That's like looking through the eyes of someone with synesthesia or a crazy person. I'll assume there's supposed to be a legend or that he at least posted what the colors mean.

Ok, so I'm not about to nominate that graph for any awards, but I don't think it's quite as incomprehensible as people are making it out to be. The first column represents the status quo of a particular game. The second represents adding a mechanic (e.g. by removing multiple building select or unlimited control groups from sc2) to that game. The third represents removing a mechanic (e.g., by giving queens auto-inject in sc2). Each color represents a skill at performing one of the game's mechanics (so black might be one's skill at building units from your barracks without MBS). The height of the color is supposed to represent the fraction of the overall skill of a humanly achievable ideal player that is attributable to that mechanic. He is claiming with the pair of graphs that adding a new mechanic doesn't increase the skill ceiling (i.e., the skill of a humanly achievable ideal player) but rather decreases the fraction of the skill ceiling attributable to skill in the already existing mechanics. Skill in the new mechanics makes up the rest. You can raise a lot of questions about the well-definedness of many of the notions employed in the graphs, but I don't think it's that hard to see what the graphs are claiming. I suppose the least clear notion is that of the fraction of the skill ceiling that is attributable to a skill at performing a particular mechanic. If you granted a way of representing each individual skill numerically, then perhaps you could think of this as the fraction of the variance in win rates that is attributable to the variance in that skill. This still assumes a lot though.

Argues X. You are wrong, because of Y. Argues X again, also shows a graph that for some reason is supposed to convince you, just because it's a graph. Most famous example, argues that Ursa is OP because he had a high winrate in pub dota. People argue that it doesn't mean anything, and it only has a high winrate in lower level games, etc. Builds a few graphs to prove that Ursa has a high winrate in pubs, even though everyone knows that and isn't saying that the specific stat is wrong. Of course people also didn't hold a very high opinion of his arguments from the start since it began as a huge post about why Dota sucks in a Dota thread, and at the same time insulting everyone who disagreed with his obviously right conclusions.

Because terrible MSPainted graphs with no legend and no scale are used so often in the real world? We don't even know what the colors mean, because he didn't provide a legend. There's no reason to use a graph unless you have actual data. You can type it out in words if it's just your feelings. Graphs aren't something you just eyeball and then use the square tool to make.
