Hello All. There is a new #1 on Blizzards NA top 200. I haven't heard anything about this player. Does anyone know anything about him besides that fact that he plays loads of games?
Has anyone faced him/met him at a tournament/event?
I have heard alot of rumors that this player is Day[9] and im fairly certain it is not him. Day[9] does not have nearly enough time to ladder this much while still creating dailies, casting tournaments, being a student, working on his thesis, etc etc. So knowing that I would like to know if anyone knows more about him. From the little I've gathered so far he has been known to cheese and leave without GGing
Ive watched a replay or tow and it doesnt seem as he does anything remarkably well just is a consistent Protoss but again that was only a couple of games I have seen. Does anyone run into him often on the ladders?
Just curiosity getting the best of me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know who the mystery man who dethroned SelecT is :-D
From rumors i've heard, I believe he is an ex-WC3 player possible Night Elf player? I heard he doesn't have an interest in competitive SC2 either which is weird for someone who plays so much.
He's a great player with solid micro and mechanics. He refuses to join a team because he works 40+ hours a week... kinda odd considering I think he's the best protoss on NA.
Hmm interesting thanks for all the input guys. Im not even close to that good but Im very interested in the competitive scene and I had nver heard about him . But i guess if he only ladders then I wouldnt have really heard or seen much of him.
I don't think it's Day9, I was watching a replay of FXOSheth vs. Katari and it seems Katari speaks in a sort of broken English. Now if it was Day9 he could be fooling us, but I think it's more likely that he's just a person who ladders a lot for fun.

I don't understand why people keep thinking anyone can get to #1 on ladder if they just mass games and spend bonus pool. Almost everyone high up on the ladder has spent their bonus pool. He's not the best player in the world but you do have to be pretty good to get up there.
Also you can't compare him to piqliq or combat-ex. Katari actually talks - I've been able to get custom games with him, whereas I don't think I've ever seen piqliq say a word. And combat-ex does play in tournaments, he placed 2nd in the toronto lan a few weeks ago.

Well, damn, you shut me down. Haha. I don't mean to say that they're not good players. They're very good, in fact. That's what I meant by 'play consistently'; I meant that they play consistently WELL.
And true, Katari has talked to me before as well. Wasn't aware Combat-EX played at LANs though T_T
i will disagree with idra being best NA player, there is only 2 players i have losing recs against sc2 beta... and idra i did well vs. tbh, he has major flaws in his game vs. early aggression and cheese
Cauthonluck is the only terran mirror i have a losing rec in, and its completely one sided
But the other one is a protoss, Katari (ghostridah from war3 to the old schools). I'm like 12-17 or so vs. katari, maybe its cause we played a lot against eachother in TFT early days and my playstyle is basically the same in sc2, but he has my number most of the time.
I would have to say those 2 for sure.. Katari is the only toss i really lose to, i have positive recs vs. nony/capoch as well huk. Theres no good zerg other than idra really tho NA wise, that or terran was just op vs. em so i never noticed anyone good cause i never felt like i was trying. I dunno where smuft went though, he was by far the highest skilled player in beta for the first 2 months, then disappeared
so, if Nam is correct then Katari = ghostridah (an orc player from wc3)
Katari has been around since beta and he's really good. He just doesn't play in tournaments for whatever reason. And if what Richmand says about him being ghostridah from WC3, then I'd say he's legit.
