@Half - Not more than a couple weeks ago, grudgeStar was temp banned for inflammatory posts. As soon as he comes back (just a couple days ago), he picks up another warning (for the same way of posting) by myself. And now he makes a post like this?
He is a horrible poster, and Naz is actually pretty generous not to perm him.
Seriously; when you guys disagree with a ban, do you look into the history of the poster at all? Christ. We've been doing this a long time, trust us.
Edit - also, 3k replies.
I know I can see my posts as a chronological list up to some point can I do the same thing for other posters as well or is this a thing reserved to mods?

Aye you can view anyone's post via profile then total post.

That may be true, but you didn't really address the actual content of the post which was what Half was talking about.
Nazgul wrote: "...however to post it as a one liner without bothering to explain yourself to everyone who disagrees..."
That doesn't really make sense. How does Nazgul know everyone disagrees? He wouldn't get a chance to explain himself to anyone who did because he was temp banned.

When I was reading through that thread and got to Idra's post, I just imagined him sitting by his computer with an evil look on his face, smashing down his index finger on the "Idra button" and some "BOOM!" comes out of nowhere. It was really beautiful to read. Props to Idra :D

Where can I find this thread?
Search -> Content only Search for "bigt" username "idra"
First hit is the correct one. The search function on TL is really quite effective. I hope it's patent pending!
rozina was just temp banned for 2 days by Hot_Bid.
That account was created on 2010-09-10 20:11:22 and had 19 posts.
Reason:

Ofc BW was harder, but that is not a good thing! Thats the reason it is not played anymore. Except for Korea.
This opinion is just so wrong and I typed a response like 3 times only to delete because there's just no way to respond to this other than a 2-day.
Oh god hahaha, this one made me laugh so hard. Just his spelling and train of thought plus Hot_Bid's inability to respond back to his incoherent post is just rofl-inducing.
I find that ban very saddening, I am putting together quotes and pictures about the shitty attitude towards SCII, because I wanted to make my first well written thread about this. it seems there is no point, as the dark age thinking has befallen the admins as well.
just keep in mind, that chess is regarded as one of the best strategy games, because when you use a piece on the board to attack, it executes it, not like a dragoon, who only will do so if you combine a loot of useless clicks.
thats why in my opinion SCII is more of a strategy game, and Broodwar, where the person who faster clicks and pushes more buttons has the advantage,is closer to counterstrike, sad but true.
No sorry completely wrong...
So many length, analytical posts have been written on this issue that posts like yours are just annoying.
Here on some key points on why a mechanically challenging game is required in real time strategy i've made in the past.
...very few pure strategy games exist because pure strategy is really not as pure as you would think. Without mechanics the metagame developers at an absurd rate. The end result is that the metagame just self-terminates because the game is "imbalanced", or the other end result is Chess, a game of thousands of complex calculations. Creativity does exist in chess, but if you think Idra lacks creativity then you probably wouldn't appreciate the kind of "Creativity" found in high level chess.
The kind of Strategy you talk about is intuition. Games like Starcraft and Poker are driven by Intuition. Intuition is something almost every single one of us here is very good at. Sampling bias, so to speak. Intuition however, is only applicable, in an underdeveloped metagame before structures are allowed to form. The only kind of games this can occur is in games limited by mechanics (SC1 and to a lesser extent SC2), or games nobody fucking gives a shit about and plays (Halo Wars).
intuitive strategic choices can only exist because of mechanics. Only when the game cannot be turned into a structure and you have a split second to preform calculations will you be making intuitive strategic choices.
Nobody takes "chances" in chess. Chess is a game of logic, taken to the extreme. It is something that requires a lot of talent and intelligence, and the average person, who can probably train themselves to think intuitively, will never really be able to become a top chess player. Top chess players brains literally function differently then ours, ours are simply not optimized to predict exponentially branch possibilities forty or fifty turns in advance. In game design terms, Chess has experienced incredible amounts of meta-game growth.
Mechanics is a way a game can artificially hinder strategic (or meta-game) development. Mechanics are the inevitable result of a game operating in real time. By slowing the development of the metagame (strategy), intuition remains a useful skill.
(In response to Ruse being a superior strategic game, but unbalanced.
Has it ever occurred to you Ruse is poorly balanced for competitive play, or intrinsically unbalance able for competitive play, because lack of mechanics? Mechanics restrict the structuralising of gameplay. As gameplay becomes more structural, minute differences are amplified. As you decrease the role of mechanics, the inherent structure of the game has to become more balanced. Likewise, a game heavily driven by mechanics has a much laxer requirement on balance. Once you approach zero mechanics, you need to be at perfect balance.
--- tl;dr: The kind of strategy your talking about can only occur in mechanically oriented games on a competitive level. Otherwise, the lack of mechanics results in "pure strategy", which becomes another complex, structural, mechanic in itself, similar to chess on the top level, a series of complex, mechanical, mental routines that require countless hours of practice in order to perform, with creative intuition playing an equal if not lesser role then it would in mechanically oriented RTS's.
Not really the thread to bump this in, but great post!
I just realized that BigT still has events on the calender and it made me laugh. He is allowed to host events(or at least finish up the ongoing event he was hosting) but he cant post. Honestly I kind of like this situation
I dreamt about this thread last night.. I wrote the best post of my life. I added all sorts of pictures and charts and everything but for some reason I got a week long ban for it. I was pretty damn livid. So I pmed the mod who banned me to give me a list of other mods I could talk to. Yeah, I read this thread too much. The next day I had to talk to a judge made out of chocolate. And they had to unscrew her entire upper body off her bottom half like she was a giant lightbulb.
Speaking of terrible posters, check out this guy's antics.
17 posts on a 1-day old account, all in the Patch 1.2 thread, and all complaining about Protoss and Zerg imbalance while not supporting his claims at all. How he's escaped detection in such a high-profile thread is impressive.

Thanks. In the future you can PM a moderator if you feel there's an objective problem with the forum.
So apparently this BigT character, who is no longer with us, has incredible abs. If only his casting and posting were as rock solid as his abs, I think he would've been a more valued member of the community, and his contributions would have really stood out, like his abs.
Maybe instead of casting or making tournaments for SC2, he should've made a cast on personal fitness and hosted tournaments for cell phone self-photography. For the latter, he wouldn't have had any problem raising money because he could just post some pics that screamed out "Look at my amazing abdominal muscles" and people would instantly think "This guy is legit." Then they would pull out their paypal accounts and donate to the tournament. In the memo section of the paypal donation, they could even leave a comment such as "Wow, BigT, you have incredible abs!"
Why aren't the rules of the random pics thread being enforced by warnings/bans? there are people arguing all over the place, but no consequences. Usually TL is very reliable when it comes to the enforcement of rules. Maybe I am missing the point, honestly it could be that I have a completely different definition of what counts as "arguing" or whatever.
I hope this doesn't count as backseat moderating, if so, I apologize.

I would just like to understand what's going on
PM us with the offending posts. We can't read every thread. I try my best to read most of what passes through SC2/BW and hot topics in General/Blogs/Sports but that's a lot of ground to cover and I tend to skip megathreads like the pics thread.
101TFP the problem is if what you mean is really bannable in most cases. Think about it in this way - pic thread would still have the same amount of pictures, with or without discussion about some of them. The difference is you need to scroll a bit more to see them.

According to your logic, it's okay to have a bunch of garbage threads clogging up the side bar because there is the same amount of legitimate threads, with or without the garbage. The difference is that you need to scroll(and maybe click) a bit more to see them.
