involved. We wish him the best for the future.

Sorry, I don't want to start any drama or anything, so here's my quip of the story

TL:DR : I signed the contract, I broke the contact, that's a pretty douche move.

Basically there'd been talks of ROOT/Complexity merging for a while, to relieve stress from catz/drewbie, which is cool, it gives them more time to play, etc...

One day, I got a message pretty much saying "hey, that contract is due tonight, you gotta sign it today". I pretty much had half a day to decide whether or not to sign, and it seemed like if I didn't sign, the deal would fall through for the rest of the team. I didn't want to mess up everyone's opportunities to move on with their career just because I felt uncomfortable, and there was nothing -too- objectionable in the contract, so I signed it.

In the following days, I had more time to think about it, and the more I turned it over in my head, the more problems I found with the arrangement, and the more reasons I found not to be associated with a major business SC2 team, at least not at this moment in time. I talked a long time to Catz, and had a few words with Jason, and eventually settled on the conclusion that I wouldn't actually be joining.

I can assure you that I have personally spoken with Steven over the past week. I sincerely wanted him to remain on the team but we were given no real option. He refused to participate with the team. Also, it was our full intention on allowing him to speak his mind on his stream but within certain boundaries of professionalism.

I spoke with him personally before this was released and he knew it was coming.

I think he's a good guy but it just didn't work out at this time. I wish him the very best in the future.

new free agent on the market. quite the roster mix ups we've had the past couple weeks. do you think anyone will want to pick up destiny despite his popular out spoken personality? could it actually be hurting him instead of helping him?

I KNEW THIS WAS COMING i posted it in his fanclub like a week ago... he seemed to have hated the coL idea.

as far as Destiny goes... yeah, he's a good player. He's not amazing, but he's good. I honestly think that until he posts some more consistently placing tourney results, not many teams will show interest in him. He is VERY outspoken and is sort of the anti-establishment personality in the pro community. Any teams that would even consider him have to accept that he doesn't like sponsorships or endorsements for any products that he personally doesn't like.

I understand I'll get hate for this, but I think he will remain a free agent for some time to come.

No team will want Destiny - he can't be trusted to honour contracts or promote a good image for the team.

My gut says if anyone picks him up, it'll be sixjax. They picked up major despite his bad reputation. Sad news if you ask me. I was really happy to see him on complexity and it seemed like his training was going quite well.

Part of me wants to be surprised this happened. But honestly I think it might be tough for him to get another opportunity just like this one.

this translates to me as a refusal to do normal team stuff like blog, post on site etc.. am I wrong?

In any regard I like destiny >_< wish he'd value community/teams more though.. he could grow as a player!

I hope he finds another team soon, he has been rapidly improving as a legitimate tournament competitor in addition to his stream antics.

Too bad, he could of flourished as a player regardless of him being part of a 'big' organization. Well, I guess he knows what is best for him.

Hopefully he'll join a team as laid back as he is, and he'll continue to play for the crowds
Try another route paperboy.

I saw him totally leave a team practice in favor of playing ladder games! Couldn't say I didn't see it coming.

What did Destiny say on stream? O_o Nice though that a talented player is available for pickup from other teams.

it's not like he's winning anything

he's bombed out very early of two open tournaments in a row now, so i'm not sure why anyone regards this player as valuable. other players players typically touted as "bad" would cruise through the first 4 or 5 rounds of any open bracket with ease.
