Planetside 2 runs awfully, nothing you can do really. My system (OC'd i7 950, gtx580) had fps minimums in the 20-30 range with few settings up, it is CPU intensive but puts almost all load on one thread and seems to max out GPU sometimes too and cause massive sudden framerate drops.

IIRC TB was talking about how he was dipping below 30fps with a 3930k and 3-way SLI or whatever his rig is

The game's been optimized more since then, or at least it's been a lot smoother for me lately. Either way I can't even stream my browser longer than 1 minute at decent quality at this time, so something is definitely wrong.

I still can't record broodwar properly, set up everything as instructed and still getting the screen mostly black (only when recording), any idea?

I still get below 30fps minimums and lose a third of that framerate while capturing for streaming

Planetside 2 was never optimized since beta.

All they did was shit all over the details. Low became medium, medium became high.

This was all done even though all they had to do was look at the UI. If you disable the UI, your FPS go up by a lot.

Hello,

I built my new PC yesterday to finally stream SC2 without any laggs, but it still feels laggy, even if i have 200+ fps when streaming. Is there anything I can do?

i5-3570k @3.4 GHz
Radeon HD 7970
8GB Ram
~2 MB Upload

Everything looks fine and the FPS is great, but it still feels laggy for me.

Thanks.

Hey guys, I've been trying to stream Path of Exile, the problem is, when I begin streaming with OBS, I get nasty screen tearing across the upper region (only on my end, does not reflect on streams end). This problem ONLY happens with Path of Exile (yes v-sync is on, yes its on fullscreen windowed). I stream at 720p 60fps, the screen tearing issue doesn't come up when streaming diablo3, league of legends, or pretty much any other game. I've tried lowering settings to things like 30 fps 720p, 30 fps 480p, the screen tearing still persists (again it doesn't show on the stream/recording end, only for me) but its supper annoying and unplayable

is this a sign of bad settings on my end for this particular game? (though the other games also are high motion etc)

or is this simply a sign of me needing to finally overclock my i5?

edit: after messing around a little, using game capture as a source, (which allows me to use fullscreen normal), makes the screen tearing go away, however it causes the normal issue of blinking interface)

What bitrate are you using in OBS? Sounds like you're using too much of your upload. Or maybe you're experiencing microstuttering? There are like 20 different ways to interpret the word "lag" in this context. You need to include your OBS settings so we can help (and as a side rant, what's up with people NEVER including their resolution when posting specs? It's like saying you have a 300hp engine but not telling us whether it's in a car or a train.)

With what you've provided, I'd say lower your bitrate and try using window or game capture if you're currently using monitor capture.

Posting it up here in hopes that someone can help me out. I've made a short video showing my specs, obs options, and the problem I'm running into. The only thing I didn't show was the resolution I'm streaming at which is 1920x1080 with no downscale at 20fps. I've tried it with downscale set to 1280x720 too, same issue. I've also tried multiple bitrate and quality balance settings. My buffer size always matches my bitrate except in one test where I made it 2/1. At 5000 bitrate with certain settings, the video lags out completely rather than just dropping in quality. Other than that the problem is consistent. At about 1 minute the quality of the stream drops and never comes back. Any ideas?

Can anyone help with this, or are you as stumped as I am? I know it's already been said that I shouldn't try to stream with Planetside 2, but at this point I can't even stream my browser for longer than a minute before the quality goes to shit.. I was able to stream well with xsplit after using gunrun's guide, but I'd rather use obs.

If you're using comcast, you probably set your bitrate too high. Their "Powerboost" makes it so your upload speed looks great on speed tests, but you actually can't sustain it for long periods. Try halving your bitrate.

Yeah, most people will tell you that 5000kbps bitrate is a bit high anyway if you aren't partnered with Twitch.

Good call on the Comcast thing, R1CH. I always wondered why I was hitting 3500 in speed tests but couldn't go above 2000 with streaming software. I want my 3500

Hey everyone. So I've been meaning to get back into streaming for quite some time, and well, I'm gonna start streaming! However, I need some help and have some questions.

I noticed that during my test stream (deleted off Twitch), there was sound coming from different audio sources such as my microphone, even though I didn't set that up yet. Is that normal? How do I add in music from TuneIn or WMP?

Also what's the point of having one or multiple scene? Right now, I named my scene SC2, along with my Game Capture Source, so you can only see SC2 and nothing else. Is there a way to add it in so that when I Alt+Tab out to my desktop, SC2 will shrink into a little box like the TL streams?

Computer Specifications
Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.2Ghz @ 1.16V (CPU-Z + LinX)
Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H F14 BIOS
ASUS GTX 460 768MB @ 800/1950
Kingston HyperX DDR3 8GB @ DDR-1333
Corsair AX750
Crucial M4 128GB
Western Digital Black 1TB
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO
BenQ E2420HD

I have a 28/1 Internet Connection. The following result is due to Speedboost and QoS, which I need for VOIP and downloading purposes. Of course, I won't be downloading when I game or stream

I didn't have it set to 5000, I had it set to 2000 in that video and I still got the quality drop at 1 minute. The 5000 bitrate test I mentioned was only to see if raising it would help my situation any, because I've tried everything else that I know about. Bitrate can't be the issue because my quality on xsplit was much better than I have it set here. and this is supposed to be easier to run?

http://www.twitch.tv/rahsun86/b/356880975

This is streaming at 1000 bitrate, same thing happens, at 1 minute my stream goes to shit. No matter how much I lower the bitrate, same result, it just looks a little crappier before that point.

@geokilla-- OBS probably defaults to whatever mic is set to default in Windows, so if you have a mic plugged in and turned on, there's not much to setup (you can change some basic mic settings in OBS though). Also, if you want to add music, just listen to it on the PC you're streaming with . Nothing fancy is required-- it picks up whatever plays through your default playback device (i.e. headphones/speakers).

Everything looks good in your VOD and you say you aren't dropping frames, so I think you're good to go! If you do start to drop frames in the future, you can slightly decrease your video bitrate and/or lower audio bitrate to 96kbps. Also, what capture method are you using (monitor, window, game)? You may or may not want to disable Aero depending on that.

@Rah-- Weird. Just noticed you're using an older version of OBS though, so definitely update it and see if anything changes. The newer version has an auto-updater added! Have you checked your temps while streaming? Post some logs if you can, too (OBS -> Settings -> Open Log Folder).

What exactly does the "quality balance" does ?

Some people always say "go 10!" while some other seem to be streaming with a lower setting than 10.

Does 10 = best quality ? Does it have an impact on performance ? Bitrate ?

^It's some form of rate control i think, probably a translation of CRF like xsplit.

It can be useful at times but if it's too low you will just end up using much lower bitrate on average than you have set and have far lower average quality than you could have

30FPS = watcheable but it isn't what it looks like in game.
60FPS = Smoother transitions between frames from the eyes of a human, close to playing experience.

Anyone knows if Windows 8 can stream with OBS with the same performance as Windows 7?

Sorry man, here are more infos:

i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz (non OC)
Radeon HD 7870
8GB Ram
~2 MB Upload (speedtest.net)
1440x900 resolution.

OBS settings:
1500kb Upload
Quality 5
1440x900
30 FPS

It doesn't feel smooth when playing. Microstuttering is the right word for it i guess.

After updating my version I can now stream longer than 1 minute. Thanks for that tip, I overlooked something simple.

I'm going to try out some longer tests now, and I will update you with my logs if something messes up again. Thanks to whoever was helpful.

It´s even better than Windows 7 since W8 has some sort of new what-do-i-know-WDM stuff that allows for Monitor Capture to be as fast as Gamecapture.
