So have this wireless Logitech Keyboard and while playing in a tournament with friends I might have raged and slammed my fist into the keyboard. The J button comes flying off and now I cant put it back.

The keys are basically like the ones on a laptop.. and now its this rubber stick thingy..

It works, but.. it's not ideal. Anyone know if there's a way to put it back?

Cheers

Uhm, if thingies that keep the key attached to the plate aren't broken(or the ridges on the key itself for that matter), the pushing the key onto them until you hear a clicking sound should fix the problem. IF they're broken, I'm afraid my advice won't work.

The thingies on the keyboard are intact, the ridges on the key itself.. are not. :/ Thx anyway!

At least there aren't any crucial hotkeys that I can think of that involve J....though if there were you could always change them in the hotkey customization section.

Edit:

This could be a good excuse for you to get a better keyboard since wireless and non-mechanical are pretty rough to play with (I just bought a mechanical keyboard and I can never see myself going back to normal rubber dome keyboards).

call logitech and say it fell off and ask for a replacement for the button (not the keyboard...). this is worth the try and will not cost them a lot and keep you as a happy customer.

I can't really see if it's alright but if what you said is true then it's broken for sure. If you can find a spare laptop keyboard you can pull a key out and replace the hinges good luck btw haha

Think of how Day9 would feel about this! It's almost as if you killed him! TT

as for fixing the key, i would take a key you don't use much, such as numlock, and pop it off. put it where the j key is supposed to go. it might look stupid, but it's better than having to press the rubber dome thing(which you could press for numlock since it's hardly ever used most likely).

if you do opt for another keyboard, get a Razer Blackwidow :D

It's like the people who say PS/2 is so much better than USB because there is roughly 0.000002 seconds less latency. Unless your match is extremely high level, and you're so damned even that it's like you're fighting a bot that just mimics everything you do, wireless non-mechanical keyboards and wired mechanical keyboards will result in the same playing experience.

The same sort of thing happened to my laptop keyboard, where I somehow pushed my Math past-papers up towards my screen and it ripped off the / and ; keys. Just try to fiddle it back on, it's quite hard though. Make sure you have decently-long fingernails and good lighting, then get to work pinching the little stilt-legs on the back of the key, to make them perk up, then try sliding them back in underneath the metal grooves.

Maybe this could help? http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/
If you still have the two plastic clip thingys you should be able to put it back on.

Thx for all the advice, ripping out another key didn't work, lets just leave it at that. I'm thinking of super glue and a hammer.

I dont want to get a mechanical keyboard A) they sound to much B) I love my keyboard, I'll just have to live with it.

Cheers!

It's a scissor switch as far as I can tell. I doubt it's broken. unless you can plainly see broken plastic somewhere.

It's an easy fix. There should be two components and they should currently be one in the other (Think lowercase o inside an uppercase O).. Lift the inner component up, and it should open up like an X. there should be a portion on the inner key that will latch onto the on the keyboard, all you gotta do is slip that portion under the latch on the keyboard and press down.

for example, you see how it opens like an X, pull the innermost component downward, and it should open up like this, then then orient the key correctly and find where one side of the scissor switch latches onto the keyboard ( looks like this ㅋon the keyboard). Swoop the key sideways to latch onto the keyboard component and when you feel a tug, force the key downwards.

I've fixed a few of these on my laptops over time. (actually one yesterday when I accidentally took off the esc key of a laptop I was taking apart to reset cmos).

Thats too bad, i've never had one break with the laptops i've owned. But all of my logitech products have broken in some form or another so it does not surprise me. You can probably find another switch mechanism online though. I'm sure if you called logitech enough times they would send it haha. Logitech has great customer support, with my experience you can basically send them a cord and they will replace your product.

This is how I've fixed keys on my keyboard. Sorry to hear you broke it

That happens when you try to hit the J key so forcefully with your fist though

I hear duct tape fixes everything. Lawl. But to be honest it looks unfixable and you might just want to buy a new one.

Thats not why yhou get a Mech keyboard its for the feal of it and it does effect typing and playing, don't say stuff you don't know.

its all personal preference, no reason to get all uppity about your mechanical keyboard preference. As for me I like Mechanical Keyboards for typing but I have come so accustomed to my laptop that playing games on a mechanical Keyboard feels tedious and harder than it should be, to play on while typing feels natural and comfortable. and again most bw players use a generic QSENN DT-35 which is a generic cheap membrane keyboard, so no use in telling people to not "say stuff you don't know" when its opinion.

as for the OP I feel your pain this ] <---- is just a plain dome membrane for me and it drives me crazy hahaha I know you can buy replacement keys for your keyboard if you look around but as for me the key is hardly used other than to make cutesy faces ;] either that or Id try to call logitech like someone else suggested and even if they don't just send you a replacement key you may be able to actually buy one through them. gl with your endeavors :3 if nothing more get creative its not like you can hurt it anymore than you already have

Also I hope you learned your lesson RAGING IS EXPENSIVE

Its probably just the glue holding it on. don't worry just get some clear tape and do it over the keystroke and the ones around it.

That happened to my H key once before, when it broke off and I couldn't snap it back on.

Had to send it back to Toshiba-land (wherever the manufacturer is) to have it fixed. It sucked

It may or may not have occurred during that tournament which you speak of. Sshh!

Anyhoo.. Status update: I tried to put the X thingie in first and then snapping on the J Key. The result is that I now have no X thingie. I'll call support tomorrow.

I have this Logitech mouse which I have raged on for years, just open it up and use a screw driver and any problem should be fixx'd, screw drivers apparently does not work on keyboards. Little did I know..

Sad Panda y man, its expensive as hell.. I could tell you the story about the HDD that wouldn't come loose.. but that's kinda off topic.

Cheers!

Did the same thing as you man, also with the same type of annoying keys. Took me almost an hour to figure how to get it back. The thing was that in mine the plastic had bent itself covering the slot where the scissors connected and it looked just like nothing was wrong with it. When i had them fixed you had to kinda slide the button into the metal holders then press it down.

Well you probly can't put it back you see so my advice is buy a new comfortable cheap keyboard and play like u never played before.
And PS:dont use those scissor/laptop style keyboards cus they break easily
