Hello, i'm in the market for a new chair, i've got about £220 budget. I've had some back problems in the past with previous cheaper chairs and really want a good chair..

I've heard of dxracer but i havent looked at anything else, can someone give me some good recommendations for maximum £220?

Was looking at maybe something like this? :

When you say back problems, do you mean anything serious? For serious back problems you may want to consider seeing a doctor / getting a standing desk.

No, no, nothing serious, just getting some pain in the back, it may just be my posture, after 4+ hours in the chair my back starts to ache...

Save some money and get an Aeron or steelcase or something in that range. 500-1000 USD is extremely little to pay for something that you use for hours a day for many years

I have been very happy with my IKEA Markus. It fits your budget easily and I do know that TotalBiscuit was very happy about his one before he moved to the US and ended up getting his DX Racer chair. (Currently in a bit of a rush so not willing to go and find a source for that but you can tweet him :p)

Edit: If you for some reason are not using the arm rests then I recommend that you still mount them on the chair but then upside down; it looks completly silly but else the cloth can start to tear a bit around where the arm rest normally is connected to the chair.

Personally I don't use the arm rests because I have a very deep desk where my arms rest on. I realize that this is worded quite strange, if you want me to take a photograph to explain it then say so.

Edit 2: I have been using this chair for 3 years now without complaints, barring that very minor cosmetic complaint. There are no tears in the fabric of the seat itself. The back being done with a double black net instead of a solid back rest is very nice: it still gives you the support you want from a backrest but because it is basically 'hollow' you have no issues with sweat during hot summers.

I'd suggest changing EVERYTHING ELSE (move computer, change monitor tilt, etc) as well.

it's something you can do right away (for free) and you can get used to the habit (like you're doing now) of being aware of ergonomics vs. just chair. (i.e. once you change chair, you'll get temporary relief but body will just get used to it -> bad posture again, and so on.)

hope you feel better soon

yeah, if you think about it, regarding actual chair selection, you would need to adjust the other stuff too in order to know which chair best fits your body and environment.

(i.e. you can't tell from a picture if the armrest will be the proper height to support your elbow to desk and keyboard/mouse <- important unless you want to exchange back pain for wrist pain :o)

if it doesn't fit, you'll just end up having back relief sometimes when you rest properly against the chair, but then shift back and forth when you are gaming, thus going back to square 1.5.

I'm lucky to have a nice chair but still need to constantly remind myself to "sit properly".

also, TAKE BREAKS OFTEN!! /nagging ;D

that cracking sound when the discs in your back slip and you are in real pain.

then your heart when you realize that you knew better and it's too late now. :O

not to be overdramatic, but prevention is the best medicine (as others alluded to previously by asking how serious your pain is.)

a break can be as simple as standing up and stretching while you watch the replay in-between games (quasi-break), you can improve your BO at the same time

Hi there risky!
I am presuming you are British by the fact your budget is in pounds. In our household we have 2 of these chairs.

http://www.wayfair.co.uk/Alphason-Portland-Ergonomic-Chair-in-Black-AOC7301-M-ALP1168.html?refid=GBUK321-ALP1168

One for myself and our home office and I find them brilliant are well within your price range.

As an aside to this. I have an ikea markus at university but I definitely prefer the alphason that I have at home as I feel that it gives me a bit more back support and the adjustable arm rests allow you to get a much comfier position in your seat.

I hope this helps. Best of luck in your endeavours!

I would certainly recommend that you try this too. Having your mouse and keyboard in a good place, as well as having the proper height arm rests/removing them altogether. Also having your monitor at a good eye level amongst other things. I know I have mine at uni on a big pile of books to get it to a good height.

Maybe try one of the chairs they use in orchestras that force the instrument players to have better posture.
