This is actually true. With XSplit/DXTory I was getting 60-70 fps when streaming on low, 720p60.
Now I'm maxing the FPS cap (100FPS) all game long, when using OBS Capture instead of DXTory.
I don't know what the fuck you've done, but it sure is brilliant sir.
My specs at i5 3750k 3.4GHz (non overclocked yet).
8GB RAM

My point, which everybody seems to have missed, was at encoding performance. Sure, your GAME might be running faster, but very little can be done to make the encoded video any better. If you didnt have the CPU to encode @720p60 with Xsplit, you cant do it with OBS either. Game performance with screen capture is a whole other variable. People saying that they can suddenly encode at settings that they couldnt before need significant evidence for it to be considered anything but bullshit and/or placebo

OBS running better could free up their CPU some for encoding, so it is possible. I wouldn't think it to be so significant, but it's possible

just to say (dunno if its been mentioned and im not looking through all the posts to find out) .pngs will work in place of bmp's if people didn't know and thats a dealbreaker for them (with the transparency and all) so your stream can have all the overlays and stuff people use with xsplit.

Is it possible to stream BW in fullscreen with this? The only reason that I use xsplit is because I dont know how to stream fullscreen using other software and I would like to keep using my twitch platform

We're not behind, it's just that in America and Canada, the big cable/internet/phone providers have the average person convinced that what we have now is our limits and that bandwidth is limited, and so it costs money. Leading them having a stranglehold on the industry.
It's bullshit, and hopefully Google Fiber expanding to places will fix that.

obs.Jim - Reading this during my lunch break at work, and haven't had a chance to experiment. I read the forum post about how DXtory creates additional overhead by copying the game buffer from GPU to CPU. That being said what is your position on using DXtory with OBS, better as a source or better of with window capture?

amazingxkcd - Currently the best bet for broodwar is (I think) UScreenCapture. That's what someone told me -- would love it if someone else could verify that. I will also see about getting broodwar captured natively whenever we implement native fullscreen capture.
twoscomp - Some people get good results with DXtory, some people don't. Either I or r1ch (I think he was toying around with it a bit) at some point in the future attempt to create a fullscreen capture alternative for the application natively. As for using DXtory, it depends entirely on your system really.
It indeed does cause overhead because it goes GPU (game) -> CPU (dxtory) -> GPU (sreaming apps) -> CPU (stream output).. If I write an alternative, I'm going to use a shared texture on the GPU so it will basically skip the first two steps.

If a streaming program lowers my FPS to below 60 FPS. I can't encode at 60 FPS. If a streaming program does not lower my FPS to below 60, I at least have a shot at streaming at 60 FPS.
So if my game is running faster, chances are I have expanded possibilities for streaming.
I can give you significant evidence since Xsplit was pretty much broken for me across 3 generations of GPU's, but since its only my system I suppose it could be written off as anecdotal.

This piece of software is amazing and makes me really irritated I paid for Xsplit. Performance in game while streaming at 720p/60fps is about 10982349% better. Really great work, obs.Jim!!!

Messi - If you are using the 64bit version, try the 32bit version instead (which is now what the installer uses by default). You are still getting the error for d3dx10_43.dll? Or is it something else? If you get an error for dwmapi.dll, that means you're on XP, and unfortunately XP is unsupported due to the fact that microsoft withheld directx 10+ support from XP users. If you're getting a "swap chain" error when trying to stream, try using the "Disable Direct3D compatibility mode" in advanced settings.

I use Windows 7, and tried 32 bit version, but still gets d3dx10_43.dll error message. Do I have to save http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 this to some kind of folder that I am not sure of or should I just install in temp folder?

You can download it anywhere. All it does is update your directx version. After downloading, run it, then it will update your system. After it's complete, you can delete the file.
