Theres been a severe lacking in some good strategy forum posts, so i decided to try and fix that. Ill be adding builds over the week. Just finished writing all this in an hr or two.

I'm going to be posting some builds i find interesting, innovative, fun to play, unusual , etc. Im not going into much depth with these builds. I'm just trying to highlight builds that not many know about or have experience with. I'll be linking to some threads on TL. Theres a lot of lost gems here. Feel free to ask me to go more in depth with these builds though, I'll try my best to answer them. (Im a Terran Player so im going to be sticking to terran builds for now) I strongly encourage people to post their own builds.


TvP Boxer's Dropship Push

Yes the real boxer, not some SC 1 Foxer. The TvP's that Boxer played before switching to SC2 were really innovative and something Ive never seen before.

The main focus around the build is a 2 base timing push with heavy dropship play. In order to supplement this, Boxer opens up 1 rax expand. He then transitions into 6 fact and increases his dropship count to 3. = 6 tanks.
The whole build revolves around the first drop of 6 tanks + 12 vultures. If it fails and gets shut time (Pusan vs Boxer) your in a horrible position as you just lost 6 tanks for nothing. If not, your in a great position to follow up with a second push while hes horribly out of position.

A build that can work in both TvZ and TvT. Its more popular in TvZ though. 9 Fact is pretty much the fastest possible factory without sacrificing all your economy. Your welcome to try a 5 fact though .

Followups range a lot depending on what you want to do. You can all in or transition into standard play. Only thing you cant do is transition right into mech as you want to proxy the first factory.

More of a opening and less of a build. Theres many ways to approach getting to this point. This style revolves heavily around gaining a lot of map control. Using a very mobile tank and vult force, you can hold map control and easily take your 3rd and transition. A strong transition is to switch into a heavy 9 factory push.

Came about during a period of time where Really was "really" into doing his medic blind opening on matchpoint. Since matchpoint is less open, theres 1 middle lane, really controlled it with a mine field and a single medic. Problem is, Really's build is really hard to execute since it requires constant multitasking and if you dont get the necessary blinds on, you start falling apart.

Light came up with a build thats a bit more flexible, but it worked a bit differently. Instead of medics, he used a dropship followed by a wraith + vessel combo. Even though it failed hard in all his games, there wasnt a huge problem with his build overall. It can transition into late game and timing push.

TvP Strong FD With a Twist.

Everyone should know what the strong fd is. Typically 7-8 marine + 2 tank push.


Heres where the twist comes in. The big problem with strong fd is that its limited to only pushing against no tech or observer openings. Reavers or dts both do a ton of damage to it. This fd instead gives you the same strength push but allows you to defend DT's.

A difficulty with pushing is you have to inch like a snail to your opponents base. If you open dropship play you can keep your opponent defending harass while you do a very quick but strong push right up to the nat.

My most reliable offrace ZvZ build is a +1 Zergling attack build. If they do anything but get 2 hatches, you can just tear through them so quick they won't have any drones by the time spire is done. The biggest problem with this build is that you really need to be close to them for it to work, and if you get scouted they're likley to overwhelm you with lings before you have time to make enough to defend.

once ovie finishes build 2 drones if its a big map (Luna), 1 drone or else none if he's scouted you already
You should have exactly 100 gas when evo finishes.

You take drones off gas (once you've started ling-speed) but the problem with this build is that you get a large amount of minerals and no gas (don't need lair, you can make spore colonies instead).

You can choose to expand (usually at around 15 supply you'll have 300 minerals).

Another problem is that since you're doing the build blind, you HAVE to get pool first. If you don't he can just over-run you with 9pool lings. It would be optimal to get hatch before pool (more lings but delayed +1 attack) since if you start another hatch by 15 supply it won't be finished before they have sunkens/lair.


Still really fun to do, it does great against 1-base lair (as long as they don't get fast lings).


Then again, you can always proxy-hatch like Zero

2 Gate +1 Speedlot timing, the new foundation of PvZ

I've been studying this build recently, from what I can tell so far the rough build is:

Forge FE (nexus/forge/cannon/gas/gate etc)
(depending on how you opened, some slight probe cuts may be recommended for a faster sair/tech)
Stargate
+1 weapon
Citadel
2nd Gate
Pump Zealots/Sairs (extremely important to not lose your sairs)
Leg Speed
Templar tech after about 5 zlots or so
Around 6-8 Zealots is when you should move out to attack. Your Leg speed will finish before the +1, but the +1 should finish right when you reach the enemy base. Zerg requires at least 2 sunks at each choke to defend. Don't throw away Zealots uselessly, so if they have 2+ sunkens/really good simcity you should back off and transition. If he has positioned his sunks in a position where he can maynard his drones through them to glitch your Zealots, probably also not a good idea to attack, but it can depend..

In the case where you don't dive into the simcity at your first stab, keep your Zealots around his expos, to glean whatever information you can get, and to see if any opportunities arise for you to rush in and do damage (like his Lings moving out of the way to allow you to go in and use the simcity against him)

A common followup to this seems to be getting 2 DTs to assert map control and fend off any sort of counterattack, which works well w/ the sair mass you accumalate. Add about 4 gates after moving out, totalling in 6 gates and pump Zealots and HT (to morph into archons). Army production takes precedence over probe production, so cut probes when necessary. GETTING THE SIX GATES IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, if you don't get those six gates you will probably die to a counter-attack.

[01/26/11] A somewhat recent development, recent games I've seem the Protoss start the +1 Air Weapons after putting down 2 more gates (for a 4 gate count).

When you move out for your timing attack, by attacking the Zerg you should be able to figure out what sort of army composition he is going for by the units you see defending the Zerg's expo. Reacting correctly is crucial.

Lurker eggs = Lurkers of course. build your Robo after 4 gates, then add 2 more for 6 gates and try to cut off Lurkers going to your base, or kill w/ Archon splash damage. Research goon range, make some goons etc (reference to Shine vs Bisu on Aztec)

Hydras = Mass Hydra. Get your gateway count up to 6 and use a Zealot/Archon army composition to fight off the army. If you try to cut corners and try to get away with four gates, you won't have the army to defend any sort of Hydra bust (Case in point, Kal vs Zero and Hyuk vs Movie). Get storm as quickly as possible. If you lost your initial Zealots and they're doing this followup, you better start add a couple of cannons at your nat..

Lings/Muta = A lot of lings, or a delayed Hydra Den are good indicators.You already have the Sair mass/Archons to easily deal with this, Just don't lose your sairs to scourge. Trap a probe behind your mineral line using pylons and hotkey it along with your sairs so they stack. [01/26/11] From a couple of games I've seen recently, it actually seems like you can get your third while still on four gates. In these games however, the Protoss did a considerable amount of damage w/ his Zealots though,

Take a third as quickly as possible after the 6 gates. In some cases, you can delay storm until after you take your third base, but only if you are confident your standing army can take on his until storm gets finshed.

I love this build. I turtle up with colonies until I get another upgrade (usually armor) and then run over my opponent. But then again, I'm a D+ zerg, what do I know.

This is a really great idea. It's really helpful for people who want to deviate from the standard every now and then, or just learn another build to solidify.
I should probably start suggesting protoss builds, since the OP could use a few of those...but the problem is I don't know any uncommon protoss builds. ~_~
