Im hoping PVP will improve at level 50, but Im willing to give them some time to balance things out. Its nearly impossible to launch a balanced MMO pvp wise. I hope they devote some effort to world objectives and stuff, because there doesnt really seem to be a point to attacking various worlds (aside from ilum) unless your in it for the ganking. But time will tell. Its way to early.
The game had a smooth enough launch, and is fun enough to be successful. I dont think it will be the wow killer, (i think only a blizzard game will be the wow killer). But it certainly has its merits. Its way less grindy in just about every way, and more engaged.
For star wars fans, and for casual players I think this is a great mmo. But I do think hardcore raiding/pvp guilds will move on before to long.... unless something changes. That said, have 2 raids at launch is pretty decent, so they might be able to maintain the pve crowd if they do it properly.

My copy just arrived! So fucking excited!
Though, I've read some troubles that people had, like unable to register their brand new serial key. I hope I don't get any shit like that.

Hey fruscainte, i just wanted to address you for a second.
So lets get some facts down, in july you stated essentially (yes i'm paraphrasing) that you thought the game looked like shit and you might play a demo
couple of months later, you were playing lots of beta
after that you declared you wouldn't touch the game until significant work was done and u were hanging out for GW2
now, at some point, in those 3 main points, you've typed around (again, this isn't exact) 27 THOUSAND WORDS.
in this thread
That is more words than the combined total of my honours thesis literature review, project plan, and the lit review, project proposal and final report for my human computer interactions course.
this is fourth year uni level work. stuff that took me a semester to put together.
so to summarise, you dislike the game for many points that you find valid (and that is all that matters here, as playing a game is all down to personal taste).
Instead of moving on with your life, you did work equivilent to half a semester of honours level engineering course work in terms of word numbers.
I put this proposal to you: Stop posting in this thread, and go do something productive. by the time expansions are coming out on this game you'll probably have put in the effort to cure cancer, and convincing people SWTOR is shit just isn't worth it man.
srsly

I'm trying to subscribe but it does not accept my debit card. It's saying me that they can't accept this card and I need to use another one. WTF why is this? How the hell don't they accept it, it's valid I bought the freaking game with it 2 days ago!

I've been loving this game thus far, but I've been noticing an issue as of late. This issue is character responsiveness, which can be described here:
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=84943 + Show Spoiler +Hello, Before you label me a Troll please read my Early Review here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=76222Note: Please, if you agree with these points and this subject, rate the thread. Perhaps this will raise Bioware's awareness. Anything we can do to make SW:TOR the best it can be because the truth is you and I are here because we want it to succeed and we see it's potential. The game has been out long enough for the masses to finally realize the negatives. As people are getting out of the starting planets and the "new and shiny" feeling starts to subside, the cracks in this new wonderous world are becoming apparent. Ability Delay and Character Responsiveness: -- It is not Latency or FPS Lag I will attempt to discuss this issue and I will do so in a manner that I hope will make everyone understand it better. The "Character Responsiveness" for lack of a better term, is how "smooth" the game plays from your avatars perspective. I have played SWG and EQ to a lesser degree as well as Warhammer Online and several other MMOs and I must honestly say that Bioware has gotten this all too important aspect much better than any previous MMO that I have experienced (with the obvious exception, to which we will get soon). You see, I really want you (The Reader) to understand the importance of this topic. To drive home "how" important this is. In fact I will say this: I am in no way shy to say that, the reason Warhammer Online, EQs, Rift, SWG etc. etc. could never "ever" get to anything near WoW subscriptions is the Character Responsiveness. All these games failed for many reasons, and a game "can" fail for many reasons and on many fronts but this single-one-category... is by "far" the #1 Reason why World of Warcraft is World of Warcraft. Again, I must drive home the fact that no matter if you understand this issue or are new to the subject (and perhaps MMOs) or if you believe the game is fun and enjoyable and think that this is just a vocal minority piping up on something nonsensical. This is the undeniable truth and any game developer or serious gamer worth their salt will agree. What is Character Responsiveness and Ability Delay? -- It is not Latency or FPS lag It is the feeling of connection between the person behind the keyboard and the Avatar that is being controlled. Basically, the better the Character Responsiveness is, the smoother the Game Plays! You may HATE World of Warcraft and believe it is the worst abomination on the planet... that is fine. HOWEVER, you "must" objectively admit that it is the absolute, smoothest Character Responsiveness in a Western Available MMO ever. If you are a WoW player, and have played WoW with any amount of skill, competitiveness, you cannot help but cringe when in a Warzone in SW:TOR. It feels unresponsive, frustrating... as if something is wrong with you! but there is nothing you can do about it! If you have never played WoW, perhaps you come from SWG or EQ2 or Rift etc. that is fine! You are WELCOME in this thread, it is not WoW Players against the Rest! I just "need" you to understand that SW:TOR is "noticeably" and "objectively" bad in this crucial department. I am not writing this because I am trolling or because I love WoW, on the contrary. I am doing this because I want SW:TOR to be amazing, I love so many aspects of this great game... but if this is not addressed it "will" die like every other one. Why is this "so" important?! -- It is not Latency or FPS lag From here on I will say 0.5 for emphasis but reality is 0.2, 0.3 (ANY) Ability Delay is unacceptable. And here is the real problem. It is so important because MMO gaming has become so "tight", so competitive and so smooth (through WoW), that it is completely and absolutely unacceptable for an ability or animation to be delayed by 0.5 seconds. 0.5 seconds is a lot of time, to our visual cortex. 0.5 seconds is the difference between interrupting a CC of the enemy player or not (and thus being disadvantaged/dying). 0.5 seconds is the difference between landing a Taunt on the "add" that just came into the room and thus having it come to you or it one-shotting your healer and thus wiping on the Boss you've just spent 3 Days wiping to. Zero Point Five Seconds is a ******* Long Time Bioware, I plead that you dedicate as many resources as required (all if needed) to address this. You cannot cram story/companions/new flashpoints - operations... Class Balance into patches and hope that is good enough. I hate to be a crazed doomsayer but I must state: Mark my words, if SW:TOR's Character Responsiveness and Ability Delay is not on par with WoW's by March-June it will be just another Rift. Bioware, please see the importance of Character Responsiveness and Visual Stimulation of Ability Animation Correctness. It should be impossible for me to have an ability's cooldown activated without seeing it animate.... this is unacceptable. I just truly hope that this isn't a core coding issue or engine issue, because then we're f'd. P.S.: It is not Latency or FPS Lag... also very important to understand.
I agree with the post and hope that it can be fixed, but I think fixing it will be HIGHLY unlikely.

I addressed you in PM more extensively, but for the sake of publicity -- I'm so very sorry that my opinion is open to change and I'm willing to put effort into expressing my opinions. And no, I won't stop posting about video games in a thread dedicated to video games on a site dedicated to video games because I share a different opinion on video games than you.

I heard there was an HTML error or something on their subscription page and some credit cards aren't being accepted.
Not sure on how valid that is, just a rumor -- perhaps someone else can confirm?

rofl dude. just rofl. trying to make trolling a thread for 6 months some kind of noble affair. do what you want but theres a perfectly good GW2 thread around somewhere where you dont need to spread constant negativity.
lol.

Yeah, shit-talking a game constantly isnt "expressing your opinion", its purposely trying to bend the will of others and put-down a game.
You express your opinion of a game and move on, or continue to play it (whatever your opinion may be.) You dont stop playing it and continue to bitch and moan about every little detail in it :|

It’s plain and staid and deathly dull. It’s both exactly the same as every other MMO we've played, but at the same time so much worse
Throughout 48 hours-worth of play we didn’t see a single interesting or believably animated character; merely sock puppets with semi-decent voice acting.
The plotlines that we saw wouldn’t have been gripping even if they had been populated with Oscar-winning actors
Even fierce combat feels painfully static and uninvolving
We found ourselves wading through an almost obscene amount of combat too, usually against the type of wild beasties and bandits that typify every RPG, ever – but in greater quantity and in an area which felt far smaller. In some cases we’d clear out an area, walk into the next room, turn back and face the exact same enemies we’d killed only moments before. Once or twice we even saw foes respawning over their own corpses as conversations distracted us – very, very anti-fun.
What’s most disappointing of all is how empty and lacking in personality the worlds of The Old Republic felt
I feel a major flop incoming.

Well, looks like my dislike didnt come out of nowhere this time.
Anyways, if you watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azzv3DTQgyQ, keep in mind that people have agendas and ask yourself why he didnt do this with an actual combat ability of he tries to prove combat delay. I dont have fraps and no patience for video editing, but you can actually try it yourself ingame with a combat ability like heal. If you move before the animation finishes but after the castbar is full, your ability will go off and the animation is displayed while you run or jump.
It is sad that my voice on the official forums is silenced by bad trolls, one of my post in the big ability delay thread pointing this out even got deleted. i hope i can stop the widespread of this ability delay rumor here.

Players have a vested interest in voicing their opinions about their favorite MMOs. It's not a single player genre... If I enjoy Skyrim, for instance, but everyone else in the world thinks its shit, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game at all and people won't try to convince me otherwise. MMOs are a whole different beast because you want to defend your MMO for fear of your favorite game dying. Unless there is a massive untapped market out there (certainly in this case, many SW fans who have never played an MMO before), I think most of the players of a new MMO come from existing MMOs. Once you have found your game, your niche, you try your hardest to bend the wills of others because you don't want your game to die. Who the hell wants to be the last guild, the last player, the last character running around in an abandoned MMO universe?
Players hate putting in time and effort into an MMO, only to see it flop. If you got the best looking armor set in the game, or the best pvp rating, but only 10 people still play on your server, then who gives a fuck? You want to be a special snowflake in front of as big an audience as possible. WoW fans are insecure because WoW is slowly losing subscribers. SWTOR fans are insecure because so so many recent MMOs looked so promising but ultimately floundered. It's a dog eat dog world and if you don't expect passionate, even vehement debate on both sides then you really don't understand this genre.
|
I sense a strong /v/ vibe from Fruscainte. Also I just noticed there aren't any reputations in the game. Not that it's a bad thing, but I'm wondering what'll be major "time-sink" things that'll keep the players from "completing" their characters. And yeah, I know about the randomness of crafting.

The coming months i think will include alot of things to make this game so much better then what it is, and i am already in love with it.
-Action delay fix -UI customisation / Mod support -Graphical detail (Anti-aliasing etc) finished and released. -More endgame PvE/PvP content. (Flashpoints, raids, arena / bgs.)
I hope to see all of this by the middle of next year if not march/april time. The only one i wouldnt be too sure on is the mod support although if they give me a customisable UI i dont give a fuck. Although they should implement target of target. <- those two things and i dont care :3
The GFX were removed because it needed smoothing out during the beta, we can expect those soon.
The endgame will of course be added, the level of detail / difficulty / enjoyment remains the real test for them.
Action delay fix i think is enevitable and easy to fix. You really only have to do two things. 1)Increase the castbar/time to cover the animation. 2)Reduce the "actual" casttime by a few miliseconds to compensate for lag and the likes.
The real problem with this is adjusting the cast times is something that could make it all look "messy" (2.0s cast over 2.2 or whatever.) then another option they are left with is increasing no.2 so it covers the bar's cast instead of the animation. (allowing animation to be cancelled in favor of speed.) or completely reworking the animations (or perhaps speeding them up?) to fit the cast times.
Increasing cast times could have an effect on balance too, which is something they need to be aware of...it will require time and some effort from them, but its really not a huge overhaul of the game as some have made it out to be.
|
there is no action delay, read my post -.-
|
Fruscainte haven't you farmed enough posts in this thread? Please go give your constructive and intelligent input somewhere else. You don't like the game, yes we get it, since half a year+++ ago. You might enjoy subtle trolling but some of us are on to you - the fun is gone.
Take care old friend.

Exactly. In that video it looked like a demonstration of it to me :|
Yeah, in the video there is what looks like a half second delay from the castbar reaching full and the speed / animation of the speeder coming into effect.
