It's going to make it's money back and some more unless both foreign and domestic numbers nosedive this weekend. Which is a possibility but I don't think its a big one. In the month or a little longer it will be on lots of theaters globally I'd be surprised if it couldn't make it at least a little bit into the black.

Yeah because investing trillions into giants robots vs just investing heavily into basically beefing up weapons platforms to support bigger bunker busting type missiles to penetrate and blow up the monsters from the inside would be crazy. Coastal wall is stupid why not just dump tons high pressure cement down into the rift if you're going to build a wall. This movie is built on lack of common sense. Willful ignorance in order to achieve just masturbatory hot robot on monster action.

I got exactly what I wanted. Some of the most entertaining hours I've spent in a long time. Fuck yes.

Those Kaiju look like they were ripped off from some old Ultraman series/film monster. Though it was an enjoyable film. Just good old-fashioned robot-monster fights.

I am going to quote my post from before on the subject of the Wall: On July 19 2013 01:01 Plansix wrote: Of course not, it super stupid. It is a classic plot point for all anime "giant robot" movies and TV shows that their funding is cut when the fighting gets hard. It is always followed by "this new system will defend us without issue and make sure that no one gets hurt, unlike you reckless robot pilots". You can replace the wall with any of the following: Unmanned, computer controled robots Some automated point defense system A forcefield or bubble Peace talks that are clearly a trap Some sort of long range cannon that will kill the monster before it shows up And, as sure as the sun rises, the system fails and the scrappy group of pilots who still had faith in the robots they piloted rushes in and proves that the old systems are the best. Also, as some point the power and computers will be knocked out and only the older robot that wasn't upgraded will run at full power. This is all standard issue for Giant Robot action. The wall is a stupid idea. They knew that, which is why its in the movie. Point out it is stupid is just pointing out that the sky is blue.

This movie has more of the latter than it has of the former. That doesn't make it better, it makes it worse, even for that genre. Once again, the basic plot of the movie is totally flawed and dumb. A race that can open portals in time and space is attempting to invade our planet using a portal at the bottom of the ocean. This portal magically follows our planet as its spins around the sun and the sun spins around the galaxy. They use giant monsters to kill us, rather than just poisoning the ocean. Or just going anywhere else. In many ways, the giant wall across the coast is one of the least stupid parts of the movie. Logic and reason have no place here and never will.

If you hoped for realistic warfare, management crysis and a more techy savvy movie, you are in for a dissapointment.

The kanji wouldn't have any footing or leverage to attack it and they would just get bottled op. gg aliens. But seriously anyone have anything about the stick fighting? The first problem they'd have is the Category 5 Kaiju that is guarding it, though they'd probably deal with that baiting it out and nuking it or something. Also, how deep is the portal located anyway? I find that the film is kind of vague about that (good luck getting anything vaguely humanoid shaped to withstand the pressure at the bottom of the ocean lol).

How about the Kaiju that was somehow able to fly 10 miles up in the air on wings? If we are going to talk about shit that is fucking impossible, lets start there.

Of course the whole movie doesn't stand up to logic, but whatever. There's like 100 better ways they could have handled the Kaiju. Humanoid combat robots/machines are kinda impractical so it's already stretching logic to use them.

Just the basic physics of scaling; is impossible.
