I just replaced my 4 radiator fans with some Noctua NF-P14s redux-1200's and man they're quiet. 100% load and I can't hear them unless I sit still with no other noise in the room.

I have some questions regarding ordering parts from amazon about fulfillment by amazon.

So for example: http://imgur.com/CT6tPKY

I know only the first one is fully 100% responsible by amazon, but I do notice some products that say "sold by abc and fulfilled by Amazon". What do they mean by fulfilled by Amazon? The item is kept in Amazon's warehouse and ship by Amazon? So which of the ones in the imgur are fulfilled by Amazon?

Basically Amazon holds the seller's product in their warehouses and ships it for them. There are no sellers on your list that is fulfilled but the first one you're purchasing directly from Amazon while the others are third-party sellers.

So for 3rd party seller, everything from shipping to warranty are handled by them? Amazon only acts as a market and has no other responsibility regarding the customer or product?

Pretty much. But the seller has to uphold the policies of Amazon and what they posted.

Oh, I guess I just have to blindly trust the reviews regarding 3rd party seller then.

Thanks

On Amazon, you've got the standard return policy, which is usually 30 days (plus or minus based on the product).

The manufacturer warranty for a video card, which is usually 1-3 years, doesn't go through the seller. For that you just contact the manufacturer directly with an RMA claim.

That 2x performance is just hype

I'm looking at about 25% faster than 980 Ti for the 1080 but we'll have to wait til tuesday.

Thanks

I am actually looking to order a bunch of other stuff as well, so not sure how the return and RMA is handled with 3rd party seller and shipping, as not all components are warrantied with the manufacturer directly, and some components required it to be bought from official reseller, and amazon may/may not be one of them, so unsure if they go by amazon or by the name of the reseller listed on amazon.

I rather just purchase it from Amazon directly, their returns and policies are simple and quick. But I'm rather spoiled, I live not very far from a Newegg and Amazon fulfillment warehouse

If the product is something a long the line of DOA, then you return it to Amazon for a refund. Generally third-party sellers charge a shipping fee for returns more often then Amazon for obvious reasons.

yeah, if things are sold by Amazon directly then all are good. But some stuff are only available by 3rd party seller on amazon, and staying outside of the US doesnt help with product availability or shipping either. Basically the problem of either having very limited options directly from amazon or taking the risk and hassle of buying from 3rd party on amazon

Do you not have better alternatives in Singapore that you have to resort to buying from US warehouses?

not really. A lot of things like headphone, mech keyboard, controller, even GPUs, etc. are either not available here or very expensive, understandably due to tax, but there is further price mark up due to limited stock here.

Stupid three questions. I think I'm running into my computers limits with 8GB of RAM. Not sure what app is causing it but I seem to be constantly running out of memory and apps keep crashing. Going to diagnose more tomorrow.

1. I'm pretty sure I tried this before and stuff crashed but I can't have 2x4 and 2x8 in my computer at the same time right?

2. Same thing, it's a bad idea to have 2x4 and 2x4 from different brands running at different clocks?

3. Is there really any significant difference between the different memory modules? Not totally sure how much the jump is between 1600 and 1866 or what's the difference between CL9 and CL11, but not sure it matters either?

I'm looking at this

http://www.ncix.com/detail/kingston-hyperx-fury-memory-black-5e-95971.htm

or this

http://www.ncix.com/detail/g-skill-ripjawsx-f3-2133c11d-16gxl-16gb-2x8gb-bc-104837.htm

?

Thanks a bunch guys

They will still run in dual channel as long as you slot them correctly.

It will still work but the controller will downclock your speed to 1866 or whichever is lower. Obviously to minimize compatibility issues, best to get the same.

Timing really only matters in benchmarks to be honest, you probably wouldn't even notice it in your daily use. In my opinion being so critical of RAM only matters if you going for a beast machine.

And I feel your pain, I do a lot of post-production with Adobe Suite, run CAD and modeling programs along with many, many, many Chrome tabs(although I do suspend them when not in use). I typically use over 10GB of my 16GB, not sure how much I use at peak times.

Hey everyone, thanks for maintaining this wonderful thread.
I'm looking to upgrade to a 64-bit system. A part of me feels like a should buy a totally new computer, maybe a high end laptop, but on the other hand I think I have some decent parts in my desktop already.

+ Show Spoiler [Formatted questions] +
What is your current build?
Bought complete from Komplett, graphics card and storage upgraded since.
OS: Windows 8.1 upgraded from Vista. 32bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200, 2,33 GHz, 4MB (775 LGA socket)
Memory: 2x 2gb DDR2, 333MHz
Motherboard: Microstar MS-7519
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 200-series (don't remember actual number...) GPU clock 1080 MHz, Memory clock 1400 MHz, 2048 MB GDDR5
Storage: SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 232GB HD: Western Digital Green 1TB
PSU: Chieftec Smart Series ATX 550w
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 534
No idea about heatsink, but the parts list say: "Boxed w/ fan" so I guess stock?

What is your monitor's native resolution?
1680x1050 at 60Hz

Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade?
I want to make it a 64-bit system, so I guess that means motherboard, memory and processor updates, maybe PSU.
Main gaming goals are Dark souls and the witcher 3, as well as basically any newer game.
Will probably also be used for some chemistry stuff as well as composing (sibelius), but those run ok on the machine as is.
I'm looking more for semi-long term investment rather than making the games barely playable.
Basically, I want to be able to use the machine in a few years still with minimal other upgrades.

What is your budget?
Roughly around 5k Swedish crowns, ~600 USD. If it turns out I won't get anything worth investing in for it, I might go up.
Price hunting is something I'm quite OK at, it's more the "what do I need" stuff I need help with.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Sweden or northern europe.

I think it can be reduced to the following questions:
-What are some features I will want on a motherboard to make it last a few years?
-What processor do I want to couple it with?
Nothing is impossible, only some things for some people.

You'll want the latest USB in this case 3.1 I guess, otherwise it's all the same mostly. For processor get a Skylake for sure, 6600k should last you a long time and is very fast. I would replace your PSU considering the age of your system, I threw together a little upgrade that should be fine in all regards:

You will want to upgrade the GPU at a later date too depending on which R9 you actually have..
