There is a bug with hotkeys where Ctrl/Shift/Alt don't work, but it's fixed in the next version. Also I added mouse button support as well -- *hopefully* I can get the new version out today.

SC_RainbowDash -- Hey! I updated my drivers and get the same problem, so I see the issue now! I'll hopefully have it fixed in the next version

Good to hear. Any word on a text overlay option? So I can easily add texts to my scenes?

Do you perhaps have a release date for the next version?

I can do 30 fps fine with FFSplit but it struggles with 60 fps and it's mainly due to my connection. Will OBS help this in any way?

Whether or not you can do 30fps or 60fps has nothing to do with your connection, what is your CPU?

Next version should be today, or early tomorrow. I fixed the issues with the avermedia card, and got it working again. Wow, directshow.. just. Wow. I very much hate directshow right now. No need to downgrade your drivers or anything, next version will fix this issue.

HelloSon - 60fps isn't usually so much a connection thing. Try the app, and see what kind of results you get.

With these specs:
i7 2600k @3.4 (I can OC at any point, if I need to) / GTX 570 / 16GB of Ram
I'm probably being more bottle necked by my maxcap of 2mbps up, right?
In any case, so as to not use too much bandwidth by myself, is 480p at 60FPS possible at or under 1000kbps? Well, I know it's possible, but do you think it looks nice? Or should I steam in 30FPS. Does it make things less.. ghosty?
This is my test of 480p/60fps/750kbps. Is it enjoyable quality wise? Disregard my terribad splitting. You can also mute if you want

You can definitely afford more than 750 kbps, you can definitely do 720p @ 60 fps @ 1500kbps

@GTR - Great guide, but if you're going to use my spreadsheet as a reference, would you mind linking directly to it as opposed to a screenshot of it?

There are multiple reasons I ask this, if you are curious why just pm me.

I'm referring to this link you have in your post:

Please change to the source spreadsheet that we update often:

Oh, I know I CAN do 720p at 60FPS / 1500kbps, but with Canadian internet being Canadian internet, I don't think I can realistically afford to drop ~650MB/h. Part of the reason I asked my question is because if I can stream at 750kbps over two hours versus 1500kbps for an hour, I'd rather do the former because of how limited Canadian internet is. :/ Did the video look okay? Was it watchable? :/ I can't really tell, since I always watch in 240-480p anyways (because bandwidth =_=) so I have no idea as to what looks good.

Just as a side-note: It's a good idea to use XSplit to check out at which bitrate you can realistically upload without lag and then using that number (minus whatever bitrate you want to use for audio) as the maximum bitrate in whatever streaming tool you really use. Maybe obs.Jim could implement that in OBS, as well.

is there any way to Crop in edit scene, or more customisation for your scene. I find that with only being able to add bitmap files im really limited to having to add SWF files as software captures and i can't re-crop the GOM player, it looks really unprofessional. If there is a fix please say.

Jim is planning to add SWF files in the future, it's a bit lower on the priority list right now, which you can view on the forums.

From your other post it looks like you're using GOM player to get around that and then capturing it for your stream? You can use 'Inner Window to remove the Windows borders and such from the window.

If you still need to crop it further, check off 'Sub Region' at the bottom of the source properties. Then you can select a specific region of the GOM player window, and moving the window will not affect the capture.

i7-3770k

My game runs when I do 60fps, it's just the stream spikes and I get some lag from b.net. I'm curious if OBS does something different for this area.

Thanks for the info on this program. It might be worth it if I want to stream on my secondary PC.

Uploaded 0.41 - SC_RainbowDash, try it out and let me know if your avermedia card is working properly now.

Also made the default installer version the 32bit version - the 64bit version is causing some people issues, so if you'd rather use the 64bit, download the binaries for now.. there's very little difference anyway. Will make a full option screen in the installer later for 32bit and 64bit, I just didn't want to delay the release by having to take an entire day trying to mess with custom installer stuff.

Whats the technical reason behind why Xsplit would cause my entire gaming session (2500k @ 4.0) to lurch at 15 FPS with a lot of stuttering.

But these free indie streamers do the job really smooth? Im using the same numbers. Anyone can feel free to be extremely technical. I don't need anything dumbed down.

Also I have seen presets like "Ultrafast, superfast, veryfast" being thrown around across most streamers like there is some sort of standard, but its very nebulous to me because no actual numbers are being presented in each tool, or I havent seen them anyway. What do these presets ACTUALLY mean? In quantitative values. I know what they represent, I don't know the specifics.

Xsplit does a lot of marshaling and memory operations since the core code is written in C but the interface is written in .NET and a lot of data has to be passed back and forth. You may be running into memory bandwidth (either system or GPU) issues. Additionally a lot of the plugins are flash based and flash has terrible performance.

Presets control how "hard" x264 will try to encode the scene. Slower presets means x264 will spend more time analyzing and making the most efficient decisions possible, but obviously this is at a cost of speed. For streaming purposes, you almost never want to go below veryfast unless you really have the CPU power to burn.

Alright good its not as complex as I was fearing.

Also I should have specified earlier that Xsplit will do something at 15 FPS where these streamers will let me walk away with FPS quadruple that.

The rest of the system was 1600 mhz RAM with a 7970 sitting on PCI-e 2.0, so I figure if anyone is having width issues, it shouldn't be me. To be honest I think the flash part is destroying my performance with Xsplit, but I'm not 100 percent on it.

As for the presets, I know they adjust the scanning intensity of the program. I deal with that in bitcoin mining often. But unlike bitcoin mining where I could tell you what the mathematical difference between scanning at intensity 8 versus intensity 9 and what they mean with the specific kernel thats being run, I haven't been able to track this information down for streaming.

Since all streamers seem to be using the same language to describe this, I am assuming there is a standard written somewhere about what these words mean (they probably are just pseudonyms for 1,2,3,4 and so forth). But I would hate to assume anything I don't have to.

Yeah I have experimented with what is called "veryfast" and below and thats when shit goes pear-shaped, but sometimes I set things to super versus very versus ultra versus default and I am having a really hard time ascertaining the difference between these without spending a lot of time really analyzing.
