I've seen ppl buying "worthless" runes in our channel so I'll post my suggestions here about them.

You should buy 1 tier runes, but skip 2 tier ones all together. Also I would suggest not to buy champions with IP, at least not the expensive ones. Just buy Riot points if you need a specific champ... its a great game so why wouldn't you? You could tweak runes for specific champs ex. full crit dam book for shaco / trynd, but I don't think its worth it. Basicly you waste a lot of IP and with a full crit damage book and you are forced to play one champ only.


Caster champ:


marks. magic pen
seals: dodge
glyphs:magic pen / cd reduction / mana regen lvl
quints: flat hp

AD champ:

marks. armor pen
seals: dodge
glyphs: cd reduction / mana regen lvl
quints: flat hp / armor pen

Tank champ:


marks. armor pen
seals: dodge
glyphs: magic res lvl
quints: flat hp

The best thing with these setups that first of all they work with almost any champion and secondly you can easily swap and mix runes so you get a very good book with less IP.

I only run dodge on tanks since I find as a carry/caster magic burst is dealing the majority of dmg i take so i go hp/lvl just to help eat it a little bit.

Caster:
magic pen
hp/lvl
ap/lvl
flat ap quints, if im using support like soraka i run hp quints sometimes as well

carry:
armor pen
hp/lvl, magic resist
magicresist
armor pen quints, hp regen, hp
i mix up runes based on the carry but this is what i usually run. i dont main any carries really but i use sivir on occasion just for the sake of being able to play a higher tier champ when needed

tank: rammus/singed/nasus usually
armorpen/flat magicresist for singed
dodge
magicresist
hp, hpregen

I think dodge works better in more circumstances than hp/lvl. The most obvious example would be a pirates parley dodge. But both are good and have their uses. At least Furor runs ashe with dodge runes so I'll will trust him in this subject. P

Also ap/lvl won't work with all of the champs because of bad ap scaling. This is why I go with cd-reduction that works well with any champ type. But other than that I can agree with your choices.

What I use on ability power chars are magic pen red, hp/level yellow, mana reg/level blue, static hp quints. I can't really think of anything better. Dodge is so much worse than hp, and mana reg on blue really helps a lot laning and pushing.

The last thing about dodge: I'll point out that almost exclusively all top players in US server run dodge seals. Mana regen is decent, but you can't run it with Katarina, Mundo, Tryndamere.

Flat cdr in blue is okay on some heroes, but mana regen/lvl or magic resist/lvl are superior for most carries imo. Everything else is correct though, armor pen = highest dps, dodge = highest survivability.

For casters, magic pen, dodge, mana regen or cdr, flat hp quints is probably the best.

Movements Speed quintessences are also a option for everyone. Since the earlygame doesn´t snowball as much as it used to the overall (and irreplacable by items, boots don´t stack) advantage is worth a lot more mid and lategame.

Movespeed quints are meh I think, movespeed in this game soft caps at like 400 doesn't it? Then scales terribly up to like 450 where it scales even worse.

A lot of heroes actually don't reach 400, so it's not terrible, but I'd still opt for health, personally.

Certainly worth some thought if you're a melee hero that needs to close the gap, though, and you find yourself at sub-400 movement a lot.

(like Alist, would love to close the gap, and he is slow as hell. But that's also why people bring Ghost/Flash on him, so go figure)

movement in this game is awful in general since it doesnt win teamfights, which is why I seriously question anyone that buys boots of swiftness. mobility has its niche on characters like alistar/twitch, but you should generally buy sorc/tabi/treads. greaves are awful, plz do not ever buy.

on another note, ive decided to buy janna and show what she is capable of. first game 8-2-22. great support character.

movespeed quints would be better if they didn't cost so damn much, but iirc, they are one of the 2K quints. They scale better to the end game than flat HP quints, but the impact of + ~100 HP at level 1 seems better overall. That being said, if you do boots first builds with any champs, movespeed quints can have a pretty big impact early (with Pantheon, boots first + movespeed quints and a mastery setup that gives movespeed lets you start with 400+ movement, which can prove very useful in the laning stage of the game).

Yeah, swiftnesses are only useful for running away or switching lanes. But for switching lanes mobilities are better. And switching lanes is not something that you change your items for...
Only semi-good use of swiftness i can think of is on fiddle if you can't get ghost on him, but i still would rather take mercs in this case

I've got mobility a few times on twitch, and the move speed, while noticeable wasn't that big of a deal. Sure I caught up with people faster but anytime someone looked at me funny with a disable I sat there getting my shit pushed in if cleanse was on cool down, overall not a good experience.

Swiftness is 100% dumb, mobility is good for speed characters that need to zip around, like Zilean, Kayle, Janna, Shaco, and to an extent Twitch if you're going to secure map control for your teammates (for instance if you have a Jax, it's nice to be able to threaten lanes and force them to play safe, letting your Jax freefarm as best as possible).

Anyone here playing gangplank? I've been doing decently with him in solo queues but he just seems relatively useless in general (especially with the nerf) whether it be a crit oriented build, stacking auras, AP, etc.

Any tips or is he just more worthless than the rest?

Speed is huge. EVERY champion ALWAYS gets boots. Also it´s the reason Sivirs ult is good (Warwicks mapwide non-ultimate Attackspeed buff gives more attackspeed!).

Janna is a strange case since she is an awefull Support but with her aoe knockup, great mobility and Shield a decent carry.

It's not that speed is bad, it's just that it's 4.5% move speed vs 97 hp or 11.92 armor pen. There's just better options.

edit: New patch today apparently, skill shot healer carry oh boy.

dont get a huge movement buff (20%++) confused with a boot that adds almost nothing or movement quints. they literally change nothing and there are far more useful quints
