go to start - in the box type 'devmgmt.msc" and take a screenshot of it - right click the yellow ones - properties - details - hardware ID - use the sites below -

Sorry just woke up I'll try to provide more info after your screenshot.

Are you sure you actually need to manually search for drivers? Everything might just work through whatever Windows Update finds and installs automatically. The driver downloads often just throw some strange software that will show up in the task-bar's notification area onto the PC instead of just updating the actual driver.

Here is the link to my screenshot of device manager.

I'm currently getting my hardware ID values and looking on those sites.
Ropid- I would use Windows update but I'm unable to connect to the internet because I'm missing my network and ethernet drivers.
|
So using the devid.com I was able to get my ethernet driver, I'm still struggling to get most of the others but i'm going to keep trying in the meantime.
EDIT: Neither site is finding a match to the hardware ID for my network controller.
EDIT2: Neither site had a match for my PCI Simple Communications Controller.
EDIT3: Neither site had a match for my SM Bus Controller.

Ok, this is my second link and screenshot after running Windows updates and searching for drivers automatically. I made a new post because I need to bump this as I need to have it solved before tomorrow, does anyone else have some advice on where to go from here?
|
please post the vendor and device ids for the devices
edit, have you not used http://support.toshiba.com/ ? just put in the model number and all the drivers are there.
|
Could you tell me how to find the vendor, it is a Toshiba laptop if that helps.
Device ID's:
Network Controller: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8179&SUBSYS_019110EC&REV_01
SM Bus Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_FF1E1179&REV_04
USB Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_FF1E1179&REV_04
USB2.0-CRW: USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0129&REV_3960
I hope this helps you.
Edit: I don't believe that site has the drivers for this model in windows 7, because this model only comes in Windows 8.
|
Did you try to install those drivers anyways? Windows Vista and 7 and 8 are all very similar internally.
|
Can you run a repair off of the master disk? If you got one.
|
Hi,
I suppose you already checked out the drivers listed on the Toshiba Support page for your laptop http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome with model Satellite C55t-A5218. If not this would be the first thing to do. I bet at least the Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility works with Windows 7. This driver should be installed.
From your second screenshot I see that the LAN driver is no longer missing, only the Wireless one. So you should have internet access now?
For wireless you could look here though I'm always sceptical installing drivers not from their vendor site. But this is the only link I found for PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8179&SUBSYS_019110EC&REV_01.
An alternative would be to install the correct driver directly from RealTek. Maybe someone else knows which one is the right one, as I don't know their corresponding device ids.
I find it strange that the device id you posted is from RealTek, though on the Toshiba support page it says Atheros WLAN. Maybe Atheros rebranded a RealTek chip? Not sure.
Hope some of this helps.

Ok so update: I followed Banaora's advice and went to the first site, which tried to charge me to download drivers so I'm straying away from that option. On Realtek's website I'm unsure of what to download. As for the Windws 7 downloads on Toshiba's websites, I'm greeted by a box when I run the install with the option "start" I start and then I get a UAC box asking if I trust the program, when I click ok, the install just stops. Nothing further happens, any help?
|
Yeah sorry didn't know they charge for the download. You are right to stay away.
On the RealTek site try the driver listed under RTL8188CE. If it does not work you can actually go through all of the window drivers listed there. Only the correct one will install as it checks the device id.
You did not mention which driver you tried to install from the Toshiba site.
Did you install the Intel chipset driver a176 linked in his post? You should also install USB3.0 drivers for windows 7 which you find on the Toshiba site.
Last USB2.0-CRW: USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0129&REV_3960 is your RTS5129 Card Reader from RealTek. For drivers look here.
|
From the Toshiba website I tried the most recent Wi-Fi driver to no success.
I did install the chipset driver, so now i'm only missing my Network Controller, USB Controller, and my USB2.0-CRW. I'm currently working on the RealTek driver, I will keep you updated. Thank you for your assistance.
EDIT: I got the driver for my network controller from the RealTek link you posted, I'm now working on the USB drivers. Thank you for your time by the way.
|
|
|
Ok, that also worked. So now I have every driver besides the USB2.0-CRW driver. The link you provided earlier didn't work, any ideas?
|
Hmm, did you choose the correct driver from the site I posted? Version number V6.2.9200.39052. Filesize 10450k. If you did I have no idea, sorry, as VID_0BDA is RealTek and PID_0129 is the RTS5129 Card Reader according to https://usb-ids.gowdy.us/read/UD/0bda.
|
I was running the wrong version, thank you for your help! Green Board complete, and ready for college
