I'm just wondering what sort of gains I get from preset changes and/or bit rate changes so I can know which way to move them Just to make sure, you don't notice stuttering when previewing on the capture pc? in general: Higher preset = less Lower preset = higher most people recommend going with veryfast. What kind of load is your CPU under? You could also play around with tweaks to your resolution and/or fps. (It's actually possible for a 540p stream to look better than a 720p.) edit: pretty sure bitrate changes won't effect recording to HDD

I think I'll test with all the presets and see, I was getting no unable to render warnings, so I was just under the impression that slower = better. Sorry for the double post, accidentally quoted myself instead of editing

more bitrate helps, twitch doesn't like you going over 3.5k but some viewers have trouble watching at that point (not sure which ones, because my adsl1 handled a pair of 3k streams fine on down)

I am looking for solution for my 1440p monitor. Is there any possibility to downscale my resolution to 1080p with OBS. The closest one that OBS gives me to 1080p is 960p, that is below 1080p, but I am not satisfied with picture not being crystal clear.. Any suggestions? It is very horrible on 720p ![]()

First: my net (speedtest) So I would think I could set the bitrate to at last 1500 or 2000 right? Well, if I do, I'm dropping frames like crazy and the stream is unwatchable. 500 bitrate is smooth, but obviously the quality is awful. Source is 1080p, downscalling for stream to 720p. CPU&GPU not even "maxed" during test stream, so I guess my wireless internet is just too bad?

So far my only idea is that my net is just not stable enough. Also configured OBS with the help of few of the fine articles here and there.

It is very horrible on 720p ![]() You need to watch the video at its native resolution. If you don't, it will appear bad and blurry no matter how good quality the video is - scaling, particularly upscaling, is not very good. 960p is just as clear as 1080p, but a 1080p window would be about 12.5% wider and taller. If you want to view them properly (native res) then on your 1440 screen, you can't fullscreen unless you have your GPU drivers set up to show you black borders on the top and bottom, and then both will look equally good but the 1080p bigger I think you can actually go into an OBS config file and set a downscale factor of 3/4 or ~1.33 to be available*, but the scaling wouldn't be as good as 2/3 (1.5) or 1/2 (2.0) which is why it's probably not a default option, and i don't think it would help your problem, unless your target audience is people who fullscreen on a 1080p and upscale your video because they don't know any better *This is somewhat awkward, 4/5 - 1.25x downscale (2048x1152) is a bit big for native 1080p screens which is the majority of stream watchers, while 3/4 (1.33333333334) might not be handled well with the decimal place on all scalers, and then you're back to 2/3 (1.5x) which has to have black borders or upscaling on a 1080p screen On April 27 2014 15:14 OsaX Nymloth wrote: Using twitch.tv, on my local preview all looks fine but when tuning in to my stream channel it looks stuttery. I had issues til i used google chrome for stream watching, then my video was back to 30 or 60fps, instead of for example stuttery ~15-30fps with 1/8'th second pauses all the time. If your stream preview works fine, then your stream should be fine AFAIK - especially if OBS does not show you any problems

If I set the bitrate to 1500 for example OBS is clearly telling me I have even over 70% dropped frapes. My CPU was not fully loaded even, so it seems like the problem is with my net. Just want to confirm that, or maybe there's something else I'm missing.

So in that case I assume that I have too high bitrate for them? But how do you lower bitrate to provide clean image? Can someone suggest me the settings? Computer: Maximus VI Hero # i5 4670k @ 4.5GHz # Dominator 2133 16GB # DirectCU II R9 290 # 840 EVO 500GB # WD Red 2TB # Corsair AX860i Internet: ![]() My current settings are: - Resolution downscaled from 1440p to 960p. - CBR quality 10 - Preset: ultrafast - Bitrate: 2500 Quality in Dota2: http://www.twitch.tv/nukec/b/523667965 Quality in COD4: http://www.twitch.tv/nukec/b/523635669 But for some reason other people gets "Loading..." forever. 720p is totally crap, quality wise, because it is downscaled too much (2x).. Anything else I should check?

As far as the "Loading..." forever problem, that happens to me from time to time when watching streams but refreshing the page always fixes it. I can't imagine it being anything on your end.

Ok Cyro thanks for explanation, I just downscaled it to 960p, quality is passable, but I have problems that other people cannot watch the stream since it just stucks on load. I can see it on dashboard with no problem, and when I check recorded video later everything works smoothly. As z0rz said, don't use ultrafast or superfast! There are massive, massive quality losses past Veryfast. In general you want to stick to Veryfast, maybe using Medium when you have CPU to spare, particularly for something like 720p@30fps on OC'd 4670k. I had the "Loading..." problem when i was trying to stream in certain ways, it wouldn't go away or work for anyone. It happened when i was using NVENC and using certain presets for it to stream. I think the blu-ray one worked - but that shouldn't be relevant if x264 encoding is selected. Make sure that Encoding --- Encoder: x264 is selected, Use CBR, Enable CBR padding, quality 10 (maybe adjust this when everything works in some cases) - bitrate ~1500-3500, audio bitrate 96-160 (it's inexpensive and noticable to go for the 160) but twitch won't like higher - then in Advanced, set Keyframe interval to 2 seconds as well as x264 preset to Veryfast. I see that the broadcast options tab now has an optimize button, which should fix stuff for you if anything else is broken. If all of that stuff is done it should probably work~

If I want to use a webcam how do I reposition it on the screen? I know you can center it or put it in a corner but how do you set a specific position? Thanks in advance!

Not sure what information you need from me. I dont do any overlays (yet) and the only things i have running are usually youtube (for music), league and obs so i dont think its a drain on my system (i dont lag from it) Let me know what you need and i can tell you. Im not super tech-y
