After receiving the results of a DNA test, Slovenian police confirmed that the body found in the river Ljubljianica on Friday is the one of German poker player Johannes Strassmann.
Strassmann, who was in Slovenia to meet with some local high-stakes players, was reported missing on Saturday, June 21, when he disappeared from Ljubljana's old town.
Since then, the local police had tried their best to find him, carrying out numerous operations across the whole country involving a large number of agents, helicopters, and search dogs.
On Friday morning, police found a body on the banks of the Ljublianica River in Ljubljana and performed a DNA test on it as the body was reported to be in too poor of a condition to proceed with an immediate identification.
Twenty-four hours later the test results came in, and authorities confirmed to PokerNews that the body was the one of 29-year-old Johannes Strassmann.
After news hit the poker sites (amongst them Liquidpoker) that Johannes Strassman, Starcraft: Brood War alias ToT)Psier( went missing a week ago, everyone feared the worst.
Yesterday his body was found in Ljubljana and has now been identified. The cause of death as it's known right now is drowning.
I remember him to be one of the friendliest guys I have ever had the pleasure of being in a gaming team with. I didn't speak to him the past couple of years, but followed his success in the poker world with some interest. Truly a sad loss to the world.
Please join me in wishing a lot of strength to his family and friends in this tragedy. R.I.P. Johannes
Talented guy at Starcraft and later on poker. He played poker at the highest level and traveled the world for the last few years. Always incredibly friendly and helpful to everyone.
I'm very sad to see a good guy go at such a young age. RIP.
Sad news, I havent heard from him in like 10 years but we used to play alot back then. I heard about a missing german poker-player in the news, but until now i did not realise it was him. This is quite a shock for me. We've never met in rl but he was a very smart and friendly guy. He had alot of insight into the game and i remember him enjoying talks about healthy diet and bodybuilding.

First thing you must realize is that the river we are talking about is not really a river, it's more of a canal. For a drunk and/or drugged person who would fall in it could generally be very hard to find a way to get out.
Secondly he was last seen in the general area seen in a picture below. As you can see it is surrounded by the mentioned canal. I would also want you to note that as he disappeared into the small side alley, most alleys in this area will lead you directly to the riverside.
So my theory is that he was on a bender with friends, heavily drinking bear and/or experimenting with drugs. He disappeared from his friends to the alley to go pee. The alley lead him right to the canal. While peeing, in his intoxicated state he fell in, swallowed water/hit his head somewhere and his body sank under the water and was found a day or two later.
It wouldn't be the first or the last accident like this in that area.
