I did placement matches today since the beta was back up, I had been playing BW mostly so my Sc2 skills were a bit rusty. Last beta phase I was placed in Plat and worked my way to Diamond. This time around I got whooped by some guy in my 1st match then got 6 pooled in the rest no joke. So now I'm placed in Bronze and I got to scrub my way back to Diamond.

Now whenever I lose like this in SC2 I get way more frustrated than in BW, now tell me do you think it is more frustrating? and why?

I think it's way way less frustrating because it takes less time and effort to find a new game and there's a shorter buildup phase since you start with 6 workers.

cheese is always going to be a concern
people 4 pooled in star leagues aswell

be more careful in your placement matches.
dont try to do some early mass expansion macro game. focus on the early game more.

In the long run your true ladder ranking should come out. Everyone else will have to deal with the same things you're experiencing.

Were you good or bad at SC1?

Most likely it's tied into your perception of how good you are - you got into diamond and felt good about your SC2 ability. Now you lost, and it annoys you.

Perhaps you had either a less serious view of BW or were simply more aware of where you stood.

yeah placements are a touch harder right now cuz before u get matched w/ bronze/silver ppl, now u get ppl who are unranked (cuz there arent many people who placed currently) so who knows, you could be played top top diamond ppl in placement.

imo, sc2 makes you feel more frustrated Because there is a public ranking system, thus putting pressure on your amount of wins & losses.

At least you got placed... when i play a game its glitchd for me so it says "placement matches remaining -3" uhm i have no idea how to fix that.....

Newer game so it's going to be cheese from some people for a long time.

I think it's more frustrating because of excessive cheese and the faster pace.

same thing happened to me! it should go away after you do five, no matter what the broken counter says.

Ah Jinro name change, looks sexy.

As for Zerg 6 pooling, its way easier to deal with it in this game versus in Brood War.
Loosing to it probably makes you feel worse if thats the case. And the comment about the possibility of playing against a diamond and not knowing it. From my experience most diamond Zergs don't 6 pool, either that or they want to try and zoom through the prelims.

Then again I don't think I faced a Zerg in the placements today. They were all Protoss. Hm...

I know how you feel, I was 600 diamond and after the reset I got into gold and since I considered myself better I just wanted to climb as fast as possible causing me to play poorly or underestimating my enemies further agonizing me but I climbed slow and steady till phase 1 ended. However the ladder balance system is "LONG TERM" meaning keep on playing and after a while you will be where you would had been anyway. and I know beta closes in 2 weeks "tough luck"

Also it's pretty childish to say that this frustrates you were the one who screwed up and lost 5/5 matches was you and this thread is unnecessary imo because your post doesn't really discuss anything regarding sc2 compared to bw (If it had been called "Ladder Placement System" or "There should be a way to redo placement matches" it had been cool) to me: this is just you whining.

I don't find this more frustrating than in BW, cause in BW there's no placement matches at all and you always start at the bottom ;P

But yeah, I was genuinely annoyed when after last patch in phase 1 I went 2:3 in placement and got thrown into Bronze ~_~
I hope after release competition tightens up and leagues sort out themselves somehow, so being placed outside of Diamond wouldn't feel insulting as it is now.

There's also the cartoony element of BW, everything in sc2 in a sense looks "more serious", and perhaps will be taken more seriously :p

So..is there even a Diamond ladder now? I lost one game and was put into platinum, but I have a guy in my division who is 10-0 so I mean..why would he not be in Diamond?
