Ryze has the best burst damage in the Game but he is short range and Banshees is a HUGE issue for him. He needs the cage to keep you close, the bouncy ball to debuff your MR and the single target nuke for the actual damage. As mentioned if the burst doesn´t kill you he is in BIG trouble.
Regarding Nasus: His ult gives him enough damage that he can ignore any Damage item expect Sheen->Triforce. He needs to farm defensive items though. If nuking him down is a option for the other Team Nasus can´t function even if you aren´t actually Tanking. There is also a small thing to note: Gold>Siphon Strike. Yes you should always try to farm it up as much as possible but DON´T sacrifice farming or even ganking for it. If you can hit the other champion or a Minion with it it´s often better to hit the champion.

I've been playing Blitz recently on my smurf with some friends who just started the game and I'm getting fond of pulling people so much I'm prolly going to main him tho i need some advices. What's a good rune/mastery setup? I'm currently running with "caster" runes (MRpen marks, dodge seals, CD/lvl glyphs and HP quints) and speccing full defense for mana regen cause that pull costs a fuckton of mana in early game, but i feel marks are off. What about his items? I go sapphire crystal into sheen, mercury threads, aegis, leviathan/veil cause I'm playing as a "tank" even though I know he's not really one. Ghost+clairvoyance for summoner's spells?
|
Armor pen marks, dodge seals, CD glyphs, armor pen quints. I see Sheen -> Treads -> BC/BT -> GA.
|
I would get a frozen heart on blitz, it really owns. Helps with mana issues too.
I would go sheen, boots (treads or swift), glacial shroud, frozen heart
Then branch out from there if you want more dps (trinity) or magic resist/health (aegis, banshees)
Overdrive+Swift lets you ambush people, and the CD reduction on powerfist is fun as hell with frozen heart.

Finally got around to writing it...
Pantheon Guide!
Runes: The only really set part of Pantheon's rune build is Marks as Armor Pen. You really can't do better than +18 armor pen, especially since this effects spear chucking and heart-seeker strike. For Seals, I run dodge since I figure you can't go wrong with them. Coupled with his shield passive, dodge gives you some nice physical damage survivability, but I think hp/level or maybe mana regen or something could also work here. Glyphs I do Mana Regen per Level, but I think there's a lot to be said for flat CD, CD/level, and Magic Resist (any of the standard Glyphs). Dodge/Mp5pL has been fine for me, but I think there's room to experiment here if you've invested differently and any combination of Dodge/HPpL/Mp5pL Seals with Mp5pL/CD/CDpL/MRpL Glyphs should work except for both being Mp5pL. Quints are tough. I'm still working on my set of flat HP quints, so I run a combination of Move Speed and Flat HP, but I honestly think Pantheon would be best off with just more Armor Pen in quints, I just don't have them yet. I've run Move Speed, Flat Attack Damage, CDpL, and HP Quints, and it mostly seems to boil down to play-style between them. Again, if I had the IP right now, I'd say that Armor Pen Quints are probably optimal, but I haven't really tested this.
tl;dr Marks: ArmorPen Seals: Dodge Glyphs: Mp5pL Quints: ArmorPen
Masteries: Again, this is really play-style dependent. I have settled multiple times with Pantheon into different mastery setups, but at this point I really just play it by how I'm feeling at a given point in time. 21/9/0, 15/0/15, 0/9/21, and 11/0/19 setups all feel viable. If you do anything in the defensive tree, you're getting 3 Magic Resist, 1 Armor, 4 Dodge, and 1 Nimbleness. With Pantheon's base move speed and a full dodge page, you should be able to escape sticky situations off a nimbleness trigger, which is nice. I've veered away from the mastery builds with 9 in defensive recently, but I still run 21/9/0 semi-frequently, as 9 in defensive is better than 9 in utility, and 21 in offensive scales the best to bursting in the end game. 15/0/15 has been my staple for awhile (3 crit chance, 1 AP/level, 4 CD, 1 AS, 3 Armor Pen, 3 AD, 3 perseverance, 1 good hands, 4 awareness, 1 greed, 3 meditation, 3 move speed). It's a really nice setup for the early game with meditation, movespeed, flat damage, and armor pen. However, as of last night, I'm starting to think that 11/0/19 is probably a better setup. I tried it in 2 games, and you're giving up the 3 AD and 1 AS points from offensive and 1 point in greed from utility, and in return are getting 2 points of neutral creep buff duration, and 3 intelligence to max CD redux from masteries. Not as good early by a small margin, but 6% CD redux scales way better to the end game, so I'd say you should go with this setup or 21/9/0 to stay as streamlined as possible.
tl;dr 11/0/19 or 21/9/0
Summoner Spells: I always run Cleanse on him and flip flop between flash and ghost for my 2nd spell. Exhaust can be useful for chasing and can be cast when your circle appears when you ult to assure that you get a decent hit on someone, but I really haven't ever felt it was better than Cleanse, Ghost, or Flash when I've played with it recently. Ghost is better for chasing than Flash, but Flash is ultimately more flexible, so take that for whatever it's worth. It's really a preference thing.
Skills: Q W Q/E (if harassing well, get another point of Q first, otherwise, get E for EZmode last hitting) E/Q (whichever you didn't get last level) E R from here: E > Q > R > W The idea is to max the abilities that scale with your attack damage fast as that's what your item build will focus on. Active Heart-seeker is 1. an amazing farming tool, 2. an amazing AoE burster in teamfights, and 3. an amazing combo burster vs. one enemy after using W once you get the first BF Sword. Maxing it first is important so that at level 9 you can make the most of it. Spear Chucking is great for early farming and harassing, and later is good for chasing down low heroes and bursting (use it between attacks when your other abilities are on CD and you can get a quick auto-attack, spear throw, auto attack 3 hit burst even with poor attack speed). Shield bash is great. It lets you reposition and mini-stun (which combos into Heart-seeker for big bursting on a single target), but it's damage doesn't scale with your build (scales with AP, not AD), so leveling it is essentially just reducing the CD by 2 seconds. This isn't bad, but I really think that it's less worth extra points than the skills that properly scale with your item build. Also, don't always try to use your shield bash into heart-seeker in team fights. You can usually position a good heart-seeker just fine without wasting your stun that might save the team from fiddlesticks or NuNu or some other ridiculous threat. If you're bad with hitting your ult, feel free to max shield bash first. If you're not hitting your ult in teamfights, you'll just be using it as a teleport to save towers or quickly re-enter a teamfight, in which case having more frequent stuns is better, but your ult can be potentially devastating in teamfights, especially with a good AoE snare/stun like Amumu or Alistar. It takes a few games before you get used to how to predict your ult placement for team fights, but you're essentially waiting 6 seconds for channeling + 2 seconds after the circle appears, so just try to put it where you think the shit will be hitting the fan in 6-8 seconds.
Item Build: I religiously open boots + 3 HP pot. The only other viable opening in my mind is Long Sword + HP pot. I opened Meki Pendant when I was scrubby, but it's a dead end item and you're way better off making the small investment in runes/masteries instead of slowing your build down. Doran's blade is bad for the same reason, you can't afford to slow your build down.
The early game is either: Boots BF Sword Bloodthrister Merc Treads
-or-
Long Sword Boots Brutalizer/BF Sword (ideally BF, but sometimes this takes too long and you just need to settle on Brutalizer to stay relevant) Merc Treads BF Sword (if you got Brutalizer)/Bloodthirster (if you got BF Sword) Bloodthirster (if you got Brutalizer)
Long Sword is probably better for the first 5-10 minutes of laning, but it slows down the optimal build for him and with his base speed and utility tree speed boost, Pantheon gets close to 400 move speed with boots, which can really let you punish overaggressive opponents. You also get more HP pots, which should let you farm longer, which again really helps you get to the sweep spot of the build (first BF Sword). I like to suffer through a fairly marginal opening 5-10 minutes of farming and harassing with liberal spear chucking to get the fastest possible BF Sword. This is why you need all that mana regen from runes and/or masteries. I run both glyphs as Mp5pL and full meditation just so that I can harass very hard vs. weak lanes to hobble them and sit further back and last hit like crazy with spear throw vs. stronger harassing lanes. If you're more conservative with your spear chucking, you should be fine cutting back a bit, but I really find it to be crucial to how I like to play Pantheon.
Once you get the first BF Sword and boots, you should be able to ult somewhere to make an imbalanced fight and get a kill/assist or two. After you get to Merc Treads + BT, the optimal build is to stack a second BT for massive damage output. This also gives a lot of staying power as Panth is a great farmer who gets to +200 damage and 50% lifesteal off 2 BTs really quickly, and that means low heath creeps (which you autocrit) are like a free 300 health whenever you need it. However, a lot of games won't allow you to do this, so if you need a cheaper way to boost your damage, Brutalizer is really really efficient on Pantheon (decent damage/cost, armor pen helps both q and e and the CD redux is very nice). Phage also can help a bunch if you need an HP boost, while also adding damage and a slow that can help you fulfill the role of a chaser (later upgrading to Frozen Mallet is nice too, but I'd never get to Mallet before 2nd BF). Banshee's Veil, as always, is definitely the best way to deal with big magic/CC bursts and is my usual item after 2 BTs if I don't have to detour for it earlier. With dodge runes and your passive, you should be able to mitigate a bit of physical damage and stacking armor really won't do you much good (and besides you shouldn't be taking many hits anyway). If you really need to deal with physical damage better, I think Phantom Dancer is the way to go, because although it's slow, it will help your damage output by giving better attack speed to help all that attack damage you've been stacking, more attacks = more passive triggers, the moves peed helps you chase and the dodging will deal with physical damage better than armor would for you. I wouldn't really recommend PD, but I have had to go there towards the end game if I have to be an AD carry instead of a burster/chaser. Of course in the rare case of fighting an AD-centric team with little to no CC, feel free to replace Merc Treads with Ninja Tabi to help mitigate the physical damage.
I tried the new Sword of the Occult and it doesn't fit into this build at all. It slows you down too much to get it at any point in the build where you'd conceivably be able to build up charges on it. It's just too large of an investment for too small of a guaranteed benefit. And if you're getting kills and it's snowballing, you could've probably just bought a BF sword and done just better up until the point the game becomes trivial (when a SotO is potentially better).

Hey TLers!
I just started playing a couple weeks ago; summoner level 15 at the moment. I've been playing a bit of Rammus lately, and am looking for premades (and people to learn with).
My handle is reciprocate.

Plus, I tend to pick heroes based on how much fun they are to play, rather than their top-tier-ness or carry-ness. Thus, I play a lot of Amumu, Morgana, Cho'Gath, and Mordekaiser, which leads to some pubbers going "omg just pick Twitch u nub." (Although honestly, I consider Gana a top-tier hero if played correctly, but whatever).
...sigh. I need to start actually playing with TL people rather than just pubbing.
Love Morgana as well. So much fun in team fights with your ult. Playing with a Malphite would be sick.
Singed is so much fun as well. So much fear early game vs other melee because of his throw and gas.

I just chuck spears at Singed all early game.

I've been doing well as Blitz recently too, I use a 9/0/21 build, making sure to grab the clairvoyance and flash upgrades, the summoner cd reduction, both champ cd reductions (9% total!) the 15% spell pen, and greed. I also use cd reduction at 18, crit chance, and dodge runes (dodge runes are not that important, this is just my all purpose page, and I like them), with gold/5 quintessences.
I start off with a regrowth pendant and my q. I turn the pendant into a philosopher stone when I get the chance for mana and money. I follow it up with boots of mobility, so that I can get pulls (and subsequently, assists) in any and all the lanes as needed. Third I grab a leviathan, because nobody can rack up assists like Blitzcrank, and with leviathan's recent buff, 20 stacks is no longer a problem. I find that it's all Blitz needs to function as a tank effectively, (especially in those situations where there isn't another/better candidate) whilst not interfering with his intended playstyle. With crank, I try and get assists rather then kills, because I get 2 levi stacks for kill or assist, and I don't really have the damage to take people out myself. I also figure that the dps-ers need the kills more then I do anyway, especially if they're using Majai's or Occult. After levi, I build triforce for the well rounded stats and effects, but mostly to enhance Crank's 3 hit burst combo (q-e-r). I usualy go for phage first to complement my levi armor, followed by shean an then zeal last, but that's just me. After triforce I try to get inf edge, to maximize the bursty awesomeness of his e as much as possible, but the game usually ends before that.
As for skill order, I follow r > q > e > w, with usually only 1 early point in w in case I need a quick(er) getaway. I focus so heavily on the q to try and get it's cd as low as possible, so that I can pull more often, and favor the burst and control of his e over the more sustained damage and chasing potential of his w, for a more pull-focus-retreat type hit and run strategy. I use flash to set up surprise pulls, and also for escaping, and I use clairvoyance to find targets for my q in the fog of war (behind walls, in brush, etc.) for especially mean ganks, as well as scouting for enemy traps. With my mastery spec, clairvoyance has a very low cd for a summoner spell, like 50 seconds or less, a good portion of which the spell is active. This makes it very reliable, and can ruin certain teams who rely on sneaky set ups for massive team ganks, (aka: the most annoying ones) especially since you can pull one of them out of their little hiding place and turn the tables on their team with one solid initiation. Just be sure not to use it too far ahead of you, (usually, sometimes you need to scout baron, etc.) and use your pull soon after use, because smart teams will begin to retreat at first sight of the eye, as they would from a pantheon ult, tf ult, teemo, shaco, or nidalee trap, etc. which can cost you the pull, and as such, the advantage.
Wow, I didn't expect this to turn post to turn into a guide, but there you have it. Hope it was all the more helpful because of it's length.
Edit: One last thing, in case you didn't know, the length of Blitz's pull is longer then the range circle indicates. For a more accurate measurement, move away from any ally units, structures, or champs, so that the only thing giving you vision of the area is Blitz's natural line of sight. Cranks arm can snag almost anything within his personal circle of vision, only falling short of targets that are standing on the edge of his natural vision, and those that are already partially submerged in the fog of war. A proper assessment of the steam golem's reach can lead to the pulls that people consider to be "cheating" or "hax" or "satanic powers" and the like.

sounds like you still have a little ways to go on refining that build. Eventually you'll be ditching the Philly stone and those Gold/10 quints for more efficient options. Most Blitzes I see go Sheen first so that they can actually just go through their whole skill rotation and obliterate the opponent without needing a teammate to play cleanup after every grab. Then I see a bunch of soft tanking items, and sometimes the sheen turning into a trinity force.
|
Maybe so, but I like it, and it will certainly work for some one just picking up the character, especially at lower Elo. So far I've defeated the Blitzcranks who use builds such as the ones you mentioned, and until it stops working, I'm gonna keep using it.
That isn't to say that I won't go for a kill, given the opportunity, but it's not terribly efficient to try for them, especially solo. Once you get triforce though, you can finish off a weakened target pretty easily, and with inf edge you can three shot champs at the softer end of the spectrum using his combo. My point was that it is better to go through your rotation and back off if they arn't dead, letting your team finish the job, rather then stand there getting out dps-ed. It's better to pull back a bit until your combo is back up.
|
yea, that's fine, I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, sorry if it came off that way. you'll still be able to beat up on people if you're better than them, and the build is very forgiving with the quick + 9 gold/10, which is nice. I'm just suggesting a more streamlined build as I think it would probably yield better results for you as you get better.
I see Blitz as a burster who wants to be brutal early on, so I see Philosopher's Stone as a 1K diversion from the core of your build. Most people consider Philly Stone a throwaway at higher levels on everyone, and there's some validity to that viewpoint. However, I still open Philly Stone on Amumu, but the difference to me is that Amumu has no way to farm early without regrowth because he has no ranged farming or way of threatening an early kill, and the regrowth seems unnecessary with Blitz's lane presence. You force people to back off with Blitz just by threatening grabs. It just makes more sense to me to open Sapphire crystal + 2 health pots and then build sheen + boots to keep yourself on track.

So I probably posted in the first 10 pages of this thread and then disappeared. Now I am feeling the LoL bug biting again so I need a couple of questions answered.
First, let me say that I am nowhere near super-skilled but I am (well was) a decent player. I stopped playing after the last wipe so I'm really low level but I can fix that pretty fast.
Now the Questions: 1. Did they introduce more maps or are we stuck with the same two (and the winter version of Summoners of course)? I hated how they had that cool looking map with selectable areas but they were locked. 2. Can someone please tell me if gathers and IH are easier to find nowadays. Last time finding some familiar faces to play with was soooooo hard that it turned me off and I started focusing on HoN more (even thou I always liked LoL a little better). 3. Only the blonde kid has been added since Nidalee right? 4. Is Mogwai the LoL Testie? 5. Has the game died down or grown since the official release? 6. How good is the support Riot is giving LoL? Do they patch the game regularly? Do they have anything interesting in the works etc..? 7. What are the IRC channels and Vents the cool kids hang around this days? 8. Are there any tournaments going on these days? Were can I watch :p?
Sorry for all the questions but it's been a while and I want to get back into this game

Fair enough. I can understand Philly being seen as a throwaway from a certain perspective, but for Blitz I like it, for of a bunch of reasons that I believe justify it when combined, if not individually.
For one I'm already getting 4 gold/5 from my spec, (which I know I could replace with something else) and in LoL, I think redundancy is a good thing, second, it provides just enough mp regen to sustain the style of play that I employ, without excessive amounts of "oom moments" third, Blitz is arguably light on farming techniques, not as bad as some, but my build contains the two most expensive items in the game, inf edge and triforce, which when combined with power fist, is a helluvalot of damage. The idea is to rush this item combo, and complete it within a reasonable time frame. 4th the Hp regen is surprisingly helpful for keeping Blitz in the lane during the early game, more specifically when faced with champs that have a strong harass which they can lob over the heads of the creeps, something that Blitz can't immediately counter, since he is a relatively large, slow, short ranged target early, and smart players will hide behind creeps, which have an annoying tendency to meat-shield the pull.
In some ways I liken the Philli Stone to buying alot of early workers, or a fast expand in starcraft, sacrificing some early power for mid game success, I'm a noob at sc, but the 3 hatch muta comes to mind, a build which has flattened my Terrans, time and time again, but that's another story. Anyway, if it comes to it, I can always sell the stone late game after it has payed for it'self, which it does with massive interest, I know this because in one game, I fought a Crank who followed the same basic build as me, except I had a stone first. During that game there was a point where he had leviathan, mobility, triforce, pickax, and I had stone, mobility leviathan (about twice the stacks fyi), triforce, pickaxe. At about the same point, I turned my pickax into inf edge, and he turned his into a rageblade. Not that he was a model Blitz, but that was the difference in our money. (Btw, my team won)
As for early game burster, I agree, but I think he can accomplish that role regardless of his item choice, he's kind of a beast like that. I'm not saying that this is the only way to play crank, I'm just saying it's my way, and it works pretty well.

There is still but one map that can be played with MM. 2. Can someone please tell me if gathers and IH are easier to find nowadays. Last time finding some familiar faces to play with was soooooo hard that it turned me off and I started focusing on HoN more (even thou I always liked LoL a little better). I'm not sure what you mean by "gathers" or "IH", but the auto-matchmaking system is...ok. 3. Only the blonde kid has been added since Nidalee right? No, Mordekaiser is also new. I'm not sure if anyone else is new -- I wasn't around when Nidalee was released. 4. Is Mogwai the LoL Testie? Don't know what this means. He seems happy to dispense advice, but somewhat arrogant about it. 5. Has the game died down or grown since the official release? Auto-matchmaking typically takes less than 60 seconds. 6. How good is the support Riot is giving LoL? Do they patch the game regularly? Do they have anything interesting in the works etc..? There are patches every week or two. New heroes seem to show up every few weeks as well. A lot of features promised in "upcoming features" are still missing, however. New features != cash. New champsion == cash. 7. What are the IRC channels and Vents the cool kids hang around this days? TL Vent. Most communication is set up via LoL itself. 8. Are there any tournaments going on these days? Were can I watch :p? None via Riot.Sorry for all the questions but it's been a while and I want to get back into this game
Sorry I couldn't answer more of them.

Is shaco's two shiv knife throw considered a magic attack or a physical one? and I saw this new hero called Shen, but didnt see it in action.
|
The few Shens I've played with/against haven't really impressed me recently. I've seen total tankage that did absolutely no damage whatsoever, some weird AP build that just clearly didn't work out and some other stuff. The AP build guy was pretty good using teleports to make someone immune to damage though, so I've got to give him props for that.

Thanks a bunch Oberon.
So Mog is LoL's Testie (:p) I wanted to know is if Mog is playing in tournaments and stuff and is considered a skilled player by the rest of the community even outside of TL.
IH (In-House) and Gathers are 5v5 games were the teams are qued together to play each other. Usually there is voice communication requirements and you play with and against the same group of players. I assume there are none for LoL at the moment then.
What TL Vent Channel you guys use and what's it's password? The DotA/HoN channel is protected so I assume the LoL one is as well.
How do you communicate in the game? You guys join an specific channel? If so what's the name?
How often does the TL crew get together to play games and when you guys do is it usually to pubstomp or to play against other organized teams? Also would you consider the TL community active in LoL?
*Really pissed that Riot hasn't released things that were promised a long time ago >.< But I can live with that. I will be joining you guys soon I just need to re-download the game :p
O.K. So Riot isn't running any tournaments is anyone else?
|
As far as I know there aren't any good ways to organize good scrims against premades unless you know members of the team and want to create a private practice game. I think that's the closest you'd get to IH's (a la DotA). That being said, I have noticed that the matchmaking system matches premades with other premades more often than when you solo queue.
Join channel LiquidParty, there are usually people there assuming you're not playing in the mornings (US time).

solomid does but as expected it´s a miserable pile of drama. Riot JUST announced a Tournament, to celebrate the release of the first 3v3 map, Twisted Treeline. (http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=79656) Regarding things they promised long ago: The Facebook Tristana skin is also out.
