I thought i would share my method of larvae inject as I have not seen it posted this way yet. I use a universal hotkey for all queens. I have added w as an alternative to larvae inject. I have changed 5-8 to store camera position hotkeys as opposed to unit hotkeys. To inject i press 3w5 click 6w click 7w click.
Advantages: 1. can easily cycle throught bases to see if its time to inject. 2. queens do not have to be syncronized. 3. less actions then 55v click 66v click 77v click 4. do not have to skip past hatcheries without queens (backspace method).
Disadvantages: 1. not as fast as backspace method 2. less control of individual queens
Hope this helps someone.

I think it's a nice option as long as you know which location is where (which one would), since if one inject is already done, you don't need to go to it - the minor problem I get all the time using backspace is that 1-3 hatches could already be injected, and i'll need to hit Backspace that many extra times. No biggie for me though

I have done something along that lines, but i changed backspace to w like you, i changed v (inject) to e, so its very easy to shift e and tap w to cycle and inject with all the queens on shift command. My queens are hot keyed to 4 so its very nice. My creep spreading queens on 5 and hatcheries on 3. I have also given select larva a alternate hot key, its now s and d.
I'm sure this will help many of people. Its very organized and i spent many of hours practicing different layouts. Everyone uses what works for them i cant play with something not comfortable to me.

Thats true, it could be faster given that reason, but considering its not backspace its w, it shaves allot of time off rather then double tapping keys. I have all my injects timed so there at the same time. I also spread creep right after i inject every time. This helps improve my habit.
Creep is what every zerg should want to have allot of. I have tried every inject style unless someone just came out with one, i find this one i use now the most time saving. There is no right or wrong, just what we find works better for us.
Many pros spread creep that way and have timers in there head (Ret to name one (its not uncommon to inject all at once, In fact its common. Its a good way to learn not to miss injects)). Doing everything at once and having a organized step process will only help improve your overall macro and muscle memory.
To solve the queen meltdowns when cycling hatches i just press s. and continue to the next cycle. I always have a eye on the map so if i see a queen miss step, or no queen is near the next cycled hatch i know that i mistakenly clicked on a hatch without a queen beside it. If watched it becomes second nature and queen melt downs don't become a problem really at all.
This is just my theory, that has worked for me.
I hope this can prove helpful.

So you only use 123490 for buildings/units? If you have 3 or more hatcheries don't you have too few hotkeys for banelings, mutas, etc.? Just curious.
|
I rebound my camrea to base/hatchery key to a mouse button. i tap 4 (my queens), camera to hatch button, v click, camera to hatch button, click.
Over and over again. It's actually REALLY fast when you get used to it.
I use the MX518 from Logitec. any mouse with a thumb button though will work with this.
To clarify:
Tap 4, Mb5, v click, mb5, click, mb5, click....
|
I think this has the same effect as the backspace method earlier on. But in the lategame, when you have more hatcheries than queens, this does seem like a efficient way to inject.
|
I use ` as hot key group 0, so i gave ` 1 2 for units, ` is normally my harassment units, 2 army, 3 infestor or banelings upgrades are 6 or 7. r is melee, t is range, y is armor on evo.(depending on if i have infestors are not, i will hot key banelings to 6)
I don't shift inject until i get my macro hatch up early game. I Like to get a macro hatch before my third most of the time. So i will start to shift inject when i get 3-4 hatcheries. Until then i just tap 4 (queens) w (center hatchery) and e (inject)

@asdfjh: yeah, it's the backspace method, but instead of backspace it's, for me, mouse button five, which is my right thumb on my mouse hand.
It's done very very fast. The fun part is once all your injects are synced, you can tap mb5 and check your injects, then go back to whatever the hell else you were doing.
Also, since your using both hands, you take strain off your left hand to do other stuff as well.

I imagine all hatcheries are on the same hotkey as well.

I have given the f7 and f8 keys to my mouse back button and forward button so when i go to spread creep after the injects i can just tap 5 and center to the creep tumors, Alternate creep tumor button is r and c is still the main hot key.
I feel its a more, smoother button process, because its difficult to keep pressing the mouse button and left click at the same time, this is how i find it works for me though.
Also it frees up 2 map hot keys to spread creep faster.

Yes in my first post in the first paragraph i said all my hatcheries are hot keyed to 3

What's wrong with just doing this with F5~F8? They're even sectioned off from the rest of the F# hotkeys.

Nothing is wrong with it, I feel in my play its just in a inconvenient spot. I changed f5 - f8 to f1 - f4
With idle work as my scroll button on the mouse.
I don't know if you realize this but I'm not just changing the go to hot key, I'm also changing the make control group/spot hot key. So if it was shift + f5 to create and 5 to view, it is now shift+ mouse button, and mouse button to view.

.... Idle worker to scroll button on mouse.
That is genius.
This is why I come here, thank you!

I know it makes it a hell of allot easier to mass expand as zerg.
its no problem, i spent allot of time adjusting and trying out new ideas, it takes practice but can be well worth it.
Every change was well thought out, I am very happy to share my findings and hard work with all the other zergs in these dark times.

1. Shift + f1 f2 f3 f4 for saving camera locations. 2. Shift + 1 2 3 4 for reminder. 3. Hotkey 6 = all queens 4. Type 6 then v then shift and hold it 5. Type 1 then left click and repeat untill all ur hatches are injected. 6. ??? 7. Profit.
I really hate the backspace method because of 2 things : If you have more hatches than queens, some of them can travel accross the whole map just to do an inject, and you have less control over the bases. You can always save the others hotkeys for single queens or hatches in case you want to get on this particular base but meh, better use the camera locations.
This is my method. Helps a lot when you have 3+ bases and could save you 3 seconds for sure.

that is a good idea, but i find the shift + number command to important when cycling hatcheries. I Use it very often to add to the queens control group and hatcheries control group
From a earlier post further up i said this is how i deal with the Queens running all over the map:
To solve the queen meltdowns when cycling hatches i just tap queens hot key and press s. and continue to the next cycle. I always have a eye on the map so if i see a queen miss step, or no queen is near the next cycled hatch i know that i mistakenly clicked on a hatch without a queen beside it. I also, have gotten good at spotting a queen really fast while cycling, you have to slow down for a little bit and get used to it, i don't spam w and click. There is a pattern in the cycles it will cycle the hatcheries in the order they we're put up.
So if you are able to remember how many hatcheries you just put up or lost a queen on which hatch. To approach this, i mentally give every hatch a number, and w click that amount of times. It is very fast once you get used to it. After all why spam anything if its going to make you miss click and can easily be a game losing mistake in an important situation ?

For people who do not use the 5 queen, 6 queen, 7 queen, etc method.... how the hell do you micro your queens when hellions/reapers/banshee/void rays/etc come?
You manually go to each hatchery, grab each queen, fight with them in a ball, then send them all back? :/

i would use w to center the hatcheries, i would have 3 queens up in almost every situation considering all those harassments come when your on 2 bases,
I always have my queens all hot keyed to 4 so i simply just need to hit 4. to deal with it
You don't need to micro a single unit per hot key to be successful at micro.
if there all binned to one hot key you can simply pull away the weaker queen, and or transfuse.
After the engagement i will send all the queens to one hatch shift click a queen away in the group and send them to the next and repeat until there all assigned to there hatch again.

yea... what i do is hit space bar and then move it that way... thats only if im not watching my mini map usually with good spread i can see all this.
im trying the shift+1=5 shift+2=6
im trying to put all my queens on different hotkeys but it gets used to the reason for this is because then i would have to change a lot of my hot keys. it was brought to my attention of this following cycle: shift+1= 6 shift+2=7 shift+3=8 q=9 w=0 and setting main hatch to `(to the left of 1)
then setting the inject to "e" so it would look like this: !!E @@E ##E QQE WWE
although i can not claim credit for this thought because it was not my idea Decemvre gave me the idea about it....

that is a nice idea, to try and reach the 6-8 hot keys, i also changed them but not like that because i use the shift + control group allot to add to them, Instead i made a alternate hot key to make 6-9 control groups, i now use both ctrl + number or alt + number
