I have a Radeon 4870. In Catalyst Control Center (CCC), I was experimenting with overclocking, and, in the control center, I set it to overclock way too much. This caused my computer to crash, displaying a blue screen, with the message "core dump", IIRC.
So, I shut my computer off, turn it back on, and I realize that since CCC automatically opens upon startup, it causes my computer to crash every time I restart. To remedy this, I go into Safe Mode and use CCleaner to disable CCC upon startup. I then uninstall CCC and reinstall in hopes that it'll reset the overclock values I previously set in CCC.
However, this does not happen. Upon reinstalling CCC, my computer proceeds to crash again.
So, I think my problem is this: How do I uninstall CCC AND make sure that all the values I set are set back to default when I reinstall it? I did some googling, and there's a "restore default values" option WITHIN CCC, but since I can't open CCC without it crashing my computer, I don't have that method as an option of restoring default values.
The profiles should be in something like C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\ATI\ depending on your install. You have to enable hidden files to be shown in the explorer to access the folder AppData.
There's always the option to regedit ( you'd have to figure out which ones to delete if it's AMD+ATI mix instead of Intel/ATI or Intel/Nvidia as you may end up deleting random AMD chipsets by accident ) Make sure you uninstall+delete CCC+ find all remaining AMD/ATI in C:drive and you should be able to clean install CCC like this. Also restart after uninstall
Does work against programs that have free trials though and some other programs.
Ah, okay. I did google that there was a profiles file somewhere in AppData, but I was careless and looked in slightly the wrong place so I didn't find it, but now I see it thanks to the specificity of the file path grs gave. If I just delete the "Profiles" file, will that effectively reset my CCC settings?
I considered editing the registry but deemed it too risky, too much a shot in the dark, but thanks for the suggestion anyway

Yes, you can rename or delete the Profiles.xml in there, which should reset your settings.
EDIT: If that does not help, the more drastic measure is to completely uninstall the driver, uninstall the whole devie from your device manager, install it again with standard windows drivers and then do a fresh install of the ATI drivers.
