10 quality 3k/3k

What do you mean by FPS drops? It is expected for framerate to be consistently lower throughout the game with any form of streaming (from screen/game capturing, otherwise you dont have any information to stream)

I mean as fast as I start OBS and then start for example Starcraft 2. The FPS just drops like crazy and it get's pretty much unplayable. I don't really know what to do. I guess I don't got the best computer in the world but it's not THAT bad is it ?

Ah, sorry, forgot to mention CPU.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1035T - 2.6GHz, 6 cores
GPU: AMD Radeon 6670 - 3.7GB (can't remember company name)
RAM: 6GB

Sorry, but what do you mean by settings? Stream settings, or something else?
I'm on a bad netbook so if it's the stream settings I'll have to check tomorrow. Apologies for inconvenience.

Ah, that.
Resolution is 1920x1080, though at one point I did try the downscale feature to half (960x540).
Fps, I've tried tinkering with; I've had it on 15, 30 and 60, none of which worked. I think 30 is the best idea though.
By preset (sorry for noobiness again), do you mean the x264 thing? If so, I've tried medium, fast and veryfast, but I stick with medium. None of the above work, mind.
Bitrate, I've tried everything from 550 to 3000, and it didn't work. I tried the tests on the page and saw that 3200 was recommended/max which prompted me to go that high.
Quality meter thing, I've tried from 5 to 10, which doesn't fix anything.
Audio bitrate, well, I haven't used audio but it's 128 anyhow.
Everything else, I can't really remember. Sorry if I'm not really helpful with information, compared to everyone here I know nothing about computer hardware.

EDIT: Forgot to mention; I use a software capture, though I doubt it makes a difference.

Use game capture, just tested it and works fine. (I'd use firefox for quake live)

Dont use medium.

You are changing so many variables at the same time, you cant really say what will have worked or not. As a baseline go 960x540@30fps@veryfast and something like 2k bitrate

I'm trying to capture Minecraft.
Funnily enough, the vods themselves don't lag, but luckily a part is recorded where I tried to look at the stream. Skip to 1:20 and you'll see the lag.

Got OBS a couple of days ago and it works great~

I had one problem I was hoping someone here could help me with though-

All my sound (e.g. game audio, music, internet browsing/Youtube audio) goes through my speakers (the default audio device), but I set my Mumble audio to go through my headset (2nd HD Audio Output) so that I hear my friends' voices distinctly from other sounds.

After watching my recordings I've realized that it only picks up the sound from whatever output is set as default, so I hear my my game's audio, my music, etc. in my stream, but not my friends' voices (I do hear my own though, since OBS has its own mic system and my push to talk button for OBS is the same as my Mumble's). I set my headset (2nd HD Audio Output) as default so that all sounds now go through them, and, yep, my friends' voices appeared on the stream.

I do still strongly prefer to have my friends' voices separated from the other sounds though, so I wouldn't want to have all my sounds come through the same output just for my stream.

So I'm wondering, is there a way that my stream can record both outputs- my speakers and my headset? I keep seeing this VAC thing come up when I try to Google search a solution (which didn't yield very helpful results in all)... but that program seems a little complicated. If VAC would be the solution to my problem, would anyone know any useful guides that maybe also simplifies things a bit for dummies like me?

If it's not VAC then I would really appreciate any other solutions/suggestions that any of you here can give me.

Thanks!

Cyro's general response to that is that capturing and streaming performance across all of the streaming tools is generally the same. The justification to this is that the x264 encoding everyone uses to bring everything into H264 is the same across the board.

But after trying a lot of streamers, some will just have issues. Xsplit for instance dropped everything to a crawl because the way it did the flash preview was clearly not working correctly where FFsplit was the first program that worked correctly for me (FMLE had a similar issue but the performance wasnt even great when running from command line), something a lot of us on TL noticed.

So the "performance" of each streamer might be the same but there is definitely more going on under the hood. It's just a "working or not" difference at this point. For me OBS and FFSplit work about as expected. Generally I always use the same settings but not every streamer even have the same options. So maybe Im just being guardrailed into success by these two programs.

Either way, these threads are generally not to be used as fan clubs. Though at the same time OBS.jim is a TL member so passing him public praise shouldnt be denied, that'd be a dick move.
