Make sure your microphone is turned up in the Windows sound settings.

It is turned up fairly high, I dont' want to turn it up any higher because then I'd be too loud in skype which I use while i stream. and the sounds that my pc gets is too loud in comparison to me

You could try turning down stereo mix so that the computer sounds are not as loud in comparison to your microphone.
Aside from that I'm not too sure.
edit: after playing with it my self, I see what you mean. At 100% microphone I am dramatically quieter than I was before the newest update.
I'll see what's up.
edit 2: scratch what I said before, audio volume is consistent from previous versions to the most recent version. incorrect settings on my end resulted in anomalous testing results. my apologies.

I've been using FFSplit for awhile now and it's been great, but I've recently switched ISP's and I'm having a bit of trouble finding my optimal settings. What do you guys think would be best for this setup? I stream in 720p.
i5 2500k (not OC'd) HD 6850 4GB RAM

do 4000 bitrate, 256 stereo, and you can try streaming in 1080p

You also have a stock clocked 2500k which isnt bad but, I wouldnt recommend doing 1080p on it unless you plan on playing on low. Try 720p 60fps. set your bitrate to 1500.

I've been using around 2500kb/s, 30fps, 192 stereo and it's been reasonably ok. I guess the default preset is ok?

I've been using FFsplit for a few weeks and I've been noticing an extreme performance hit when I start streaming. Aero's off, and I'm streaming at 1080p/30fps on veryfast with 2200kbps. I could (well, should) do better, but I wanted to test with my friend who uses an OC'd 2500k. On low settings, I pull in around 420 fps. Pretty solid. However, when I start streaming, I plummet to 90ish, and that's at the start of the game so it likely drops more when there's more than 12 workers on the field. Plus, I prefer playing on medium, where I get 40-60 at the beginning of the game.
I have a 3930k overclocked to 4.7GHz with a 1GB GTX460 and 8GB of RAM. Surely I should be seeing better numbers? It seems like people like Destiny (pre-capture card) have some ungodly preset (there's never pixelation) with decent fps. Are there common things that people screw up, or incompatibilities that can cause a drop in fps? I don't usually go above 60% cpu usage while playing/streaming, either, and it's definitely running @ 4.7. Am I just expecting too much? Keep in mind I'm simply looking at in-game fps, as I can't handle streaming flawlessly with the internet I have.
Edit - forgot to mention that I use the FFSplit overlay with a webcam and the screen capture set to high quality.

If i stream with ffsplit and use dxtory to capture the screen can i still add overlays to my stream ?

Try a preset like Default. Veryfast is extremely hard on your CPU.
Even with a processor running at 4.7ghz, video encoding at 1080p is going to devour your CPU. It's doable, obviously, but no matter how fast your processor is, you're going to experience a drop in performance when streaming.

It isn't because it is second fastest preset in x264. Only ultrafast is even lighter on CPU. If someones has problems with streaming fps I'd suggest lower video resolution.

I guess I'm more curious as to why this is. I just like to play around with settings before I move and get better internet, and I'm trying to figure out how some people can get these outrageously good-looking streams. Surely 20 fps while streaming is unheard of with a 3930k? I got the cpu from a friend for something like $200, so it's not a big deal if I can never get it working as well as others, but I just don't know what makes others' set-up better than my own. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Technically superfast is also lighter on your CPU, no?
Anyways, I might have been over exaggerating the cpu demands of veryfast.
Just to test I opened sc2 and set everything to medium and started recording at 1080p/30fps/default preset and was getting just over 100 FPS at the start of a game. This is on an AMD 1090T running at 4.0ghz, which is a dramatically inferior chip to your I7.
So I'm not too sure, actually. Seems like there could be something going on on your end.

How can i use overlays when i am streaming with dxtory ? Is there any chance for it ?

Technically superfast is also lighter on your CPU, no? Yes, of course. i forgot that one. They are in order from speediest to slowest (dunno what 'default' means). From my experience ultrafast is crappy looking as it turns everything off in encoding. So anything but that one. If cpu still stuggles with superfast then I'd lower resolution.

Hi, I'm trying to get into streaming, but my internet/computer isn't too good.

Could anyone help me out? I want to stream in the highest quality possible. If anyone needs any more info, just ask. I'm pretty new to the whole streaming thing. If it matters, I'll be streaming Dota 2 on 1280x720 resolution.

It may be too slow for streaming in general.

I've streamed HD on Xsplit before and it was decently smooth. What would my settings be if I wanted to stream 612p or 480p?
