Hey Guys, I have some issues with Sc2 after buying a new pc a few days ago.
The Problem: Starcraft freezes randomly. This can last 3 seconds up to 50 seconds which naturally drops me out of the game entirely. I can still move my cursor but I cant scroll or pick a unit I dont have already picked. Even opening the Taskmanager takes a looooong time. Starcraft also tells me that Im having quite a few resource bottlenecks in the bottom right corner of the screen. Im having 140 to 70 fraps though (Fraps is on 70 after activating Vsync)
My Specc: INTEL Core i5 3470K (4x3.2GHz)
8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC-1333
Asrock Z77 Pro3 Sockel 1155
Nvidia geforce gtx 660 2048 mb
1TB WD Caviar Blue (SATA3, 7200U/Min, 64MB)
24x LG GH24NS +/-RW SATA
500W BeQuiet System Power (80+)
Xigmatek Midgard 2
Running it on a fully upgraded Vista Home Premium SP2 64 Bit.
What I changed on my computer lately:
I activated Trim-Command and deactivated Defragmentation and Superfetch due to having an SSD.
My screen is using the DVI-Slot because the VGA-Slot didnt work for some reason.... Im using the adapter from my old screen for that.
What I tried to resolve the issue:
- Tried another game! CivV and Torchlight2 both work just fine. No freezes whatsoever.
- I changed the sound driver and updated the graphics card driver to the latest version.
- First i installed Sc2 by using the Game DVDs and placed it on my HDD. Since it didnt work out, I tried it a second time: Downloaded it entirely and placed it on the SSD. No change.
- I tried the Sc2 Repair-tool.
- I tried to load Sc2 by using the Sc2-Agent
- Erased the Sc2-Cachefolder
- I tried to shut down the Ingamesound altogether or reducing the sound input to a minimum level
- I changed the resolution and the graphic settings.
- Checked my GPUs and CPUs temperature. They are both fine.
Any ideas what could cause the issue and how to resolve it?

First STOP using VGA!
Use the digital way Display Port, HDMI, DVI

Two quick things:
Don't use adapters for monitors buy a proper cable with the correct connection, never really good to use adapters IMO.
Never use VGA please :/
Lots of people have experienced "freezing" in Starcraft 2 this could be the same problem.

Ok, i wont use VGA  .
Tried my old Screen. Didnt change anything. Putting my external harddrive off didnt help either :X. Im using DVI-I now and not DVI-H (might that be relevant? I dont think so but some input is appreciated anyways :D)
Also tried the unit preloader.
Now I did everything i could come up with. Nothing helped.
Its just ridiculous how bad this game is from a technical point of view. Not the first time Im having issues either. Cant download maps either. But I could resolve that by shutting of Windows firewall (despite Starcraft2 being already an exception).
Oh and did I mention that my old PC died while I was playing a 2vs2 ^.^?

Do you have the same problem when watching replays, campaign or playing against AIs?

Playing campaign or against AIs results in the same problems.
I didnt check replays though

Did you say you're running FRAPS the program or are you just saying "FPS" as in frames per second in the original post?
The thing that caught my eye in your system was definitely the terrible operating system you're running. Upgrade to windows 7 as soon as possible.
The only other thing I can think of at this time is maybe your power settings are perhaps incorrect but I have to rule that out since your other games work normally.
Have you tried changing your resolution to see if that perhaps stops the freezing?

I was talking about Frames per second.
Power settings are already set to high.
Resolution didnt change anything.
And I will have to bear with the terrible operating system a while longer cause I wanted to save a few bucks and bought a win7 at a shady place called softwareteufel.de . They never send you the actual software, just loads of fake email and hope that youre too lazy to write them a so called Widerspruchserklärung. Cant be done with E-mail so you have to do it with the good old mail service. Long story short, i wont receive Win7 anytime soon and it could take months till I get my money back^.^.
