Can someone explain the bo7 + ace format to me? In what cases would a ace match be necessary after a played out bo7?

I feel retarded.

EDIT: Or are you actually talking about what I would refer to as a bo6 + ace? Kinda like what SC2 proleague is right now (and probably before SC2 as well).

Summertime yo

This, basically. It sucks big time, but we're simply lacking in manpower atm (this was made painfully obvious during Summer Tour). Most of our members are either on vacation or working during the summer break - both of which are valid excuses of course, but at the end of the day the result is still that there aren't any cool SBWI events going on.

SBWI isn't dying though, so that's one thing you don't have to worry about.

On a related note, since we're only missing manpower, hit me up if you have a lot of time on your hands. Actively helping make events happen is probably the only guaranteed way to see more tournaments.

Yea we're all having vacations etc. We will probably have a meeting about the possibility of hosting the next team league as soon as the Swedish industrial vacation time ends. That will be around the 1st of September.

I conducted an interview with Jaevlaterran a few days ago for a write up I'm currently doing. He told me a bit more about SBWI's background - I figured some of you might be interested

Could you explain how the funding works? It sounds a bit hard to understand for aliens, especially for me as German. German press, media and politics consider video games more of a threat than actually a contribution to culture…

First of all Sweden is all into the national economic theory on social capital. Since organizations are a great way to improve social capital in a country the Swedish government funds some of them. What they fund mostly is 2 types of organizations: Either youth organizations or so called study circles. Study circles are a group of people who just meet up and study something together, such as let’s say knitting. They meet up, teach eachother how to knit etc. and just hang out. Then the gov will support this so they have money to buy coffe, fabrics or whatever, some cookies etc, but in my case it is that we study BW and use the money to support tours to study from. We meet up and watch BW, play BW. This, although we in practice are a youth organization still. The youth organization part derives from the fact that sweden had a lot of alcoholism back in the day and anything the will keep the kids away from the streets and “occupied” is good. However restrictions on non-drinking etc. doesn’t exist anymore. Nowadays it is mostly about young people learning how to organize things and have something to do, meet friends etc and the Swedish government funds this. [...]

Meeting 31st of August Stockholm Gärdets subway @ 14:00.
It will be possible to be on skype for the meeting, just add jaevlaterran on skype unless you already have.

We will mainly discuss
if we want to go in as Main sponsor of the ICCUP main event.
How we are going to run our clanleague to take the place of Gambits cup (organizing group etc.)
Review of how the SBWI Summer Tour went and how we could've made it better.
Other small tours to host within this year.
Checking out the progress of the website with report from our senior web designer.

Another note: Sonic is now aware we exist! He posted the picture of us during the last Brood Bar event on his facebook page (after snipealot told him about us). He also wrote in korean:

"A foreigner from the famous website team liquid sent me this picture. During the SSL8 final in Stockholm Sweden, starcraft1 loving fans watching (the broadcast) on a projector. They also made a poster, I will upload that next"

followed by tons of hilarious korean comments from his fans ofc.

I'd imagine that some of the comments were made about the inferiority of the setup compared to how Koreans enjoy their brud werz.

On the meeting we decided to do the following:

Go in as main sponsor for the ICCUP Main Event ($250 already transfered)
Organize a team league to take the place of Gambit's cup (with the help from additional sponsors and team fees: $1000)
Organize 2 smaller tours ($50 winner takes it all style)
Organize a LAN in Gothenburg to promote SBWI ($25+)

Awesome!

Team league is in dire need to keep the foreign scene alive.

We are not planning to transfer more as it is the amount we decided on. I just said "already transfered" because I transfered the day after we held the meeting.

I will be main organizer of the team league and I am hoping to get it started sometime around 1-2 months from now. Our smaller tours will fill the gap of time that it will take to organize the team league.
