Hello, all!

It's become quite apparent that many of you are not reading the first post carefully.

Failure to do so in the future will be met with swift punishment. And as always, remember to be civil.

Thanks,

When I saw IdrA's tweet ordering his personal army to PM HotBid and Chill, it made me furious and I knew it would make matters worse. I don't understand why IdrA feels the need to throw kerosene into a buffalo dung bonfire.

If you want to make sc2 as popular in foreign countries as it is in Korea then I think you have to support the ban on Idra.

http://www.cracked.com/article_18763_5-insane-true-facts-about-starcraft-professional-sport_p2.html

Although Idra deserves recognition and praise for his skill as a player he still needs to be held accountable for his actions and behavior as a person. The article above is from a fairly popular site and in my opinion it shows an unfortunate and I hope overall minor side of SC2. Scroll to the bottom of the article and you will see Idra, his bm and his picture which I don't think help SC2 at all; Idra gives a negative stigma to SC2 players.

I wish the article showed the good side of SC2 like how most of the players are well mannered, intelligent and courteous to each other (whitera, tlo, day9, incontrol, and boxer to name a few).

If you want SC2 and esports in general to become popular among the populace then we as a community can't allow our representative players to act like this; they stand not only for themselves but for us as well. When random people catch a glimpse of SC2 whether it be article, stream, youtube, or right here on TL, would you want them to see something on a person like Idra or a person like day9?

TLDR:
SC2 has potential to break ground on making esports popular among the general public in foreign countries but if they see people like Idra and his actions it associates a negative image to SC2 and all of its players and hurts esports in general. We need the general public to see the good side of SC2 people like whitera, tlo, day9, incontrol, and boxer.

I'm really surprised there was no bias in that article whatsoever, i'm glad you brought this great piece of information to light. Haha that part about snapping him in half was funny, especially since he always bm's every person who plays terran hell, slap another 90 onto him. He's a disgrace to E-sports and the worst thing to come from the foreigner scene.

He called someone a waste of life...for the way he plays starcraft, doesn't that strike you as ridiculous? And then he asks people to PM chill about a 2 day ban he clearly deserved and was shown leniancy on. I like idra but...yea....he would have been IP banned 3 times over by now if he wasn't Idra

There was an incident at my country. A girl wrote at her facebook page that she hates her teacher. Teacher found out and expeled the girl from the school. It was a big mess and after all they fired the teacher. You know why? Because that is not freedom of speach. That is not democracy. Everyone has his own opinion and not letting them expresing it takes us many years behind.Thats what the judge said at court. Now this reminded me of that incident. I believe one should write whatever he wants on his tweeter or on his facebook as long as its not insulting but even if it is insulting its his opinion and its his page. Apart from that i understand that some1 must inforce the rules of the forum so it runs smoothly for everyone but keep in mind that now you guys have to do with a lot of people. You descisions will affect alot of people and will bring all kinds of reactions. Of course you want to protect your volunteers and admins but not when someone is wrong. I believe chills made a mistake. Thats my opinion please dont ban... No joking but seriusly u ban idra based on what he wrote on some other site but u dont do anything to Cruncher that steals threw your site and he admits it. Not only that but he provokes idra into making these comments wich leads us to this situation. It is never never never 1 mans fault on an argument. Trust me never. I dont care about idra, i dont care abour cruncher i dont care about chill. I am at nobodys side but in my opinion this is unfair. And there is absolutly no way a forum site can dictate what i write or state at my own tweeter or facebook. . .

You really should have read more. And this isn't about Freedom of Speech.

If someone owns a website and says no porn on it and people post porn on it, it's not acceptable as an example. If someone who owns a site says this site is for "positive" news stories, don't post negative ones. You follow it or get kicked out. If a news site wants news instead of blogs, then you do news instead of blogs.

There is a time and place to express yourself. This isn't Idra's world.

Idra doesn't own this site, the owner and it's mods decided on the rules, Idra needs to abide by them, if he wants to remain in this community. He needs to start to. I for one won't be effected by it. I'll still watch his stream sometimes. I'll still come to TeamLiquid.net

Do you think this will change Idra? I don't know I'm not Idra, looking from his record you'd only think it'd continue or get toned down slightly.

Well Idra is the bad boy of the SC2 scene, and I guess his post and the punishment for it are justified. Especially the encouragement to cause disruption on the site.

Freedom of speech doesn't apply to TL. Idra has a long history of being a total douche as often as possible; he has probably the longest ban/warning history of any user. He knows where the boundaries are, he just refuses to adhere to them because he 'doesn't care'.

I think banning him is rather silly and to be frank I would much rather read a poor post by Idra then almost anyone else, since he is pretty much the best foreign player.

Any other user would have been perm-banned a long fucking time ago. As someone who's been friends with Idra for six or seven years now (and one of his greatest supporters on staff), the fact that even I am ready to say "enough is enough" ought to give you a clue not only to how collectively sick we are of his attitude, but also to the severity of his action against Chill.

And regarding the 90 day ban, he was upset he got banned and vented about it on twitter... so what? The only reason it even had an effect is because he is so popular...

While it's true that the massive influx of harassing PMs (and waves of shit appearing on other websites, etc) happened because of the popularity of Idra's Twitter, it's ignorant to pretend that Idra didn't know exactly what sort of effect his tweet would have. He wanted his fans to harass Chill. It was direct intent, and his drooling caste of retarded followers made good on it. This crosses a major line, one that very, very few people have ever been so arrogant & uncaring as to cross. It speaks volumes on Idra's lack of respect for TL, and I'm still trying to understand how my friend of so many years has become so vindictive, egotistical, and petty.

Honestly to me this is about the moderators saying to Idra that they can shit on him if they want to and he can't do anything about it, it is out of spite. You want Idra to kiss your ass and he isn't, so you ban him? Very poor decision in my opinion.

This is not, has never been, and will never be the basis for moderation decisions on TL. We really don't give a shit whether or not Idra likes us, but we expect every forum user to behave with a certain level of civility. Idra has consistently shown that he will shit on the forum rules. He has repeatedly told us he doesn't care about our website, not even enough to simply not post to save us these headaches. Because of the player that he is, and the benefit he adds to the community, we have been exceedingly lenient. We have let Idra get away with things no other user could, and yet every time he crosses the line so far that we must take action, he returns with a poorer attitude and stronger hubris.

No one has ever asked Idra to kiss our asses. That's not how we operate; it's neither productive nor effective. I will say that Greg has got some ass-kissing to do my way, but that's a personal matter that has nothing to do with the website. I really miss my old brood war buddy Greg, and I've had just about enough of the selfish, childish, egomaniac ESPORTS gremlin he's becoming.

To say that Idra shouldn't be blamed for how Chill's been harassed, or to tell us we ought to just buck up and tolerate his shit, is incredibly ignorant. I think we deserve a little more respect than this.

This makes you wonder at the sheer lack of appreciation from some well known members of the community. In this case both Idra and Cruncher. They both benefit incredibly from the work that the TL admins have done and continue to do. Their response, troll the forum and create a shitstorm that you guys have to clean up.

It's the attitude of self-importance that really irks me. I mean yes you have some standing in the community but the people that built and maintain this site deserve better than to have two supposedly professional gamers acting like children.

It is just disrespectful and incredibly ungrateful. On top of this the TL guys come out with a mature and reasoned response and some members of the community go apeshit. Doesn't say much for the collective intelligence of some sections of the human race.

Anyway, I don't normally rant but damn this is disapointing. To the TL guys, good luck. I don't know how you keep it up when faced with this stupidity.

Well to be honest; as much as i enjoy watching IdrA play and i do root for him during tournaments; this ban is more than justified - the reasoning that his contributions to the community and the strategy forum justify a more leniant approach to his ridiculously terrible posting history, but that excuse has wearing thin.

To people claiming freedom of speech - that is simply hilarious, i'd find it hard to take that argument seriously. IdrA needed to learn that he does not have free reign here, and i appreciate the moderators taking a stand against a very strong personality in the community.

Over 2000 posts about his ban? Man I feel like all of this stuff only adds to his legend, his name gets out there, people form opinions about him one way or another, he ultimately gets MORE views on his stream or whenever he plays in tournaments... IdrA's cult of personality, bm or not, is really growing rapidly compared to others.

Not to mention he is a superb player who only seems to get better. I have a feeling IdrA's going to become the most popular/well known player in all of e-sports, if he's not already

The difference being that streaming is something extraneous, whereas having your ID on you is almost a necessity.

Oh, and instead of "don't walk around", you could have said "don't carry your ID and wallet". It's much more fitting.

It's not a "flaw" at all. It's actually completely logical.

Whether this justification makes the act morally just is completely different and is honestly subjective, which seems to be why people are so divided on this.
