anyway, can i add any of u guys as soon as i get my sc2 up and running tmr?
do not personally know of anyone who plays sc2 in sg and i guess it is time for me to make new friends in the community and also you guys know how lonely bnet 2.0 can get sometimes.
I was low Plat in the US Beta, and D- in iccup for SCBW, so I still have much to learn. Would love to play with some experienced players and learn more pointers on how to improve my game.
im watching my bro play campaign. gameplay wise the challenge is down a notch from brood war. probably to cater to new players. there are also some rpg elements like unlockable upgrades and exploration. but the story is fantastic.
lol nirvana, when you're #1 with like 10293810293812903 rating, its quite hard to not be matched against anyone else. btw are you starting a new team or planning some team sg thing for sc2?

yea my fren is planning to make a site for the starcraft sg community, he already has a wow guild site lol. dunno if theres any interest or what would become of it, we might host tournaments and sg matches there too, whatever the community wants. any ideas?

+1 for community site. it will be good for local scene.
To check your placement number thingy open your friends list and click add friend. It should say "Your Placement Number: xxx" at the top right of the window that appears.
Need practice partners (especially zerg) and can play most of the time because I'm done with school.
EDIT: HypnoticPoo we are in the same division! EDIT 2: Make sure you add the people on the list even if they add you because Bnet2.0 doesn't automatically add people who added you to your friends list.

Haha yeah kinda sucks though i lost 1 placement match because b.net chose to dc me when i was winning. Have to grind up the leagues again adsadadad ):
EDIT: Update me im terran in the first post, also i just noticed that there are a shitload of Ts..

which aspect of SEA server you would like to know?

we will gain access to US server in 2 months,in the mean time just train 1v1 like crazy then create a new acc in US server and go diamond rank.
As for custom games its not like no 1 is playing, its just the stupid list of games repeat itself and we dunno which one is a new map .

It's true that custom games are a joke and there are fewer people (500-1000 games at peak times, out of 20k total for bnet; almost impossible to find 3v3 and 4v4 games unless it's the most active peak times...) but the other issues to do with latency shouldn't affect you guys seeing the server is located in your country!
ggs :3 Would have been nice if Azz didn't screw up his wall and have 7 idle probes for 2-3 minutes so we can keep a cleansheet but oh well next time! :D
awesome event there!! how i wish i could train with you guys... I feel so lonely playing against random people who don't even respond when i try to chat them up. thanks blizzard for no chat rooms.
check out the only 2 diamond divisions on SEA. SG REPRESENTING!!!
unfortunately i predict that the SEA server wont last long aussies get worse lag to SEA then to the USA server so when the US access is granted EVERY AU player will move over.
Given that 90% of the top players are are AU (this is a fact, 9/10 of my games are vs au players) the ladder will then be empty and die of as well. yesterday at abt 1am i searched for 20 mins. and then i won my match and got 4 points. lol. glade was searching for 10 mins at abt 1pm today. The player base is just too small. There are about 1k games at peak times, to put things into perspective the entire bnet has 25k games.
anyway deepblue is some 20 year old sg guy too doing well in ladder. sg fighting!
actually the rest of the SEA players are playing campaign so dont worry too much about your ladder games.. it will increase soon after most of them have completed campaign.
maybe organising some friendly matches among ourselves can get the current community talking to each other. The more experienced players can offer some time to help newer players if they decided to venture into multiplayer after their campaign.

It's not dead, but not very alive either. Most of the queues and fans are probably DOTA and WoWplayers. I'm not sure how competitive WC3 classic is here.
What I think is lacking is SG's players metagame experience. I do believe that there are some locals with very good hand/eye coordination but just haven't had the amount of exposure. I didn't play SC and WC3 much back then because I was poor and could only afford bootleg versions :p
But I got onto the bandwagon when a WoW aus guildie linked me a Bisu match and I was OMFG. Played about 200+ matches in Beta, and constantly watching Day9Tv, Blizhouter, HDStarcraft and Husky really helps you get addicted to the 'omg & amazing' Now I'm on TL forums. I've managed to hit platinum in Beta Phase2 as a new comer before dropping to gold, as beta has a very niche platinum/diamond standard.
I've played with some local players and most of them tell me they can't reach the korean standards or high APMs and I worry is that they would give up.
I do encourage whoever i come across not to give up, as being inspired by fellow Terran Painuser My 20cents worth :p

Will it be with the same singapore team again? There were some pretty lackluster protoss players(not you)
Well I think taking the 5 top ranked diamond players among SG would be fair, if the team VS aus are already our top 5 then I don't see why they should not stick with the same team.

Same situation as you (but in a year's time :p), bought the US version but kind of regret it.You can unlock the american server on SEA but its not available yet I think. The lag is fine from SG -> US though so US -> SG should be ok (bad minor premise), I think you should get the SEA version.
yes u shld get SEA. sea gives u access to 2 servers, while the US just one
for the sg team its gonna be the top 4 players of coz, im very sure the last team selected were the top 5 in sg atm. i guess tendersteak/tagan/deepblue are a toss up for the top 6 but i cant thjnk of anyone else. well only managed to play 3 sgers on ladder and added them all to friends. theres no1 else i know off doing well on ladder and if theres anyone good thats where they will show up so will be taking a close look at that. basically if u can get 70%+ win record and top 10 in diamond u WILL be in the sg team lol. anyway when duckie decided to 1v1 hardcore we will have a terran in a few weeks ^^

it will be easier to see if its in line format like this

well a secluded lan shop/arcade in ang mo kio center, above the Macdonald's (opposite ang mo kio hub) has starcraft 2 as well. Saw 2 people playing it there.
Since such a secluded lan shop has SC 2 I think most decent lan shops should have it as well.
However I walked in hoping to pawn some noobs, alas only 2 people playing against each other, all the other teenagers were playing some sudden attack FPS or dota.
I dream of the day when I can walk into a lan shop, thor/nuke rush some noob ah beng and hear him curse "nnbccb!!!!" from across the room......
Come on guys lets popularise SC 2 into our local LAN shop scene and make my dream happen..... I know you guys have the same wish too........
Rush 'slightly favoured' players and get +23 +23 with bonus a few times and standard/safe when you are favoured and win at least 60% of the time. Also ban Delta quadrant, LT, Desert Oasis.

Pangshai, do a lot of 2gate openings (11/13 gates and make zeals vP/vZ, or 12gate 15core 15gate stalkers vT). A ton of players play blindly early on and have very bad reactions to early aggression. It'll also keep you from getting cheesed in a lot of cases. Just outmicro and transition as needed.
If you want to abuse it more, ban the long rush distance maps.

Anywhere from 5 to 20. I mix up ladder 1v1 with custom games, various team formats, and single player, because otherwise I'd get burnt out.

in an effort to improve our competitive 1v1 level the Singapore team selection for the next match (probably vs NZ) will be open to everyone. hopefully this will motivate some of us and make us train harder, i dont see any other way lol.
the top 4 will be selected as team Singapore, and these top 4 will be BASED on the OVERALL ladder ranks 1 week before the next match is scheduled. if the player isnt free or wishes not to play we will move down to the next highest ranked singaporean player. that website to be used is www.sc2ranks.com as that looks the most updated.

yeap im thinking along the same lines. the pple who practise more on ladder will also be more updated with the current strats etc. and theres still tons of time before the next tourney to get in the top 4.
also tournaments mean everyone has to commit themselves to be there on that day, im sure some good players wont be free, or there might be some unlucky brackets etc so ladder seems like a more fair opportunity for everyone to prove themselves.
that sounds good nirvana. i'm not sure how long yongming's tournament is going to take though. its played once weekly. and its a 20 player round robin (20 weeks?)

That's the least we can expect really, given that we could swap the Beta client around with little effort anyway. Making us download another client would be pretty poor.
SG has 10 slots for their team, the 6 chosen already are all in the top 10 @ sc ranks (with the exception of ice). So its just 4 more slots available, at this rate it looks like the remaining slots will go to Sonyalouise OxygeN SwEEt Jix. Deadline date for ladder will probably be next Monday coz i think the league starts the following weekend
also some more SEA commentary vods are out
oh i played redachon 8 straight ladder games today lol he tried really hard but pvt is too much in the favour of P imo. whats worse is looks like blizzard is gonna nerf terran lol
Hi Nirvana: Terran and Protoss seem to be pretty evenly matched imo..its all about the right unit composition at the right time.
Any protoss player will find it a pain to deal with bioballs and siege tanks in strong positions and the pressure is on the protoss player to maneuver and successfully cast spells to even the odds. And of cos the magic word - ghosts -> that can also make a big difference in battles.
Just want to start a small discussion if you dont mind.
In my mind, it takes a lot more effort to tech storm, keep casters spread against EMPs, land good FFs/storms/feedbacks, and win a land battle that way than it does to stim and 1a with a bioball while firing EMPs.
But I am obviously not at Nirvana's level, where he can make up for these difficulties by not being bad. Interested to see what he has to say on the topic.
i had a huge disadvantage at start and he really pulled off all those fancy stuff but somehow protoss solves and lets me comeback lol. hes the best terran on sea btw
Can anybody recommend me some recent VODs of the various matchups? So far I've pretty much just gone 1 gate core and gone collo. It's gotten me to diamond but I'm not really improving. Or does anybody good just want to play me so I watch the reps and figure out new ways of playing? thanks. I need to figure out how to use HTs and phoenixs (whats the plural of phoenix?)...
On August 18 2010 17:36 aLt)nirvana wrote: well i think terran is alot harder to control/produce stuff, meaning an evenly skilled protoss will beat an evenly skilled terran more often.
heres the last game vs red archon in our series of 8 ladder games.

I must watch all your games.
Quite a few of my PvTs involve getting a macro lead, losing 80 supply in exchange for 20 of T's, and then hilariously dying.

i think protoss is alot easier to control then terran. let me eleborate > at high levels a terran has to have very good control if he wants to use BIO to fight protoss, he has to constantly kite with his army, a second of laspe in concentration and his whole army is stormed to death. say you have 4 templers + its alot easier to storm a ball then it is to control it. 1a is sucide against any decent protoss with storm
and feedback outranges emp. so all you have to do is spread your temps far apart then feedback the ghosts as they come, of coz u always have to have an ob to see his ghosts coming. worse come to worse if ur temps get emped, dont fight, just move back and warp in up 8 new templars with ur gateways and viloa
i know a ton of high level terrans who have trouble vs protoss late game cause of this. also keep in mind production is alot harder for terrans with diff buildings and build times and then moving that army to the fight unlike protoss where ur just warp everything in with 1 hotkey right smack in the battle.
I only skimmed through it, but that was a sweet game nirvava : ] Seems like the key against tanks is to move out into the middle of the map before terran sieges so he can't siege quite as close to your base, backup wait for unsiege then attack. Seems quite obvious, but.... not? lol
Got any games against mmm? Particularly vs early marine+marauder pressure
EDIT: Are you sure feedback outranges emp? Thought it was the other way round o.O
yea im pretty sure feedback outranges emp unless the ghost anticiaptes and emps b4 the templar reaches infront of it and which will prolly leave the templar emped barely inside the radius

In my case I think I'm just not getting enough stuff. Your rep showed you had a lot more templar in your mix and just constantly stormed/feedbacked, while I storm him/FF medivacs, he runs out of the way with stim, chargelots melt, and I am sad. When your 12 warpgates kicked in you could absolutely hammer him with nonstop spells.
I'll keep working at it, still only at 600~ points anyhow. Very appreciative of any reps you post, of course!
$%^& there are a lot of terrans DX And i'm starting to think it's my worst match up simply because I'm not patient enough to wait for the terran to unsiege lol
<.< at least i'm plat div rank 1 now >.> diamond here i come!
Question though, how do you best deal with mass muta (+ lings)? I guess this is kind of a map specific question since usually I try to put on pressure and get the zerg to invest in other stuff. But on desert oasis it's kinda difficult cause of the long path. Specifically I had a zerg FE against me, hatch before pool, into mass muta. Usually I'd just get a 2nd gate asap and put on pressure with chronoboosted zealots, to delay whatever he was gonna do. Should I do the same thing on desert oasis? I tried void rays that game, but he got 2 queens at both bases, then i saw the mutas and I switched to phoenixes, but only out of 1 stargate. He eventually got way more mutas then i could handle. So I guess I'm asking 2 questions: How do you respond to hatch before pool build on desert oasis? How do you fight off mass muta/ling?
I tend to open 9 pylon 12 gate on desert oasis btw. But i'm starting to think that 10 pylon is better all the time.

If he goes mass muta off 2 hatches I usually get 2 stargates and get air superiority, which leads into being able to move out freely and attack ovies/lift queens and the like. 1 stargate won't give you enough phoenixes to match 2 hatch + queens. Making too many phoenixes, though, leaves you more open to Z swapping over to hydras or whatever else. Either way, ensure you have cannons + sentries with army (guardian shield is massively effective vs muta bounce).
On DO the rush distance is appalling so you probably should have tried to just expand yourself and get a forge/a few cannons for defense, then go air, rather than 2 gate against hatch before pool. If it's a closer map and he hatches first, 2 gate can ruin his day, as I'm sure you already know.

he left lol cause the game was over (i had dts in his base again) and he instant searched the next game. he always gets angry when he losses but thats a good common trait in top players, so they force themselves to play better next time

in an effort to improve our competitive 1v1 level the Singapore team selection for the next match (probably vs NZ) will be open to everyone. hopefully this will motivate some of us and make us train harder, i dont see any other way lol.
the top 4 will be selected as team Singapore, and these top 4 will be BASED on the OVERALL ladder ranks 1 week before the next match is scheduled. if the player isnt free or wishes not to play we will move down to the next highest ranked singaporean player. that website to be used is www.sc2ranks.com as that looks the most updated.

Hey guys, the Colosseum tournament is on 29 August, on the same day of your meetup, methinks. If you're interested, do come down during this week to sign up and register for the Bronze, Silver and Gold 1v1 competition ($10 signup fee) or the open category 2v2 which requires no signup fee at all!
It'll be great to come down and get to know more SC2 players and build the local community even further.
btw del has other commitments so i have taken over the running of the SEA league basically all the rules will be the same except for the matchday timing/flexibility which i will change abit so its more convenient for everyone
The top 9 + Ice have qualified for team Singapore for the first 2 weeks at least of the nation war league. Grats guys!!
Will now add the final team below after asking the players if they wish to play. Update: progrezzion just pmed me that he is singapore, and he is really high ranked. he will be included in the team. Baron is not Singaporean, hes a chinese living in sg so he cant be included.
Confirmed players of Team Singapore nirvana.929 P deepblue.112 P hghx.893 Z tendersteak.722 P revenant.839 Z ice.697 Z sonyalouise.712 T progrezzion.333 T gosu.980 T sweet.222 Z

I was once 703, but now go down to 654 haha, have to practice much more the lineup is looking good for team singapore, believe there will be many EPIC matches in weeks to come
humm 29 aug i got to work half day, only can go to princep st after 5pm, you guys will probably stay there longer right? : )
for how to get there i suggest:
take MRT to douby ghaut station, exit and walk towards The Cathay cinema complex, walk past the cinema and around the SOTA (school of the arts, its a cool big building after Cathay, you can't miss it). The whole stretch opposite SOTA is princep street, if I'm right the there are 2 small lan shops along the small 1-2 level shop house style buildings there. I wonder if homeground lan shop is one of them.
If those 2 lan shops are full further down there is parklane mall, where there are at least 4-5 lan shops in that complex. Parklane mall's lan shops have a lot of history, I used to play BroodWar there with my clan mates 10 years ago. Now 10 years later we can play SC 2 there. Deja Vu....
It will be nice to go for me but my A-level prelim is coming liao. Kenna stuck in my hostel studying.....sianz.
Anyway, any of you guys know a lanshop with SC2 installed, preferably near Aljunied or Serangoon areas....I only knew one with Taiwan version, which is closing the Open Beta this week, and no where to start on my SEA CE....(coz no laptop during A-level...darn it)
Hope u stay 1st & make it to blizzcon nirvana, tell the world sg players r all hunks & our babes are hot! Maybe that will get korea or blizzard's attention & shift progaming to sg : )
Btw for the gathering and playing at lan shops for casual fun and tournaments I suggest using Bnet mobile authenticator to safeguard your SC 2 login info against keyloggers at LAN shops(for iphone).
I don't know if other smartphone users can use the app too. (log into your Bnet account, go to account security -> manage security settings, download Bnet mobile authenticator)
delurking after reading TL posts for a long long time.
i'm a diamond ~500 looking for all races practice partners or for friendly 1v1s in the evenings till late SGT hoping to improve! pm me for a friendly game or 2v2s, 3v3s and other stuff!

were u able to get the authenticator to work? i only saw that its for eu/na or korea accounts.
Yes it works. A Bnet account manages all your blizzard games. Hence an authenticator will add protection. I've had my WoW account hacked 4years after I started the game, and now everyday i receive blizzard spam after recovering my items. You can DL the authenticator onto Android or IOS, or get a token authenticator from ComicsConnection.
Trust me, it's worth it. All WoW players should know how many accounts get hacked, and it will only be a matter of time before SC2 accounts get compromised, as the hackers won't know that you're exclusive to SC2 or not. They are just aiming for Bnet accounts.

How do the authenticators work?
After authenticating it on battle net, when you try to login into your account, there will be a bar that says " authentication code ". After you key in your username and password, they will ask for the authentication code. That is where you turn to your iphone or andriod powered phone with the battle net authenticator application launched. then there will be a few numbers that show up. key in those few numbers under the auth code bar. Everytime you log in, you'll have to do that.

Yeah quite mafan... Also should I get Starhub or Singtel broadband? I live in an apartment so Singtel would be better right? I'm thinking about the new 10mbps for like $42/month plan. Should be fast enough for me and it's pretty cheap.

As far as I know, the lan shop i go to has to use your own account for SC2. Not sure about other lan. Mind to ask your firend about which lan he went to that has the 'special lan account' ? THX
From what I know as one of my ex-basketball teammembers run a LAN shop, most LAN shops purchased the retail edition, so there is still no actual LAN, because you are still using the BNET network.
Blizzard made a SC2 Professional edition which is supposedly used for LAN in tournaments, so I doubt any LAN shops bought these versions.
I have a Ipod Touch as well, but I bought my token authenticator from ComicsConnection for only SGD15. It looks like any other token if you do electronic banking. The phone authenticators require broadband to sync every now and then.
I'll be at the colossium on Sunday so hope you guys have fun

yea del i have all the reps will do the upload with the rest of the nation war reps when they are done
its a small meetup consisting of me, fate25, myheronoob, gtp, ddengster. we played abit of 1v1 then 2v2 ladder and then 4v4 ladder when gtp left. haha. dunno what else to describe.
let's have a another meetup at december, since most of the students here will be free for exams for at least the next 6months or so (no excuse for them huh)
was 17-0 on Kr sever, till i loss then i started trying lots of random builds lol. here is one really unorthodox build ive been experimenting with.
played mysticprime today and was nearly shitting myself coz earlier today i saw comments on a rep he played on gosugamers and how he did some nydus ownage or something, didnt actually watch the game tho.
Gave that a try in a ladder game vs Revenant, it's pretty fun to play. Seems like you really have to keep on the pressure though while teching or Z can just macro up and consume you later on.
Any diamond players want a P to practice with, add me on bnet please.
Just wanted to give some thanks to Xeen for helping me practice with PvP, some hilarious games (lol DTs), really helped me refine my build. Now, if only I had some T partners...

Awesome news about enlistment. I've got 14 more weeks myself to ORD, not long to go, but it's still a pain in the ass.
I was trying out phoenixes and cutting units slightly to get 3 warpgates up faster, then holding the ramp with stalkers/sentries. Every time the 4gate tries to push up, FF a few units off, kill them from range. Eventually you get past the weak point where your gates are just coming up and you have only 1-2 phoenixes, and you can start chipping at their econ. Regardless of the build, so long as you have a good amount of sentries (you can always warp in another for an instant FF) and stalkers to kill trapped units, you can do alright until tech is up. And make sure he doesn't have a lowground pylon in range of your high ground.

EDIT: comex tomorrow. i might go just to pick up a mouse since my usual mouse broke down and i'm using some suuuper old microsoft optical mouse that jumps around.
I never thought about going for fast pheonixes... What about korean 4 gates? PvP is so cheesy that I'm forced to go for a 10 pylon 10 gate because I find it difficult to hold off early pressure. Are later gate timings viable? I'm going to find myself a P practice partner to work on that soon though.

vs Korean 4gate you really really have to get used to knowing what the build looks like - then cut tech, get your gates down, and match his production (or close to it). If you dont pump units asap you wont be able to kill proxy pylons and that's gg right there. If you can predict it (1gate core with no unit, only 1 gas and taking probes off), you can react.
I usually 12gate PvP unless it's a 2player map, then I'm 10gating in case of proxygates.
The biggest issue I have with phoenixes is that while you can hold off a 4gate, they don't really help against it (besides scouting/harass). It certainly doesn't compare to having an immortal or colossus come out, or simply more units.

I believe you have to consistently win against players in a higher league. After a game, check the other players profile and see what league he's in, if you see a lot of gold and up you'll most likely promote soon, you might even have to lose a game to promote lol If you see only silver and down... well keep working on it, you'll get there ^^; Do note that this is just what I have seen and might not be accurate at all.

There are a couple of threads about the ranking system on TL but basically just win a lot more than you lose and you'll get promoted.
Oh and I am hoping to go officer or if cannot something chill like life guarding at the pool (i heard from a friend that it's just wake up, go to camp, unlock gate, play psp, lock gate, go home).

I get cheesed about 25% of the time at 1k~. It's ridiculous how many players just seem to proxy rax/6 pool/proxy gate their way along. That's not even counting people who have no plan beyond 'mass lings and all-in' or a race-equivalent plan. I just 10gate on 2 player maps, 12gate on anything else. I can claw back a macro lead from good play. I can do a lot less when I'm cheesed dead.
Singapore team is the top10, roughly, when Nirvana does the picking (http://sc2divisions.com/custom/singapore-custom-ladder-division/341).
PS: Any diamond zergs around 1k want to practice vP? Please add/PM me!
the 4 who are playing will be hghx revenant tagan and ravana
in the future ill be using blizzard top200 list to make team selection, its just alot more accurate. i.e me ice oxy were the top 3 accorcding to the list thats why they chose us for the top 16 sea invite
Man...All the tourneys are during myprelim week T.T. Btw, yongming, you might wanna consider asking/ adding HDPhoenix to the caster list. He's a Singaporean caster on youtube.
eh pangshai, VOD here and scroll to the last 3 games for the ace match if you're interested to watch it for now, the last match really quite exciting, down to the wire type games with the lead swinging back and forth. if you want replays, wait for nirvana to update the nation war forum or pm me i can email you
also ask you something, that day you managed to help us get the SEA nation war event posted to the calendar and also for the casters to link their stream to the event, just wondering how we can go about doing that ourselves, i tried looking around but couldn't find a way, nirvana also tried pm-ing someone else (i think plexa) a couple of times but couldn't get it done. can advise? regular members can do? or need admins?
regular members can't do that. you can PM any staff in advance if you have an event. not all events will be put up there though. they have to be decently big.
I Just watched HDStarcraft's cast of Nirvana (yes our countryman!) vs SeleCt (top of US ladder now) and I must say that it was a bloody awesome PvT match
the links are listed below so go check them out when free
I would surely check the na servers out to see what the players are like and ladder a bit. Sea would still be my main playing region, however I think the number of players would drop by quite a significant amount as most of the Aussies and new Zealand players are going to move there

Nice, then what are u waiting for! Go get a copy immediately and play the game. Jk if you have a levels then that's more important and man u must have a ton of patience not having bought a copy of sc2 till now haha
Lol watching streams and replays and Day9 dailies since last year till now has already made a huge dent in my report card. It's not cheap too. Will Singapore have its own tourneys or events? I sure hope so. The SC scene in SG is simply embarrassing.

There's a surprisingly existent scene of tournaments for the SEA region, and Singapore has been doing well in the Nation wars.
I think there are a couple of local events going on, but there are just too many forums and threads to compile everything,
There's some event going on at Raygun pretty soon, like end of the month? HGHx was posting about it during the last nationwars, if anyone has details, can post here so that yongming can update the starting thread?
Then there's nationwars which occurs every Sunday, SG plays off against other nations and those are ALWAYS streamed
Nirvana is also hosting a nirvana's KOTH, [link here], you should check that out when free.
http://www.sc2sea.com is also a great site where alot of the singaporeans are active and update stuff, so you should look for stuff there too, then there's other sites like www.sc2kaki.com i think there's some singaporean events posted there, one that was concluded at coliseum at iluma previously, there was quite a decent turnout the last time. so yeah, we're not lacking events, you just have to look for them.
there are also discussions for starting up new events, join the sc2sea.com forums, give some input, if anything, or even better, organize an event after your busy period!
Been Ghosting ard this forums, glad too see so many SG players playing SC2~~ Are you guys going to NA Servers? I am still undecided due to my lousy PC ... Lousy PC + Lousy ping will = GG
Just played my first placement match on NA, I'm definitely feeling a slight bit of latency, not too bad but it's kind of annoying I guess, after I'm used to SEA latency lol. I forsee it being a little annoying in clutch situations like landing EMPs.
It's still playable, but in the long run this can prove to be a problem. It's really noticeable especially when I'm trying to kite with a bioball. Needs lan latency...

Huh, maybe I'll stick to SEA for general play/laddering then.
Singtel gives me some lag on NA, it's noticeable but not really game-breaking. After a few games I don't really feel it anymore, but it's quite a change from SEA.

Come catch our last week of King of SEA Nationwars vs the Thais LIVE with HDPhoenix and me on Sunday 3rd Oct 5pm @ www.ustream.tv/channel/mezzastarcraft
The Thais will be fielding their big guns Redarchon, Indy, Supercheap and Pandoramon! We will have Nirvana, Tendersteak, Revenant and Oxygen squaring off for us!
The exact lineup and more Nationwars info can be found here.
For more SEA tournaments, events and news, you can check out www.sc2sea.com, a website by the SEA sc2 players for SEA sc2 players!

basically a kind soul typed in all the Singaporean player's bnet.ids into one list and the website compiled all the Singaporean SC2 players into one page rated by bnet ladder points. It's not a real Blizzard Bnet 'division' but its just nice to see where all the Singaporean players are ranked at for the moment.

Culture it as you will, it's still a degeneration of the major language of the country. There's a reason it's only used colloquially and not present in any sort of large occasion.
For example, the army is full of it, but when there's a report to write or announcements to be made, comprehensible speech rears its head. That is kind of important for a commentary that many may be listening to.
On October 06 2010 19:42 Dfgj wrote: There's a reason it's only used colloquially and not present in any sort of large occasion.
The reason is that there's still a huge inferiority complex in Singapore nowadays(stemming from our colonial past?). This complex is pretty obvious if you look around.
This inferiority complex causes ministers and economically-minded leaders of our country to abandon a product of our multiracial society in favour of so-called proper English. The official justification for doing so is highly capitalist (hurts our ability to deal with foreigners) and simply untrue.
It's fairly ironic how anybody can claim an absolute standard of English for Singlish to measure up against when one big reason English is the lingua franca is that it's highly flexible and readily accepts new words.
i used to think the same way as you, dfgj. singlish was the uncouth, crude side of singapore. made you sound uneducated and barbaric. in some ways, that's true. but when you're in a foreign country, you come to recognise it as a badge. its something that says "i'm proud to be singaporean." you hear it and you feel warm inside.
Singlish is far less a product of a multiracial society and far more a result of vastly differing standards of English. I'm not talking about your high-school classmates in top schools, Derme, but the average person. Singlish in a lot of cases ends up being damaging to communication, especially in a business/announcement situation. This is why (as you'll see in the Army), anyone with good English skills is pressed into doing proofreading for superior officers - because many write with Singlish's deformed grammar, and want to look more respectable in correspondence.
However, this is no place for an ideological debate on something that is very practical. A commentary needs to be easily understood by the entire audience; if yours is 100% local Singaporean, perhaps, but that's not necessarily the case.
pangshai: I find it one of the more repulsive aspects of what is otherwise a generally modern culture. There are far more ways to show your national pride than garbling the working language of your country, as I see it. From an international viewpoint, it does make you sound rather thick, and that's not the sort of national identity I'd want to develop.
I don't believe Singlish is damaging to communication. If it's so ubiquitous and everyone understands it, how does using Singlish impede your message from getting across to the other person? If anything, English would be confusing.
Therefore, "proper" English is less advantageous to communication. Why use it for announcements then? It seems to me "proper" English is used in business communiques because this "proper" English is deemed high-class enough for official decisions. Which I have already claimed is due to a cultural inferiority complex.
What I really take issue with is your claim that Singlish represents bad English and should be considered unworthy, when I feel that different forms of English should not be evaluated based on Queen's English or whatever else you consider worthy of being used as an absolute scale.
Whoever is in charge of this thread, are we still allowed to discuss it here, or should we take it to PM/MSN?
woah, been checking the SG TL community thread for updates the whole day and came back to a whole bunch of posts.
firstly, thanks pangshai, i did it for kicks, because someone said I sound Jamaican, and I stated that I was Singaporean, and I had to prove it, so I did it. So you guys do know I'm a born and bred Singaporean.
However, I have to agree with Dfgj on some counts. English spoken with a Singaporean accent is a different thing altogether compared to English which has its grammar and vocab contorted and sprinkled with colloquials. Singlish, in its true form as spoken by an ah beng, is nothing to be proud of, and I don't see how it should be made into a national identity. However, adding a "Lahhhh" at the end of stuff, can instantly endear yourself to a fellow countryman especially when you meet them overseas and it can instantly break the ice.
That being said, I'll do it for fun? Or maybe a full Singlish cast with Kelly :D But definitely won't do something regional/international stuff in singlish, because as Dfgj said, the other party might just find it hard to understnad.
on another note, since we're done with Nationwars and have to sit and wait for the result of the AU vs NZ matchup to find out if we're 1st or 2nd (i think gg also lar, they're fielding all the big guns), a couple of people are looking to form up tournaments and looking for location sponsors and gift/prize sponsors for local events. Malaysia, Aus and NZ seem to have tons of stuff and tournaments going on, but the local scene in Singpaore is still abit muted, so if anyone have suggestions, or willing to put up a cash kitty in exchange for advertising/plugging time on stream, there are some of us who will be more than happy to discuss stuff with you :D just pm me and i'll put you in touch with those people.
LASTLY, nirvAnA's king of the hill will be live @ 8pm SGT, stream to be confirmed, won't be mine as I'm still at work. check www.sc2sea.com for live updates, i'll post when i can
It's a Singapore community thread. Given that this relates to commentary and Singapore to a degree, I say we can keep it. 'course, I'm no mod.
Anyways, Derme, you've built a whole post on the idea that the only people in the world are Singaporeans. That's great, but they're not the only ones who might watch a SEA stream, and not the only people you'll deal with. I'm not even going to touch the whole point about how speaking normal english is somehow 'high class' and due to an 'inferiority complex'. There's nothing pretentious about having passable sentence structure and grammar.
I'd much rather hear streams in clear english. If the commentators want to toss in some local slang (hokkien, whatever), go for it, so long as it's understandable. I do agree with Mezza that it's fine to toss in the occasional slang term, but Singlish is far more than the slang - it's the entire manner of speaking (as he also brings up).
No I wasn't talking about communicating with other people. I think you've rather misread me because I've expressly stated that I take issue with your assertion that Singlish is bad English.
Why aren't you going to touch the point about inferiority complexes? Seems to me it has everything to do with why the army uses "proper" English in its communiques, which was what you based your original argument on.
Are you disagreeing with me that the inferiority complex exists, or that it doesn't actually result in "normal" English being preferred over Singlish?
I'll assume its the latter. Okay then. In your example of how the army prefers "proper" English(heretofore known as p.English) over Singlish, what other reason is there the army prefers p.English over Singlish? It sure as hell isn't communication, because p.English doesn't help you communicate with soldiers better than Singlish. I'd bet it's worse for communication.
1. Have you abandoned your original premise that Singlish is bad English? If so, great and I've proved my point. The brevity of your post doesn't give me much information.
2. Yeah I am, explain why since speaking in p.English doesn't have any benefits communication-wise.
3. Clear language is highly subjective. Try telling your bunkmate "The uniquely-Singaporean Creole derivative of English is ubiquitous in our tropical island". Then tell him "Everyone say Singlish, lor".
uhm guys, i think we all need to take a chill-pill/chillax.
Speaking Greek to an Aborigine is bad for communication, similarly, speaking the Queen's English to a Hokkien-peng is bad for communication.
However, international relations/politics and in cases such as streaming games that are regional/multinational, perhaps pure Singlish would be a poor choice. but whatever, we do stuff for fun, its lighthearted and its a game, so please lets just enjoy the game, even if its in Korean, if you see beautiful play, it still works :D anyway the stream is live now for nirvAnA's KOTH.

Hello there, welcome to our ever-growing community. With more people playing hopefully one day we can have large scale tournaments like IEM being broadcasted on channel 5, with the participants fighting for a 100k top prize. One can only wish :D

It'll be too late to form SAF Esports teams for us
There have been quite a few Singaporean Starcraft Facebook Pages set up before and after the launch of the game but unfortunately ALL of these are inactive with no updates of the local events. So sign up! Because this page will try to cover all if not most of the local events as well as local and regional online scene!
go to the page and click "Like" or subscribe to it to get Singaporean SC2 News, Tournaments, Events and Information delivered directly into your Facebook Feed! Tournament event, news, organizers, etc. PM me if you want stuff added to the page. Alternatively, you can also PM me on the sc2sea forums, or post it up there or here on the community thread, as long as the admins get hold of it, it'll be posted up! Any idea who owns the twitter feed for twitter.com/starcraftsg, i'm interested in hooking it up so that the updates go both ways! contact me for further details

hahaha! given most singaporeans (the older generation's) stance on how gaming affects studies and all, the chances of it happening are almost zero :p.
well mindsets take time to change and its true that our conservative mindsets will take a damn long while to mold but just take a look at dota, we had a team in dota that honestly was at some point in time feared in the asia. let alone just "can compete at the national levels".
we just don't have the right sponsorships and people in place to nurture them.
anyhow, look forward to tournaments to come, there are wheels in motion to set up local tournaments to spice up the local scene! so you can do your part by spreading the word!

I didn't study much at all and still got into University overseas, so they're just being spoilsports.
I know it's the standard 'more hours = better' mindset though Same thing you see in the proteams with practice.

The day a singaporean reaches the RO16 of a major international tournament is the day i shave my body completely bald. Promise.
how does WCG not count. nirvana's already got to the ro16 in 2001 or 2002.
also, starcraft (and other games) has been broadcasted on channel U before, back when the grand finals were held in singapore in 2005. it was more documentary style though, but there was some game footage.
Will be great if some 1 could mass some games with me b4 i get back to laddering. I'm out of touch with this game for at least a month ? Just add me, but i won't be able to play the next 2 days though. Thanks.
hdstarcraft has a matchup between nirvana and select, can go look for it, honestly some of our SEA players are really top notch. nirvana, redarchon and glade to name a few and nirvana's singaporean :D

guys, I'll be hosting/streaming this event later, called sc2sea: hwaiTING! (pronounced FIGHTING! in korean) and in our season 1 episode 2, we're gonna be having our very own OxygeN! as the guest star!
He'll be facing off against all different ranked ladder players and will be commenting on the game as he's playing and giving us his insight on the matchups, so you can either sign up to play aginst him, ANY RANKS ARE WELCOME! We'll of course set him some interesting handicaps if you aren't top tier diamond!
(this is like TL's Attack! and we're hoping to let our community play against the top SEA players! last week it was MoonGlade! and we're planning for more to come!)
i´ll be coming to singapore in 2 weeks, anybody any advice where cool partying r other stuff is going or someone wanna meet up and do smth? will be staying 4 days before i fly to sydney!
i haven't clubbed in forever, but Zouk is Mambo nights on wednesday nights, its a spectacle in itself. there's always st james for clubbing, and i don't know, i'm old you gotta ask the young punks on the forums :D i'm too old and creaky to go hit up clubs

If you haven't already heard, SEA Nation League Season 2 is DEFINITELY happening and there's a big name sponsor on board which means CASH prizes! (I'm gonna leave nirvAnA to make the big tournament info post and not give too much away in my post here).
And since nirvAnA is now the main tournament organizer in a tournament with a prize pool, he has graciously handed over team SG manager duties to me! So my first job as manager is to select the team which will be representing our country for Season 2!
So this thread, given our ex manager's blessing to jump the gun and start recruiting and arranging for trails ASAP even before his main post for KOSEA, IS FOR TEAM SG HOPEFUL SIGNUPS!
If you are 1. A Singaporean Citizen or Permanent Resident 2. In Diamond League 3. Holding your own on the ladder and custom games vs those in the Top 200 list, or even better... 4. PART of the SEA Top 200 list 5. Keen to represent your country (and hopefully win some prizes while you're at it) 6. Have a SEA Starcraft 2 Account 7. Able to commit (as many of) your Sunday afternoons to evenings for live games from end November till January
WE WANT YOU!
what you need to do is to make a post HERE in the sc2sea.com subforum in following format, for example
SEA BNET ID: Mezza.445 RACE: Protoss ADDITIONAL INFO: anything else goes here, like what money tournaments have you won, what's your current ladder rating or how high have you placed in the previous top 200 SEA pages, all that info goes here!
We will be looking to retain some players from the previous starting lineup as core players as well as to give newer players a runout and the ability to prove themselves. There's nothing set in stone at the moment but we'll be looking at tournament results, ladder rating, top 200 SEA historical records, and a playoff/swiss/roundrobin type tournament etc. to make the final selection for our best team possible, so if you're keen to be in on the season 2 action, sign up now by going to the original sc2sea.com thread HERE!
Team SG Selection Criteria and Opening post update on sc2sea.com If you're involved, please check the link stated below for info If you're interested to know who will be flying our flag at the upcoming nation wars and to know who our top players are, check out the link!
It's a SEA-wide clan (with some forays into NA), we have members from a bunch of places. Almost too many members these days. Most of our core group is pretty well-ranked, you can ctrl+f the tag on the last blizz top 200.
Hi my lovely singaporean teamliquid-community! ;-)
I am a german student and will study at NUS for one semester abroad starting in Jan 2011. My plane arrives at 30th dec in Singapore and I got no flat yet or anything. Would be cool, if somebody of you could help me out :-) Also I would like to get in touch with some of you to watch GSL and other tournaments together. Just write me a pm, if you are open to new people!
sc2sea.com will be hosting a community tournament and all of you guys are encouraged to join! its a free signup tournament and winner walks away with $10USD and IMMORTALITY cos you'll be featured as the first winner of the tournament on sc2sea.com
hey guys, i saw in the opening post that there's a dec 2010 TL meetup scheduled, is that still happening? yongming, any news there?
and just fyi guys, i've gotten down to linking all my VODs in one place and it can be found here link to VOD list
also, finally started uploading stuff from the sea servers and sc2sea.com events to my youtube page! hit subscribe to get the latest videos as they're released www.youtube.com/mezzastarcraft for my VODs on youtube!
also, community tournament at wednesday 6pm Singapore time for signups 7pm for start of games, seeya guys there. on www.sc2sea.com
abit hard, considering iceiceice is now in SAF, and nirvana doesn't stream games
the closest solution you can get is to watch sc2sea.com's community opens on wednesdays from 7pm onwards Singapore Time. There will inadvertently be some Singaporean players taking part, or at least the top of the SEA players facing off. Games are usually casted by myself, or unstable
Bump! Newbie SG Starcraft 2 Player here. UltimateDeep CC: 796
I'm a Clerk in the SAF Band but right now I'm trying to find time to train and practice. Just had a few Co-op games with my other clerks against AI. I was a bronze player in Season 1, but after my placement match for Season 2 which I lost to a 6 pool, I got bumped to silver in 1v1, still bronze in other leagues....Need Training!
"The last post in this thread is over two months old. If you bump this, you better have a good reason."
Btw, I don't want a SG thread to die out, I can't find any recent SG Official Threads except this one which was dated last year. Any more SG people, please come and revitalize this thread!
I think Singapore really should have a training center for SG Low Level players like me.
Btw, I placement matched 2v2 and I was damn freaking scared after kena slammed in the freaking GOLD league. I'm only a bronze player then expect me to go gold.
